The below content is about the 2015 Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale.

Happy almost-Memorial Day, you guys: Nordstrom's Half Yearly sale has started. There are a ton of great workwear pieces in there, including brands like:

Some particular pieces that caught my eye…

Finally:

  • Veronica Beard Print A-Line Skirt – I'm still drooling over the dress from Monday, so I was intrigued to see a bunch of Veronica Beard pieces in the sale. This is my favorite — a black and white midi skirt. It was $450, but is now on sale for $270 (limited sizes, alas).
  • L'AGENCE Contrast Panel Pleated Crepe Dress – This crepe dress looks lovely, and — to me at least — walks that delicate line between feminine and floaty, and professional. It was $525, but is now marked to $315.
  • Max Mara ‘Ottavo' Jersey Sheath Dress – Max Mara continues to blow me away with their simple, classic sheath dresses. This gorgeous one, with an almost stripey print, is marked 40% off — was $765, now $458.
  • Armani Collezioni Fitted Piqué Jersey Jacket – This fitted pique jersey looks perfect for summer — classic, wear it with everything. It was $1,345, but is now marked to $575.

I'll round up bags and shoes later (probably tomorrow) — but I will quickly note that there are a lot of Stuart Weitzman and SJP heels in the sale. Which favorites will you be looking for, ladies?

  • Ann Taylor – Suiting Event – 30% off suiting + 30% off tops
  • Nordstrom – Cashmere on sale; AllSaints, Free People, Nike, Tory Burch, and Vince up to 60%; beauty deals up to 25% off

  1. I looked at all the things available in plus sizes and just don’t seem to like anything. I actually really need some new clothes, both for work and casual, but I’m just not excited by anything I’ve seen lately.

The one thing I like from this list is the Vince Camuto contrast yoke ombre dress. I don’t know why everything else feels so boring to me lately. Not just Kat’s picks but everything I’ve seen while trying to shop!

    1. I too am disappointed by the lack of offerings in petite sizes. Occasionally, I can get away with a regular size jacket (stretch with 3/4 sleeves) or sheath or short sleeved dress, but that’s rare. Nordstroms, if you’re listening, your petite offerings need to be enhanced. I’m always so unhappy I can’t buy Classiques Entier offerings that are gorgeous.

  2. Kat/Kate/Tech Team – I’ve noticed that there wasn’t a link to the next post when I was on the “Previously, on…” post. It doesn’t happen every time but I noticed it yesterday before the Coffee Break post and twice just now. I’ve clicked on the Previously, on… post 3 times now and the link only showed up once.

Also, my name seems to not be auto-populating today. Not a big deal, just wanted to let you know.

    1. My name has not been autopopulating for about a week, so I keep coming up “Anonymous”.

  3. Ugh. So I just heard a colleague describing her job to a summer associate as exciting, stimulating, and challenging. We are litigation associates and have reached the “fun” stage where we are drafting motions, taking depositions, second chairing at trial. But if someone were to ask me I would probably just describe the job as boring, stressful, and extra stressful. Even when a case is interesting, I hate all the wasted time that goes into silly lawyer things that lawyers are supposed to care about like double checking bluebook formatting (because no one can find the case if I italicize the wrong comma!), or arguing about whether both parts of a hyphenated word should be capitalized in a title, etc. Or rushing to meet an arbitrary deadline set by a partner three weeks in advance of the actual deadline!

…I think I could handle this job if it was a 40 hour per week job. But holy goodness it’s hard to spend all your waking life working on this stuff. Please someone out there tell me your story of hating biglaw and then finding something better. I need some hope.

    1. (a) That’s what you do for summer associates or interns – you puff up the excitement of the job. (b) If you’re that miserable, get out. And (c), Yes, there are actually some of us that enjoy this work. (Ok, not necessarily the blue-booking, but I do love the strategy and challenge associated with litigation.)

      1. I’m not in biglaw, but do document review for the big firms. I actually like bluebooking. I’m probably a little nuts.

    2. Yeah, everyone lies to summer associates about how great the job is. I enjoy the work I do, but I don’t enjoy the stress, arbitrary deadlines, etc. but I gloss over that stuff with summers because they’re going to take the job anyway and they’ll figure it out on their own soon enough.
