With warmer weather upon us, I finally decided to set out on a new hunt for lipstick — and I'm really liking the one I went with. As soon as I tested it, I liked the way it felt on my lips — not sticky, not drying, just comfortable. Almost like a gloss, but with color. I also love that it has SPF 15 (lips are so often overlooked!) and my color (“plum nude“) is a nice step away from the darker plums I normally wear. Perfect for summer! Clinique High Impact Lip Colour SPF 15
Readers, what's your favorite lipstick with SPF?
Anonymous
Chantecaille’s Lip Sheer in “Titan”. On the website, it looks like a freaky purple, but is in fact a sheer, yet “there”, berry or plum color. As an aside, I am a huge fan of this whole line. My summer makeup is their Compact Foundation – a sheer powder foundation that disappears into your skin (none of that sitting on top of the skin and being obviously powdered), lip sheer, their equally sheer yet effective eye shadow in a beige-y color, their dark grey shadow as a liner, and a swipe of blush, which is, you guessed it(!), also quite sheer. A touch of Chanel’s best mascara, and I feel nicely but not overly made up, in a very few minutes. Ahhhh, summer!

Love Clinique — Lipstick is fun and cheap (which is why when the economy goes down, lipstick sales go up — we all need that little splurge/fun spot in the day!) — I do try to wait to make a trip though until they’re having one of their free-gift-with-purchase specials – that way I get to try out some of their other products – which, again, always fun!
I just checked my purse and I have a tube of Neutrogena “moisture shine lip smoother” (I found it online: http://amzn.to/9TK4cY) — I like that it has SPF 20, and has some staying power to it, but is still pretty sheer.

You can find the Neutrogena lip gloss at Target for about $8. I swear by it, it lasts forever and is the perfect combo of color/shine/non sticky.

The one I linked to was $14 for 2 – so $7 each (although not what I would buy if I knew I didn’t love it!)

I always start with a lip balm with SPF and then layer my regular lipstick over it. (My go-to lipstick for work is Nars Dolce Vita and it contains no SPF.)

I love Nars Dolce Vita! What amazes me about that color is the women at Sephora who sold it to me was wearing it, it looked gorgeous on her, I love how it looks on me, and our skin tones are on total opposite ends of the spectrum…very flattering color for many.

Bobbi Brown has a new lipstick – Lip Treatment Shine – that color-wise complements the current collection of lipsticks and has SPF in it. It’s shines a gloss but doesn’t have that sticky feeling. It’s a great summertime lipstick. And like K, my new tube is a brighter color than my normal nude-y darker pink-y color.

An eye liner threadjack!
Does anyone have experience with Lola Cosmetics?
Specifically, the Fineline Eye Pencil:

I am bad at eyeliner but improving, and if this is good quality it would be worth the price (rather than the $3 I spent on the CVS brand last year) for me.
Any other tips/rec’s for eye makeup, while I’m at it?

I recently changed to using an eyeliner brush (from Bare Minerals, I think, but I’m sure you can find anywhere) and a dark brown eye shadow. I find it really easy to apply and much more forgiving of a less-than-perfect line. plus, it blends wonderfully if I decide to do a “full eye”

I wear dark brown eyeliner. I find it looks very nice & subtle, while still giving the same effect; it is much more forgiving if your hand is unsteady & bonus — it smudges much better if you do mess up.
I use a christian dior brown eye pencil — works great, had it for years.

I’ve been wearing eyeliner for over 10 years and my favorite pencils are the Revlon colorstay (the black, brown and navy are good, rich colors and once the eyeliner sets, it doesn’t budge ) and the Stila pencil (onyx is very very very black but smudges very easily). My favorite liquid eyeliner of all time is Prestige, which I’ve only found at CVS and Duane Reade for about $6.
Tips: take your time applying the eyeliner and try to “connect-the-dots” when you’re applying it – make dashes or dots and connect them, it’ll look much better than trying to draw a line in one shot.

I just started using Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner (comes in a pot and you use a very fine brush) in Espresso and I will never go back to anything else!!!!!!!!!! I was spending about $10 or so on the drugstore brands and was a little nervous about splurging on this ($20 or so for the gel, but it lasts forever and another $20 or so for the brush, but you only buy it once). I have LOVED it. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the brush rather than a pencil, but it is FANTASTIC. Goes on great, never flakes / smudges, and lasts all day. I never have any seconds to spare in the morning (have a baby boy waiting on me before I go to work), but I always take the time to apply this.
Just my 2 cents. Hope you find something you like!

I have the exact same thing – mine smudges occasionally. But other colors don’t.
I don’t care – I stick with BB for the color quality. It never looks cheap or garish, can be applied heavily and looks lovely and formal, can be applied lightly and doesn’t show up at all. Her lip glosses and eye liners and shadows are impeccable. I haven’t had quite as much luck with all of her blushes and bronzers, but when I do find one that I like, it lasts me 6 months or longer.
I am also madly, madly, madly in love with her Skin foundation. Light, natural, covers all by the biggest/darkest blemishes. Worth the money. (Her concealers and spot stick are not. Try the NYX concealer pot – better product, less expensive.)

I forgot to add, when the eyeliner gels dry out (they will dry out before you’ve used them), add a drop of baby oil or mineral oil and let it soak in overnight. Just a drop is all you need. Repeat as needed until the gel is gone. I used a drop of the vitamin E oil that I picked up in the pharmacy aisle at my local grocer. My sister used a drop of olive oil. It all worked.

Bobby Brown. Pink-nude color in a small thin tube that has SPF 15.

Pink buff? I love this color – it looks good on me (ghostly pale WASP-y blond) and my sales lady (lovely dark african-american model type). I have to put just a dab on my lip and smooth it out with my finger to prevent it being too dark – but then it looks incredible. I got a sample that lasted me four months, then bought the normal size tube 4 months ago and its still going strong (I apply a dot of it twice a day).
Highly recommend.

How long does it tend to last? I have some Clinique lipstick that I love because it’s so light, but it tends to wear off very quickly.

I buy tons of Avon Glazewear clear with SPF 15 when they’re on sale, and mix in loose mineral blushes. My favorite lip color ever is one of my little creations.

Laura Mercier eyeliner pencil in Brown Copper.

I love Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. The color is much lighter than it appears and is sheer enough that I can put it on without having to look in a mirror.

I love the feel of Clinique, but the added bonus is that you can use the shiny bottom of the tube as a little mirror to get your lipstick on perfectly!
