Wednesday’s TPS Report: Banana Republic’s Silk Ruffle Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
We like this silk dress from Banana Republic for today's TPS. The ruffles are nice additions without being ostentatious, and everything — the jewel neckline, the cap sleeves, the knee-length hem — is appropriately ladylike yet professional. Available in ash (shown) and lavender for $130 at Banana Republic. Women: Silk ruffle dress – Wood ash
* Incidentally, if you have time, check out the sale at BR's sister site, Piperlime — lots of great brands available for great prices in lucky sizes.

This is gorgeous… but 100% silk at the office?
Maybe it’s time for a poll on this – what’s the limit on silky/chiffony fabrics for work? I was wondering the same thing. Although this dress doesn’t look shiny in the picture, I’ve seen BR silky things in person and I suspect this would be a bit boudoir-inspired-feeling. Agree with J that it’s a great look, though (if unforgiving to underwear choice!)
I think I would draw the line at trim (a ruffle or pleat detail on a cardigan, the edge of a skirt…), and never a sheer fabric with nothing behind it. Possibly a fuller silk skirt balanced with heavier knits (sweater set or turtleneck).
