Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
Happy Monday! We're loving this gorgeous fitted blazer by Vivienne Westwood for today's splurge. We love the fitted look, the unexpected pop of color at the collar, and even the unusual shape at the collar. We'd wear this with a bright red, slightly chunky necklace, and neutral pants or a skirt — gray or black, most likely. Available at Zappos for $1,002. Vivienne Westwood – 780069 (Black) – Apparel
UPDATE: We've just realized the jacket is on deep discount at Net-a-Porter — it's barely a splurge at all at $368.
I am just not on board with this – I think it would make anyone other than those in an “artistic” field look absolutely batty.
yuck.
I think this is terrible. The collar is too huge and bombastic for such a tiny little cropped jacket.
I love this, but not for work. Would definitely wear it for a night out, though, probably just as pictured (white tee and dark jeans).
I agree, looks super cute with jeans, but not law firm appropriate.
Oh dear. C, I am going to have to disagree with this one, too! The fit is nice, but the collar is just too bizarre.
Seriously? Unless you’re a partner and can pull off the “quirky” label, I would stay away — maybe fine for off time, but not for work.
I loooooove this! I think that although you wouldn’t want to wear it to court, you could absolutely wear it in a law office. It just looks like an alternative to a colorful scarf. But maybe that’s just because I live in LA and we tend to dress more colorfully and creative than other areas of the country.
Love it love it love it. If it’s too much for your office, ok, don’t wear it, but elsewhere, it’s beautiful.
The collar is too huge and bombastic for such a tiny little cropped jacket.
Yeah, this is where I’m at. I don’t dislike the collar, per se; it just really doesn’t work for me with the little jacket. The proportions seem really off.
Also, I wish $400 for an item of clothing qualified as “barely a splurge” for me. I think that’s twice as expensive as the most expensive garment I own.
lol …BARELY a splurge! ha! If I was going to spend that much on one item, it would have to be timeless and classic and this is not …although I am a fan of VW.
I like it and think it would work in my office, but “barely a splurge”?? In this economy/time of layoff uncertainty? That’s a lot of confidence, C. You’re destroying the stereotype of the risk averse/cautious attorney.
Barely a splurge??
compared to most of corporette’s monday recommendations (think in the thousands of dollars)… yes, this is barely a splurge.
Love it, not for work, but probably anywhere else
oh, live a little! it’s still a dark, fitted jacket, but with a splash of unexpected fun–i’m digging it.
Sorry, but I agree with everyone else who had to laugh at the “barely a splurge” comment. Most of us non-lawyers rarely or never spend that much on one clothing/accessory item. Like v, that’s probably twice as expensive as the most costly garment I own, if you don’t count a few pairs of shoes I have purchased at Nordstrom Rack for $50-80 that were originally $300-400 – but then again, I would never have paid full price for them. If I were ever to splurge by spending $400 on a piece of clothing, it better be something that will last (and that I will continue to enjoy wearing) for decades. Maybe a classic bag or coat.
I think that jacket is awful for work or play.
I was just looking at this on net-a-porter this weekend! Westwood is one of the few designers who creates suits that are both elegant and slightly edgy.
I’m not quite sure what the hullaballoo about the collar is about–it has pretty much the same effect as a statement necklace or colorful scarf, as mentioned above.
I’d like to see it with something a bit less predictable like than jeans, though–perhaps over a print dress in the same colors as those in the collar and black ankle boots.
“barely a splurge” is accurate w/in the context of this blog–a splurge has a historic price range, and something in the $300s wouldn’t typically qualify, even if most of us still wouldn’t buy it.
if you don’t have anything in your wardrobe that’s over a $100, than you’re not likely someone who splurges anyway.
even if i can’t afford it right now, i still like seeing the true splurges!
Yeah, definitely not for me; the collar is too large and quite distracting. It also looks too “fitted” and will definitely not flatter anyone with a chest size larger than a 34B.
Agreed. This jacket isn’t relevant to me. I need help with hunting down work appropriate clothes — not an easy task in today’s super casual world.
Maybe Corporette could start a Saturday entry for items like this? (It is a cute jacket, but it’s out of place on a Monday morning). That way you can still share the fun stuff without getting me all jumpy about seeing this rare source of work clothing ideas dissolve away into just another fashion blog.
This blog is supposed to be for people with money, but not time. Plus, the jacket was regularly over $1000! And it was a Monday post, which is supposed to be the most expensive of the week.
I’m doing research on the web regarding garment descriptions. The description on the zappo site is dead on (revers neckline, altho technically not a collar but an extension of the center front), but most of all, this is a jacket rather than a blazer. Blazer=work attire. Jacket? maybe or maybe not. I’m not sure what makes something a jacket rather than a blazer and I should. I do like revers but this contrast fabrication is too dramatic for me to pull off. Perhaps you could wear this to work depending on what you paired it with, maybe a snappy red pencil skirt but shown with jeans it’s too casual.
It looks like a cartoon depiction of a black hole…. Really couldn’t pull that off. maybe I am just too “classically” inclined. But if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!
Amazing. Vivienne Westwood’s influence is still being seen throughout all disciplines. Ranges such as Ma.Strum and CLOSED have the VW flavour. Completely divine work.
