Coffee Break: Button Bow Box

I was perusing Polene's website the other day and was really intrigued by this unusual “button box box.” It's part of their collaboration with Róisín Pierce. As they describe it:
Unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, the “Button Bow Box” is the fruit of an encounter between Róisín Pierce’s feminine, poetic universe and Polène’s signature leather craft.
Meticulously sculpted in wood, its structured form is wrapped in supple nappa leather by skilled artisans and adorned with sixty-four hand-stitched buttons and bows. The shoulder strap is decorated with oval droplets held in place by knots.
I was unfamiliar with Róisín Pierce prior to this; a look at the website makes this all even more interesting because the brand is so artsy and ethereal. I truly don't think I've seen another bag like this.
The bag is $1,190 and available in cloud (pictured), a navy ink, and a porcelain white.

This is probably not that helpful but I saw a t*ktok of someone’s visit and it looked really cool and well done!
Yes, I visited and I highly recommend. There is some really cool stuff a kid would enjoy, like the life size cow made entirely of butter, a life size clay tractor, and some saddles/leather work. There is a dress made of cardboard butter containers. If you kid is not interested in the quilts or art you can just walk through that part quickly. The special exhibit takes up the entire museum. I was surprised because usually the special exhibits are only on one floor.
Is there anything to the news that my feed is picking up on fruits and vegetables and severe GI outbreaks? Not looking forward to a summer of cooked fruits and vegetables (other than corn). Corn summer?
These stories are nothing new—I haven’t ordered a strawberry smoothie in over 15 years. Fruits and vegetables, while delicious, can be a health minefield, even if you are picky with sourcing. I cook all of my vegetables, and the most I’ll do with fruit, outside of lemons and oranges, is bake pies.
This is why I’ve never been onboard with the bagged salad love on this board, or “eat veggies every day!” mindset.

We keep hydrogen peroxide cleanser in the kitchen ever since my kid’s school had an outbreak of gastric illness that was resistant to bleach. It’s safe to use on food (spray, let sit for 1-2 minutes, then rinse with water), pet safe, and what I use to sanitze our sinks/counter/cutting boards/knives if I cut meat.
Can anyone comment on whether its worth paying twice the cost for a Miele dishwasher over a decent whirlpool or ge model? My dishwasher is on its last leg and I am both tempted and somewhat skeptical it can be THAT much better. But if it is, I’ll do it. My house is 10 years old this year (I am not the original owner) with everything original so am slowly trying to replace things with upgrades as they hit end of life.
My vintage Amana dishwasher gets the dishes clean without a lot of pre-rinsing or fuss. It’s louder than nicer models. I’m annoyed by paying premium prices for “insulation,” but I know it’s worth it in some houses. Right now the only premium feature I’m considering is flood protection (though I know some people buy separate sensors for this instead of paying a high premium for a breakable part).
(I mostly thought of flood protection because I know two people who bought new dishwashers that immediately flooded their kitchens thanks to improper installation!)
We inherited a Miele when we bought our house and I love it. The pins are closer together so it’s a denser load, the silverware drawer at the top is amazing for getting flatware clean, and it’s quiet when in use. Over 10 years now with it (and pretty sure it was 10+ under the prior owner) and zero issues; have just needed to clean the filter like with any dishwasher.
Where do you put your purses when you’re at a restaurant? I had my bag stolen from the back of my chair when I was 17 so now I try to keep it either at my feet, on a hook if they provide it, or in the small of my back if it’s a clutch and there’s nowhere to put it on the table. (I realize the table isn’t best but it’s just my DH and me, we don’t care!)
You can try one of those things that lets you hang it off the table edge, although I have never been able to really make a habit of it. If you search “purse hook for table” you can find a lot of them online.
Failing that, that’s why I much prefer a booth or banquette so I can put my bag beside me.
Depends on the restaurant to some extent. I often keep it on my lap though.
depends on where I’m sitting. if it’s against the wall, I hang it from the chair on the wall side. if in the middle of the room, usually next to my feet. I could never get behind the “small of back” placement – maybe it’s just small city restaurant chairs, but scooching forward to accommodate a bag makes the seat uncomfortable to me.
I’ve seen those collapsible bag hook things advertised but frankly have yet to see anyone who looks chic or local using a BYO purse hook.
Any recs for 100% linen sheets under $300 with pretty floral patterns? I love the ones Garnet Hill has but theyre a little pricey for me. I know there are cheaper ones out there but i can only find them in solid colors or stripes.
