I'm always a fan of Soia & Kyo coats, and the Judy-M coat looks perfect for the person who wants to be warm but still stylish.
I myself like a hood, so that's a plus for me — if it's raining I'd prefer my hair not get wet since it takes forever to dry, and I don't always carry a hat in my pocket because they can be so bulky.
The asymmetrical zipper is also cool, and I like how, when open, the hood just looks like a slightly dramatic detail to a coat. Soia & Kyo has it in four colors, including green, black, ivory, and a beigy “teak;” Nordstrom has it in the green and the black. It's $625 (except the beigy one, which is marked down to $500.) There's also a Judy-L if you prefer a knee-length coat, as well as a hip-length version! All of the Judy coats are machine washable.
Also of note: I've always loved their packable jackets — and there are some great sales to be had. Check out this sleek short packable down jacket with cool linear details, as well as this moto-inspired version. (Some are marked final sale, just fyi!)

Good article in the Guardian summarizing how residents of the Twin Cities really feel right now: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/22/minnesota-residents-ice-surge-trump
It’s absolutely insane to see what’s going on. I have the utmost respect for those who are helping fight back and protect their neighbors from being brutally attacked.
It’s incredible how people in the rest of the US are just ignoring what’s happening. Yesterday a teenage girl’s car was rammed and she was abducted despite showing what appeared to observers to be a US passport. A five-year-old boy was also abducted. There are numerous accounts of US citizens having their cars rammed and being detained and injured, but no one in government or the media is even compiling statistics. At the very least, local law enforcement should be asking citizens to report incidents so it can publish counts. I don’t know why Congress and the courts are refusing to put a stop to this.
there was a NYT survey this morning that said that 73% of republicans think the country is better off than before. make it make sense… they can’t all be that uninformed or cruel?
They are. They’re fascists. Have just been pretending to be good people until now.
Did I miss the pretending? I remember what Republicans were like back when they came up with ICE in the first place.
They fall into a couple of camps – the dumb thugs, the sociopaths, the greedy capitalists, and all the other useful idiots who serve authoritarians well.
don’t forget the baby nuts and gun nuts
seriously i don’t understand how half the country can be these people.
Call your representatives NOW to tell them to vote No on the bill to fund DHS/ICE! It’s headed to the House floor as we speak
If you want to support any of the groups helping our neighbors against this occupation, there’s a good list here: https://www.standwithminnesota.com/
And contact your Congresspeople, especially if you’re in a red state. It should go against every principle conservatives claim to support to allow what’s happening here, and if they let this go on, they have to give up pretending to be anything but authoritarian thugs.
Got my first lash tint/lift yesterday and WOW what a disappointment. I feel like it emphasized how scraggly and short my lashes are, and while at least last night they were definitely black, today I feel like it’s completely invisible. The technician told me not to wash my face, so I didn’t… was this an especially bad lash tint/lift or should I just be looking at a different service?
I’m not going to say I told you so but I’ve posted this every time the question comes up. They only work for a very specific kind of lash, which most people do not have. Get extensions if you want easy lashes that look good.
It is beyond heartbreaking. Idk how these ICE agents sleep at night. They are literally making this country less safe each and every day
someone told me that the reason we never hear about the Proud Boys anymore is because they’re all ICE agents. yay.
I found it to be a waste of money. Like I literally can look better with some mascara. Last extensions are in a different league (and no, you don’t need to get crazy volume ones). They can be hard on natural lashes though. These days, I do a few underlash press on ones and am happy. I can usually get a few days out of them and way easier to apply than traditional false lashes.
Why is it warm AND stylish when it’s from Soya & Kyo but merely warm when it’s from Lands End? Is it that the S&K wearer is likely just younger and richer and maybe more urban / hip than a LE shopper? Because I swear I have the LE clone of this coat and I wouldn’t call mine stylish (but it is an awesome vary warm very washable very takes a licking coat).
Probably because the hood is shaped oddly (i.e., it’s fashunnn)? Asymmetrical zippers drive me batty but also may add to the look?
yeah, I really like the unusual collar, the fitted waist, the zip, and the detail at the wrists.
I mean Land’s End… isn’t fashion.
