For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Any ideas for fun things to bring to a vacation rental? Going to a New England lake house with three generations where the main activity is relaxing. Obviously will be bringing books and games, but looking for other ideas too. Any specific game recs? other activities? treats?
I’m not even sure what I’m looking for to be honest, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas as I start packing.

Know your crowd but cards against maturity (the kids version of cards against humanity) is a fun multigenerational game in our family. Warning – everyone needs to be okay with a lot of potty humor.
Apples to Apples Jr. is another great multigenerational game with less potty humor.
A few practical things that make a surprisingly big difference for us-
– motion activated nightlights for hallways or strange corners
– suction cup hooks for bathrooms (there are never enough places for towels or damp swimsuits!)
– glass markers / wine charms / drink koozies so people can tell their cups apart
– if the rental does not have a smart TV, throwing our old Roku / Chrome stick / Fire stick and HDMI cable in
– Surge protector or multi-outlet extension cord to help with all the device charging
Ask the elders for all of their recipes. Take pictures of the littles. Assemble it for xmas gifts. I’m assuming it’s not your family, you are new, and you want these people to like you, and you may be bored and need a task. Master the recipies of old while the elders are still around. Everyone will love you later for this.

J/k, the recipe books will still be cherished and poured over. Even Great Aunt Ethel’s mayo/jello/pulled pork nightmare concoction.
I’d bring a big puzzle because I think everyone could get in on the fun (if you might have a large space you can use for puzzle work)… I’d also bring an Escape the Room or something like that because I never have enough people to do it. Maybe also do a taste-test night with like vanilla ice cream or something fun like that?
Yup, the big puzzle on a table, where people come and go to relax, and puzzle for a few minutes.
I’m assuming this is your family? Bringing along some old photo albums to look through can generate some story telling.

We did something like this recently. Lawn games? We did badminton, croquet, bucket golf, and of course there are others. We all played these games during summers growing up with our parents and the kids got a kick out of learning them and obviously the adults loved teaching/reminiscing. Bubbles (huge bubbles, bubble wands, bubble guns – bubble technology has really advanced) were also a hit for the kids. One of those cute new polaroid cameras. The kids loved this, too. My niece called it the “old timey” without a hint of irony and I, 40, am apparently ready for the grave.
A couple of puzzles and some outdoor yard games (bocce and badminton are popular in my house).
OMG I just cannot with games. IDK why. I get stabby. What I do like: Monopoly, but expect crying from someone. Also, Texas Hold-Em played with real poker chips.
What worked for us: bringing sketch books and decent new art supplies. I could do it with the littles and just doodle a bit and work on my lettering. Kept my hands away from my phone.
I dislike most board games too. I will NOT play charades – I would literally rather stare at the wall alone than do that.
Flashlights for flashlight tag. Bug spray – like honest to goodness, deet-packed bug spray because… ooooof. IDK age of kids, but glow sticks go a long way if you have some younger ones who want something to do at night (temporary tats also fall in to this category for my kids). Warm clothes because it was 100 a week ago but like 65 today. Tweezers, because ticks are real and you don’t need a set of tweezers until it’s too late.
I sometimes enjoy getting to make a special recipe on vacation when I can cook without rushing… could be anything – lasagna & homemade ice cream come to mind!
Just got back from a lake trip. We had some pretty epic games of Uno on the patio.
Snacks — popcorn, charcuterie, brownies, s’mores fixings.
If you’re close enough, a short day trip into town can be fun and break up the day.
