Ooh: I love this walkable Mary Jane pump from Jimmy Choo.
For some reason I can see this looking particularly great with cropped pants — I am seeing a specific outfit in my mind right now but no idea where it's from (movie? TV?), but there are plaid pants involved. I think it would also be a great nude-for-you heel.
The pearl detail on the strap does give me pause, but I think it's subtle enough that it can work for the office.
The shoe is $875 and available in two colors at Nordstrom; there is also a sister slingback pump. At JimmyChoo.com they also have a mesh version of the pump, which I can see being chic for more special events, as well as two lace-covered ballerina flats. Nice.
Looking for something (slightly) more affordable? This Mary Jane pump from Margaux is lovely.

speaking of weekend clothes, what are the best jeans? and are there any of those gauzy linen pants that don’t make me look like my mother?
Best jeans is so personal but I’m wearing more straight leg styles for sure and liking Frame. Surprisingly I like the Quince linen straight leg pants, but wearing them with either ‘cropped’ tops or tucked in tops is key to showcase my waist, otherwise I look like a walking rectangle.
I find this type of silhouette modern and flattering (minus the cardigan) on my mid-40s thicker frame:

I’ve been liking my Levi’s. Had to go up a size from my jcrew size, but am a fan.
I have some Levis that I really like. I also surprised myself by getting a pair of slightly cropped wide leg jeans at BR Factory last weekend. I wouldn’t have thought that was a silhouette I would like, but I grabbed them to try on without realizing exactly what they were. I liked them enough to buy them and got multiple compliments the first time I wore them, so I guess they’re a winner! I’m curvy, size 12, in my 50s.
I really like Athleta’s linen pants.
Looking for a board game or card game for a girl turning 16. I don’t know her well, but she’s really enjoyed playing games at family events. She’s smart and athletic. Any recommendations for something released fairly recently?
We love Herd Mentality. It’s better with a bigger group but all ages can play!
My teens like to play board games and card games. Some recent favorites are Ransom Notes, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, Exploding Kittens, Ticket to Ride, and Blank Slate. They also like the local versions of Monopoly (we have one that is based in our city so the spots you land on are local landmarks.)
OP here. Thanks for the great suggestions!
what do you think you want in your next house or living situation? for me it would be more acreage for privacy and to grow more plants… not an open floor plan house… a kitchen with the sink and dish drying rack tucked into a corner not the middle island. wouldn’t be mad at a sauna.
To live alone. So tired of taking care of other people. Ideally a historic walk up, but I’m not picky as long as I’m alone
I have achieved this and it is nirvana.
same!
I’m in my 40s so our next home will likely be chosen for aging in place reasons. Single level, or a primary bedroom/bath on the main floor will be key. I do want a single family/detached townhome but I would strongly prefer 3 or fewer bedrooms and not too much land to take care of. It stinks that ‘The Villages’ model is really only available in Florida as I refuse to retire to a red state.
Complain to your elected officials. As long as they keep zoning terrible you’ll never have good options.
If I can afford it, I probably will. Ill just be the annoying liberal in every group.
I live in the blue bubble that is Orlando and can attest that left leaning professionals and young families are moving to Lake County for better housing prices. The Villages are in Lake and Sumpter, northwest of Orange.
Huh? Over 55 is luxury housing is all they’ll build in my suburban community. They claim it doesn’t burden the schools but it absolutely burdens the community’s roads, water, and hospital systems and they don’t pay their fair share in property taxes. 30 year olds can’t afford to live here, why are we giving tax breaks to wealthy boomers? Id rather have young families and single professionals move in. It seems like every few weeks an over 55 person has a “medical episode” and crashes a luxury pickup truck into a crowded building.
Curious – what is it about The Villages model that isn’t available elsewhere? I looked it up, it looked just like the Del Webb 55+ communities that we have and we’re definitely not a red state.
yeah I don’t think the Villages is that unique. It’s kind of famous but there are other places like it.
