Like the platform but dislike the square toe (evident in the top down view). It would be great with an almond toe.
i love gray and i love shoes but these…not so much. i can’t point to exactly what makes them ugly to me, but i don’t think these are cute at all.
I agree — perhaps the outline effect makes them a little Star Trek looking? I would like them better with a more oval toe and without the platform.
Cat – YES! These are totally Counselor Troy’s date-night shoes!
These do have a bit of a Star Trek look to them, although my initial thought was not futuristic, but circa 1992! I think that they look like something Donna Martin (90210) or Kelly Kapowski (Saved by the Bell) could have worn. Square toe – two tone – thick heel, oh my!
I probably would not wear these, but they are certainly interesting to look at! Thanks for the suggestion.
Too funny — I can totally picture these on Donna Martin circa 1992!
I love my Rockport shoes, but not this particular style. But Rockport are the only heels I’ve ever owned that provide great arch support – and I’ve owned lots of “comfort” brand shoes.
Has anyone tried Tsubo pumps or other styles of heels? Thoughts on whether they’re office-appropriate? They always seem to have some extra little funky detail that makes me not quite sure.
No, but I had a pair of Tsubo sneakers that were some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned (second only to my Privos).
I have a pair of flats that are great too. I just don’t usually do well with heels, and have been wondering if Tsubos would be worth the investment (and also whether the elastic on the pumps or the gap in the back on the mary janes makes them too informal).
There was a post awhile back on Tsubos… you could probably search for it and find it.
Really ladies? I LOVE these shoes. Why would anyone say they’re ugly?
I really like them too! (Though do agree about the off center stud thing. . .)
I kind of echo what said about – very 90210 or Saved by the Bell. I think the square toe is throwing me off, too. If these were almond-toe, without the cut-outs and didn’t have such a pronounced “notch” on the side where the two panels meet (i.e., was smoother), I think I’d like them a lot more. Basically, they look clunky while the style for shoes nowadays is streamlined, sleek and dainty.
I had shoes like this in the ’90s and am not really excited to go back to the look. I think they’d look much better without the cut out or the square toe, but the two together make them look too dated. I don’t really think of shoes I was wearing 10-15 years ago as something that can appropriately be called retro just yet.
Not a fan, at all. The shape, color and fabric remind me of Teva sandals, the funky off center stud thing at the back is weird…and if comfort is the redeeming factor, there are cuter comfortable shoes out there. Yuck.
There’s something reminiscent of the two-tone effect often seen on bowling shoes/shirts here… a little too retro for me with the platform as well.
I do like the slate gray though – It’s a nice neutral option for the summer (I say this having just purchased a new summer purse that’s white with slate gray trim)
I like them – they’re just different enough, without being so weird I would feel like I stood out at the office in them.
I’m not sure I’d wear them with a skirt, but I love the idea of wearing the grey pair with black pants.
yuck
I love these!! Interesting but not distracting. Retro but not costume-y. Great height, great colors. I just bought them, thanks!
I initially thought these were really cute, but then read the comments and have been persuaded that they’re not. Peer pressure is a powerful thing….:)
no likey. there’s just far too much going on with those shoes (the platform, two tone, cut outs, etc.), plus the somewhat odd-shape (squared toe) and material (fabric).
You know, I didn’t really like these at first, but the more I look at them, the more they are growing on me. I actually really like them now.
As for the comment above re shoes being very streamlined right now – I am surprised! I would have said the opposite – there have been so many platforms and enormous cork wedges out there for a while now, and more are coming out now for the upcoming season, and it seems to me that just generally soles and heels are getting thicker. It does remind me of the early 90s, come to think of it (maybe that means we have finally powered through the 80s trends? We can only hope). I am largely non-excited about the wedge heels – they are more comfortable, but is it just me or do they always seem to make legs look thicker than they really are?
Like Dee, above, I don’t like these but can’t really explain why.
I like them, but something about their funkiness makes me think they don’t look dressy (or maybe conservative enough?) to wear with dress clothes to work.
Oooh…WAY cool! A bit of edge but not too much, and I love how squared-off toes feel (though sadly, I usually prefer pointy toes). I liked them in the beige with black trim on Zappos, though. The blue and gray colors looked not-very-neutral to me.
I can’t articulate why, but I think these shoes are really cool! And I love the slate gray color. Crisp white blouse, great black pants and these shoes.
Wandered over to the Rockport store to see them IRL yesterday. They don’t work for me. I think it’s that they’re fabric (and canvas, at that) which makes them look like a casual shoe that’s trying too hard to be dressy. The squared toe makes them seem dated, too. I love the colour and the two-tone effect, but I’ll pass.
