Suit of the Week

·

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

We noticed this DKNY suit a week or so ago, and liked the style of it, particularly the fact that it's unusual yet professional. The drop waist dress (with pockets), the twill jacket, even the use of orange, brown and black (which we're guessing most women don't wear together unless you're a cheerleader for the Cleveland Browns). We weren't 100% sold on the price, though.

Fast forward to this week, where Bloomingdales is having an amazing sale — 40% off if you spend more than $500. There are tons of exceptions (for example, Theory suits are not on sale, alas), but it's a great opportunity to get serious deals on bags, basics, and this lovely suit. The jacket was $395, now $237; the dress was $295, now $177.

  1. I don’t know, I’m not really a fan of the jacket. Something about the unstructured way it hangs open makes me a little leery on how it would look on an actual, running-down-the-hall-with-files, human being. Also, is it me, or does the top of the skirt look elastic-y? Otherwise… the dress itself is beautiful!

  2. Meh…Corporette I know taste is very personal, and you can’t/shouldn’t try to please everybody, but this suit and that stipe-collared blazer from a few days ago really turn me off. I don’t much like the cut or really anything about either of them.

The blue dress you posted, however, is just beautiful!

  3. I dont care for this at all. Not professional looking, or flattering. Just looks like it’s trying to be “cute” (but not succeeding). The cut of the jacket looks very cheap to me.

  4. top of the skirt does look elasticy, i agree, but otherwise, i love love love it.

  5. I believe the top of the skirt portion of the dress not only looks elastic-y but IS elastic. Yikes. I don’t like this suit one bit. I don’t like the black with brown, I don’t like the cut, I don’t like all the pockets, I don’t like that it doesn’t button. Just not a fan. I’m also in the camp that didn’t like that jacket with the huge collar the other day. Perhaps I’m too traditional even for biglaw!

  6. I feel like there’s a reason most women don’t wear brown, black, and orange together.

  7. Love this jacket, it is very unique and can be paired with a variety of items. Personally not crazy about the dress. Would splurge a little on this jacket and pair it with black trousers and have fun with coral accessories.