We’re in the suburbs but can still walk to the coffee shop and out to dinner. We can’t tell if it’s worth giving up for the big dream house. We have our eye on a second empire Victorian on two acres with a pool near the water. In our hearts, we’re old house people. Still, I’m very happy in my modest 1960s farm ranch. It’s a great layout for my family, it feels airy and modern. The mortgage rate is the actual dream. If money were no object we’d probably build a new “old” house: Greek revival with clapboard, real shutters and cedar roof in the kid friendly neighborhood near town.
I moved 2 years ago to a more rural home on several acres, after 25 years on a half-acre suburban lot. It is so much fun. I have chickens, bees, a garden and fruit trees. My soil is terrible, so I’ve spent the winter working on it, coddling my baby fruit trees, mulching, spreading organic matter, etc. It is so much fun. I am no fun at parties because I only want to talk about spreading horse manure in my garden, but I bring eggs, so I still get invited.
Haha, I also moved to a rural area with bad soil and am having NO fun. Glad it’s someone’s dream.
Solar panels.
I live on a large property in the woods, and I love the privacy and outdoor space. I’m planning to stay here for 20-ish years, so I’m doing the work to make the changes that I want for the duration. But the property is a lot of work, and I know I will eventually want a big change, so I am planning for my next living situation is going to be a city apartment close to lots of services and activities.
I want to live in a one-bedroom apartment, alone, with no yard or garden responsibility. I am so sick of living with other people (two teenagers, one male spouse).
I would like one of those cute California craftsman, with maybe 2 bedrooms, and 1200 sq feet max, with a tiny drough-resistant lawn and maybe some fruit trees. Just me and some cats.
I lived alone for 6 years before marriage and I still think longingly of my single girl one bedroom in NYC.
I live in a one-story CA 1950s tract house, it would be pretty good for aging in place if I replaced the steps in front and back with ramps. Not as cute as a Craftsman but charming in as the poor woman’s mid-century modern.
Having a sister with a 100-year old house has cured me of wanting one, absent a lottery win. If it’s not the plumbing, it’s the foundation. If it’s not the foundation, it’s the windows. On and on and on.
Hello my friend
A VIEW! ideally water, mountains, or heck a big field to watch sunsets.
I live in the suburbs, but after my son is out of the house, I’d love to move to a particular part of the city that’s in walking distance of shops and restaurants. I want a historic house with high ceilings and original floors and renovated kitchen and bathrooms. I want a medium-sized outdoor space, with a shaded patio and a fountain and space for potted plants and a few beds for vegetables or flowers, but no lawn. My current home is 4 bedrooms/3 bathrooms and 2700 square feet, but I think DH and I would be happy with 3 bedrooms/ 2 bathrooms and 1800 square feet.
My partner and I are moving in together in the fall and having this very discussion. We want a bigger house so our college age kids will have some space to hang with friends when they come home. We are in the inner suburbs of a MCOL city, so are hoping for two living spaces and a small backyard with a pool and room for the dog to go potty without having to get dressed to take her out.
lol. A second bedroom. Sharing a one bedroom with my son now
A live in housekeeper.
The people who get all snobby about living in an old house crack me up. We are in California where the old houses are from the 1960s. Very glad to be here, and don’t give a crap about the tract house judgment. We could sell our place and buy a castle anywhere else. But why?
whoa – costco has biore sunscreen! do we think this is the good stuff? I’m assuming they’re authorized sellers
I would bet it’s the US version of the sunscreen which sucks because it uses the US approved chemicals. If you google it there are posts about how to tell if you’re getting the US or the Asian version.
It takes a bit longer, but ordering sunblock from Yesstyle or Olive Young is worth it.
+1 almost certainly not the actual Japanese kind. I’ve gotten the American version before and it stinks in comparison.
+2 you can’t get the real versions of Asian (or European) sunscreens in the US. it’s nothing to do with Costco, it’s because the chemicals in them aren’t authorized for sale here. They may have a US version with the same Asian or European brand name, but it’s not the same sunscreen.
I stock up every time I go to Europe.
You can but not at major stores like costco
You can order them for shipping from legit foreign sites but there are steep tariffs.
I wouldn’t trust anything sold here illegally. I’d assume it’s a fake and fake sunscreen isn’t something you want to mess with.
FDA won’t let us have the good stuff here, because the newer ingredients have not been tested on animals, which is actually against the regulations of other countries for animal cruelty reasons.