There isn’t a lot of beauty in a puffer so I appreciate any unique details.
totally agree. lands’ end is not and has never been fashion.
Sorry, but the details matter. That is why I was deeply disappointed when my mother fulfilled my senior year Christmas gift request for a Ralph Lauren duffle coat by giving me one similar and “better quality” from Lands End. She was probably right about the quality, but I was after the style.
Yep. LE has dowry cuts. It may be a coat but that’s doesn’t make it the same.
I’m guessing the fabric is more silky and “luxe”, although it may not be as long wearing as a Lands End coat. I’m still wearing an LL Bean down jacket from around 2001 and it’s honestly one of my best ones. It’s magenta so it hasn’t gotten as much wear as my neutrals, but those old-time quality coats can’t be beat.
I think the asymmetrical zipper and wide hood is more of A Look. I loooove my Land’s End down coat fwiw but I do see the argument that this is more fashionable.
+1
I don’t know much about this coat or the lands end ones but I find this more stylish because of those details, plus the vertical seams and the slanted shape on the cuffs. I think a very stylish woman can spot a chic coat anywhere but for someone like me avoiding dowdy brands like lands end and getting more pieces from more fashion-oriented brands is an easy shortcut to looking better.
Because if you go to the S & K webpage the model has the coat all zipped up… and strappy sandals ;)
I have a Soia&Kyo Camelia coat from about 5-6 years ago and also have LLBean puffers/parkas and the main difference is the cut. The S&K one is definitely cut in a more feminine fashion (princess seaming, nips in at the waist or an inset waist to give you more shape, the cuffs elongate the visuals of the arm, etc.). You look visually striking in the coat in a way that I just don’t in my LL Bean one. My mom/grandma sewed and the time/cost/labor of cutting and making garments that way is much higher, which is part (not all) of the increased cost.
I thought it was my LE coat from a few years ago at first. It’s got the same asymmetrical zip and dramatic hood. It’s great other than my dog tries to sleep on it if o don’t hang it up when I walk through the door.
Land’s End specializes in uniquely unflattering cuts.
Ha, seriously.
I laughed too!
I just helped my 93 year old family friend order something from Land’s End.
I had to find a modesty swimsuit for an upcoming trip- LE had swim leggings with an attached skirt. Egads, definitely not style points there but LE sometimes just gets the job done.
I did micro-needling and it was painful by my mouth despite numbing for an hour and my right side by my jaw / ear looked a bit perforated that lasted for several days. I am guessing that the first item can’t be helped. For the second, is it just “ask them to use a lighter setting”? I’m not sure why it was just one one side and not on the other. It was weird to feel like I was a steak getting tenderized (which I guess I was).
Hmmm, does your provider have a lot of experience? I’ve had it done for the past 3 months, and no problems at all. It’s red the same day, some peeling the next, then it’s fine. She uses Skin Pen.
omg I somehow missed that Renee Good was still alive for 8 minutes after the shooting and ICE agents blocked bystanders from giving her medical treatment?
Yes. She slowly bled to death while ICE didn’t just stand around, ICE actively prevented someone who said they were a physician from getting to her and then when the ambulance arrived, they wouldn’t move their vehicles so that the ambulance could get close, the attendants had to get out and walk to her.
It was clearly not a justified shooting, but even for those people who insist that it was, there is no basis to deny medical assistance. They let her bleed to death on purpose. Eight minutes is a long time. Try setting a timer and just sitting still in your car for eight minutes. It’s a horrible way to die.
They are brownshirts.
Has anyone been to Monaco? I read an article that it can be nice for hiking and the beach is right there and you don’t have to stay at $$$ places.
I went as a teen and thought it was very boring, but I couldn’t go in casinos and didn’t care about fancy hotels and spotting all the celeb yachts. If you’re not into the glitzy casinos and yachting scene, I feel like you’re probably better off just staying in the south of France, which has similar beaches and landscapes?
Yes, as part of a longer trip in southern France. tbh the least fave day of the trip – it just felt fake and gilded and swarming with influencers. Highly recommend staying in a diff town as the food, hikes, scenery, all wonderful otherwise.
