very low pump with Mary Jane strap and slingback heel; it is in a leopard print

Every time I post a heel, readers tell me they aren’t wearing them anymore—but if you are, Naturalizer has some really great options right now, including a take on the high-vamp trend. If your feet revolt against any real height, though, these low “pumps” look lovely. The block heel looks comfortably walkable, and as someone with narrow ankles, I always appreciate an ankle strap.

The pictured shoes are $135 at Naturalizer in three different colors, sizes 5-12; you can also find them at Nordstrom.

(ZOMG: I haven't seen a peep-toe heel in a loooong time.)

  1. has anyone found a good at-home dye for eyebrows? i feel like the godfrey and just for men dye only lasts a few days on me.

    1. I have mine done at the salon along with my hair and it still only lasts a week or to. I think eyebrows are just resistant to color.

    2. I got them professionally done for a hot minute and stopped because it just doesn’t last long enough to make it worthwhile!

  2. GUYS — this job market is killing me. I left a job in June because it had drifted so far from the original job description. I’m an attorney who works in tech. It’s brutal! I’m getting interviews here and there, but…it’s HARD. I’m so bored and restless and applying to yet another black hole job posting seems so futile. How do I get out there and actually network?!? HALP.

    1. Not law so forgive me if this is totally not applicable, but is it feasible to do contract-based work or be of counsel? I’m in content marketing and was able to leverage my network to get writing and consulting freelance work. It ended up building my portfolio in some amazing ways and gave me things to talk about in interviews. It wasn’t the goal, but I made some really great connections. One of those connections helped me in where I currently work. And I was so busy that it kept me from stewing.

I know you didn’t ask, but don’t be shy about using AI to your advantage. I wish I had done that sooner. I got a lot more interviews after doing ATS scans and analysis on each resume.

  3. Where are bu$ty running and jumping athletes buying sports br@s these days? Which brands do you like? I’m a muscular 34D/DD, so I don’t have a lot of fullness in my actual chest, it’s all b00bs.

I usually wear two br@s, and I’ve been doing well with my Nike compression-style. I can’t find this same style anymore, but I like it because it has quite a bit of front coverage. I’m finding that a lot options so far don’t come up high enough on my chest, so I feel like I’m bouncing out it vs. just bouncing, if that makes sense.

I’m thinking I might need a compression option layered with a high-neck option?

    1. How did you determine your size? You’re listing one of the most commonly misassigned sizes. Use the abrathatfits calculator.

If it turns out you’re actually like a 28F, I shop the high impact section at Bravissimo. You sound like you might be looking for one of the Panache higher coverage bras. I also ran a marathon in a Brooks running bra, but IIRC, they shrank their sizing range about a year ago, so I’m not sure that they’re still offering sizes that will work for you. I am literally wearing it right now, and it’s at least 4 years old, so consider this a strong endorsement of their products if they come in your size.

        1. Oh, and there’s a knock-off brand on the river site called Syrokan. Very, very similar for a fraction of the price.

      1. Me too (34F)! I’ve tried a lot of options, and these are by far my favorite. The hooks in the back save me from having to do yoga to extricate myself from them.

    2. My daughter and friend of this shape swear by Anita. I think there is a recent Wirecutter article on just this. Daughter has also liked Athleta and the Rabbit line that we found at a running store.

    3. Fellow 34D/DD here. I love my underarmor bras with molded cups. I heard good things about lululemon, but they didn’t fit me well when I I tried on in store.

      When I was a 34 G/H, I loved SheFit

      1. I’m a 34F and wear SheFit for things like running. If you are between sizes, chose the larger one – they are highly adjustable and the larger size will have more coverage.

    4. Shock absorber bras, the maximum impact ones. I get mine from Bravissimo, but I believe Champion bought them, so probably easier to find.

    5. The Curvy Kate Everymove sports bra has solved this problem for me. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough coverage even after I sized up- it doesn’t provide the kind of total front coverage you’re looking for, but I have never felt like I was bouncing out of it- I don’t have to think about my chest bouncing at all. I am totally comfortable running with just the Everymove on. No other sports bra I’ve tried has been supportive and compressive enough for running.

I wear a US 30I in their normal bras and prefer the fit one cup size up for the sports bra, but the sports bra in my normal size is perfectly fine for running and I still use it. The support on the bra one cup size up is adequate for running. It definitely quadboobs me if I’m wearing a tank top but it’s such an improvement over everything else I’ve tried that I’ll take it.

  4. Is $100 an insultingly low cash gift for a wedding? I’m attending solo. The wedding requires at least one overnight (due to distance) and one day off work (wedding is on a weeknight), if any of that matters.

    1. I think it depends on where you are in life? That’s probably what I would have given when I was new to the workforce, as it was already more than I could afford (especially in those years where everyone seemed to be getting married at the same time)! That was 20 years ago now though, so it might be a bit light now. But if you have to travel and take time away from work, the bride and groom should be happy that you made the effort!!

    2. Caveat that I’m not one for gifts and quietly spread the word of no gifts for my own wedding: I think that’s a lovely gift in most circumstances. However, it might sting a bit if you drop $500 like it’s nothing all the time and give the couple $100 or if the couple bought you something much more expensive from your own registry and you don’t reciprocate.

    3. I think that’s fine. I’m past the wedding stage of life but would default to $100 if attending solo ($200 if attending as a couple) in the LCOL Midwest. If you’re traveling, hopefully they’ll appreciate you making the effort to attend.

    1. Amen sister. My office sounds like the coughing ward. I’m up to Claritin in the morning, Zyrtec at night, 2 x daily Neti pot, and allergy eye drops, and al still miserable. Contemplating adding another Claritin in the morning even though it makes my head feel weirdly tight.

  5. My workplace is officially casual (dudes in polos, althleisure pants, executive sneakers), but I am more business-casual and real business attire about half of the time. I had bought some washable pants, but the cut (cropped to above the ankle, legs are a bit tapered) strikes me as not current. For now, I think that it would look better to be 1) straight vs tapered and 2) hit at the top of my foot. Yes? My suiting pants are cut like that, but I have yet to find a good washable pant that can be a daily driver on the days where I can just be business-casual or casual (for me, outfits worn with fashion sneakers for comfort, maybe with an elevated cotton tee vs a blouse). They aren’t bad pants, but really not great (would not wear to a work conference because it puts me in a mood to look bad when I’m in a room with my rival players).

    1. You answered your own question–whatever this cut is, it’s not flattering. Try some ponte pants in other cuts–whatever looks good with your body type. Super-skinny pants are out, but well-tailored ankle pants are sort of classic. That can go south depending on the fabric though….so if these particular pants aren’t flattering, look for bootcut, straight, wide-leg, or a different fabric as your new pants. You should not get dressed in the AM and have to select pants that you don’t feel great in!

    2. How “on display” are you at work? I’m still wearing this cut because (1) I own them; (2) they’re still in good condition;(3) they flatter me even though they’re not in style; and (4) if it’s not a court day hardly anyone sees me. Your answer might be different if you are on display at work or work in an industry where image is of paramount importance.
