Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Reader M suggests this lovely grey twist dress — which, we think, nearly sold out a week or two ago but is now available in the full range of sizes on the site (00-16). We love that it seems a bit more conservative than the Black Halo line of dresses — the sedate color, the cut of the arms, even the very slight slit in the skirt — all strike us as great for a casual day at the office. We’d probably wear it with a fitted blazer and the highest heels we could stand. It’s $148 at White House|Black Market, and reader M suggests trying code 8924 through 10/4 to get another $25 off. Sigh. I’m in love.

Beautiful. But what are those things on her feet?

I adore the neckline. Sadly, I don’t think front slits in the skirt go over well at my office.
DJ
Adorable! I’m not sure about the front slit either, though I guess since I’m 5’3″ and it’s not available in petite sizes, it might work out okay. The shoes actually look nice when you look at the other pictures (though I agree in the featured photo they look like something horrible). I want them as well :)
LL
I’ve tried this dress on. Very cute, although the belt is a little cheap.
L
I like it! I would have to try it to make sure not too short (for us tall girls).
Agreed that the shoes in the pic are hideous.

Pretty, but how will that knot lay if you are larger than a B-cup? Might be worth a try-on though if I happen through a WH/BH…
Mama JD
Love this dress, but don’t know what they were thinking when they put those shoes on the model with it! LOL. Divaliscious11, thanks for pointing out that those larger than a B-cup may want to try on. I was actually contemplating a purchase, but think I’ll hold off.

Lovely dress, but I cannot be trusted with front slits (no matter how short they are). I will ALWAYS expose more of myself than I intend.
S
Oooo, I tried to try this on in the store recently, and they had only one left, sadly not my size. Glad they restocked!

For me that neckline would just induce anxiety. If I’m doing something quirky I prefer not to do it next to my face where I never know if someone is looking at me or the triangle on my collarbone.
anonymous
I like it but I have a dress with a similar neckline and it looks goofy with a jacket or sweater because of the neckline is asymmetrical. Makes it difficult to wear for work.
Sharon
If you were to put a jacket over it — which you’d have to do — I think the angle of the neckline would just look weird and distracting, and if you had any sort of bustline at all, the jacket wouldn’t overlay properly on the bow area. A shame — with a straight neckline, it could have been a win.
Anne Vohl
I live in a small city, and to me that is a very pretty dress to wear to a wedding! It does not say “work” to me, for any season. Also, I question whether an asymmetrical neckline really works with a blazer. It is often difficult to coordinate a dress with a jacket, and if they are a matched set, that can be a very aging look.

I’m always too cold in my office for a sheath dress and this might not look good with a cardigan. Plus, it is SO TIGHT on the model.
Erica Foley
It is a cute dress (for a very thin woman with a small bust). I still don’t think the neckline is quite office appropriate. Actually, that stuck out much more than the front slits. But maybe that’s just me.
nathalie
This is a really cute dress, but I can’t see the neckline working well with a blazer…too bad. It is really nice for office-related activities that don’t require a blazer, though (work dinners etc.) Plus gray is definitely becoming one of my fall “it” colors!
SM
Yes! I am with Anne. Bridesmaid dress.
LawGirl
Dress seems too small and ill-fitting for the model. Looks like it got shrunk in the dryer. She needs to go up a size.
