Oh no. This style makes everyone look pregnant except the skinniest of women.
God, the 80s are back. Everything back then was big and blousy and hid your shape. Not actually a very feminine look.
Careful with this style of sleeve at work (or anywhere, really) – with most of the tops I’ve tried on, you can’t move your arms too much without risking giving everyone around you a nice view of the side of your bra :(
To work? Seriously? This looks like something a 21-year-old or desperate suburbanite would wear to a bar.
i don’t agree that this is particularly work appropriate: neckline is too low, and those swishy sleeves aren’t business-y. Maybe for a faux social work event. Personally, I’d also want a shirt like this to work under a blazer, and b/c of the sleeves this one won’t.
My real issue is not the cut (unflattering) or sleeves (risky) but the low neckline–it’s hard to pull off without a shell or tank underneath.
Ew. This looks like a “bar top” I wore with jeans in college…in 2001.
Doesn’t this involve too much, um, flapping? I prefer not to be undone by fabric.
LPC: flapping. Hilarious. And well put. I love flappy clothes, but not at work.
I just don’t think it’s a professional look. Besides, with sleeves like that, it won’t work well with a cardigan or blazer, and (sadly) it’s almost that time of year.
This one is a rare miss. Top is too billowy and I’m not a fan of the waist. Skip this one.

Ok, I’m thoroughly relieved that I’m not the only one thinking that this top is SO inappropriate for work! I don’t think it looks “elegant” or “graceful” at all.
I would wear this on a date with tight jeans. With flowy pants, I’d just look FAT, but with tight jeans it would give some balance.

@lawdiva, you are so right. And no woman who works at a law firm wants people (read: old coot partners) even having remote thoughts about her being pregnant unless she actually IS pregnant.
This could be passable (with a camisole underneath) with black pants in a more casual setting. Having said that, this particular top is not the most flattering. There are similar purple silk tops that would be more flattering, with a different sheen, plainer sleeves and a more sophisticated drape and fabric.
I don’t mean to pile on! But I can’t always figure this site out – sometimes your rules are SO corporate-conservative, almost back to the 1980’s dress for success … and then sometimes this type of outfit (or the tote of a few days ago) comes out.
Sharon – I feel the same way, sometimes. Different strokes for different folks and all, but…. this is okay, but peep-toe shoes are a TERRIBLE OFFENSE AGAINST THE CORPORATE CONSERVATIVE DRESS CODE? I guess we all just have to agree to disagree sometimes!
Eew! It looks like a negligee! I am so over the empire waist/baby doll sillouete. I also do not like the underwear as work wear trend. Yuck.
This is not for work, unless you have a back-room filing job in an all-female environment. This is definitely a year when the focus is on the bustline, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but this number is too flimsy and too bright all at once.
I think it’s elegant on the model, but couldn’t personally pull it off – too busty. I like C’s suggestion of flowy black pants, too.