There as a day trip. Very odd but something to experience. Strangest zoo on cliff I have ever seen. Probably best off staying in a nearby town. I imagine food costs would be crazy.
There is a really good documentary called Murder in Monaco that does a good job of capturing the vibe in addition to telling the actual story, which is fascinating.
Agree with other commenters. Monaco is a fever dream of conspicuous consumption, not worth your time especially if you want to hike.
i was there last fall. It’s probably the most dense collection of high-rise buildings I have seen – including Hong Kong, Manhattan, and other cities known for density. Outside of the area around the casino, there isn’t much to see. I would stay somewhere in France. Maybe pop over to Monaco for a day trip if you need so see it – but honestly, probably don’t bother.
I am moving to a new apartment and for reasons, I will not have space for separate washing machine and a dryer. Most of my clothes need to be airdried anyway, but I would like to have a dryer for towels and bedding (otherwise, the towels become very rough, we have hard warer where I live). Has anyone here any experience with a combination washer dryer machine (Bosch)? I would mostly use the washing machine function (3-5x week) and the dryer function 1x week.
In the US it’s incredibly uncommon for people to bring their own washers/dryers to an apartment. The dual ones in Europe are also much different than the dual ones available in the US
AnoNL means you are living in the Netherlands, ja? My one experience with a combi was living in an apartment in Amsterdam. It was… lousy. The drying took a looong time and generally did not get things very dry. After maybe 2 years, the drying part of the combi broke, so we were back to machine wash and hang to dry.
Caveats: I cannot remember what brand we had, and this was 15-20 years ago, so perhaps the technology has improved since then. However, I would not recommend them based on my experience.
You probably want to ask this not in a US-centric place. Those just aren’t common here.
pretty good number of responses though!
I had an LG one in the US in my old condo building. I didn’t like it. No one did. It didn’t dry very well. I inherited an old one when I bought my unit, and the LG one was brand new but never truly functioned properly.
Also, my LG one wasn’t large enough to wash queen size comforters.
Ugh, I had one of these and it was just awful. The dryer was terrible and would take hours. In the end, I started just hanging up my sheets and towels to air dry.
Dryer or not, can you use some kind of hard water laundry additive to help prevent build up on the towels?
The ability to hang sheets on the bed frame was my favorite thing about having a simple canopy bed.
I had one in London years ago and it didn’t dry very well.
When I lived in Denmark my unit came with 2 in 1. It was terrible at drying anything.
For towels, I did one dry cycle in the machine and then put them on the drying rack in the bathroom with heated floor in winter and hung them outside in summer months when it wasn’t raining. If you don’t have heated floors, use a small dehumidifier so your air quality doesn’t suffer. It was close to towel dried without the huge electric bill!
FYI…..If you are not used to Northern European systems, you need to air your home morning and night for 5 mins to avoid damp/mold, especially when you are drying clothes in your home. You can open the window for 5mins or use the vent. You do this year round. My home in Denmark had vents you could open in the wall by the top of each window if you don’t want to be opening and closing windows twice a day. The difference in air quality was measurable when I did this.
Born & raised in Eastern Europe ;) We’re obsessed with airing the apartment, bonus points if it’s freezing outside. That’s when we hang the duvets outside to ‘kill the bugs’ and ‘freshen’ the duvet.
Lol
I have had one.
Avoid. Do not buy.
I’m pretty sure the one I used in Germany was Bosch and it was awful. Maybe they’re better now (ten years later).
We had one in our ski condo and the dryer function took forever and didn’t really dry. Save your money and get a drying rack. I have one like this and I love it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00383O2UU?tag=stratdirectcampaign-20&ascsubtag=__st0122awd__cjig3m27b001pg5ye3fb0dajb__93095____h5__goo__1__h_st_00467____82725966__google.com
I store it folded up behind a door.
Thank you all!
This is what I thought, thank you for sharing your experience. I was hoping technology progressed and we can get a decent combo machine in 2026.
I am fine with air drying my clothes, it’s just the towels that bother me. I have already tried every way known to humankind to reduce water hardness except for installing central filter. I will have a commercial laundromat in the building, so they can get a ‘spa’ treatment there. Thanks again!
Perhaps it was of greater importance to them to get the shooter out of the way than to help his victim
