For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
This suit first caught my eye in cobalt blue (because of course it did), but the peony pink best shows the pockets and shape, as well as being a fun color…
I love the fact that it's all-season wool, and comes in several fun colors, neutrals, and two prints (but note that the herringbone version is on final sale).
Pieces for the suit range from $89 to $229; blazers come in regular (up to size 20), tall and petite, and pants come in regular and petite (up to size 14). The pictured suit blazer is $229, and the pants are $150.

Trying to recall the travel package/tour companies that have been recommended here before. Thanks for the help!
Senior Attorney
I have had a great time with Trek Travel, if you like cycling trips. Also there is a small company called Mondo Bike Tours that does slightly less fancy European bike tours for half the price and we have enjoyed them very much, too. (They have a hiking/walking division called CustomWalks that is great, too.)
Cat
my grandparents did a number of Tauck (sp?) and really enjoyed them.
anon
Gate1, but they do skew to an older crowd.
anon
Other ones that have been recommended include Grand CIrcle Travel, REI, Backroads and Road Scholar

For Peru, vamos expeditions. For Ecuador, Julio Verne travel.

When I asked my husband if he could cover our kids’ school pick up so I could go protest outside SCOTUS yesterday he said of course and I came home to a crown daughter had made me for “doing a good job protesting” that she insisted that I wear for the rest of the night. So at least there’s that . . .
Anon
Oh wow, that is the best thing I’ve read yet today. Thank you!
Anon
I love this! Thank you for sharing.
Dr. The Original ...
That’s not actually a protest crown, that’s a clear indication that it’s an epic parenting crown. THANK YOU for raising a kid who gets why a woman using her voice matters. The world is better because she is in it (and because you are in it).

You are a great mom raising a great kid.

Last weekend was my Commencement ceremony (I defended back in August) and now this PhD thing finally feels real.
I didn’t end up buying myself anything commemorative, but I DID have small pins made with my book covers on them, and I wore them on my gown (put out Book 1, wrote and put out Book 2, and wrote Book 3 while in the program but never got to celebrate any of them due to covid), so it felt like a celebration of numerous things I’ve worked incredibly hard on.
I even ended up with some photos of myself in cap and gown that I like (I tend not to like photos of myself) which is a surprising plus.
Cb
Oh I love that! And 3 books during the PhD? Teach me your ways as I’m ahem 4 years out and with zero books.
Dr. The Original ...
Some of it was that I’d been in the space 20+ years before I went for my PhD so I was already in it, some of it is that I’ve been writing since I was super young so it’s something I have a ton of practice/experience with and a love of, and some of it is complete and diagnose-able anxiety that didn’t let me sleep anyway so why not write? lol Whatever your process, you’re likely doing super awesome! If you ever want to talk details, drop a burner and I’ll email you!

Mine are the baby squirrels running around my balcony. They are SO CUTE and playful with each other. I love them.

I saw the otter in the river that runs through my village yesterday. I just stood and watched him for ages, and this woman and I had this “this is amazing!” experience together. He’s a bit elusive and we’ve been here 18 months and that was my first sighting.

There’s a family of foxes living under my deck and watching the baby foxes play gives me ENDLESS delight. This is the third time momma fox has had babies under my deck and seeing her the other day after she didn’t come last year was the most exciting thing!
DallasAnon
a family of foxes living under your desk and then I couldn’t see any other word but desk for quite a while and I was so confused
DallasAnon
“I saw”*** was supposed to be on the beginning of that sentence
Anon
Wait, do you live in my house? Three kits under the deck that come and out and roll around in the grass. This doesn’t happen every year but I love when it does. I am amazed that mama fox is unfazed by my dogs, who do not share her nonchalance.
Anon
Hahah maybe we’re the same person!? My dog barks at the foxes through the window and momma fox glares at her but does not seem to care otherwise.

The seniors at the local high school do a squirt gun “assassin” thing during senior week (this week). The senior that lives in our four house cul-de-sac is one of the last ones standing apparently. The three surrounding houses, mine included, have been on like full surveillance sending pictures and texting when we see someone in the vicinity to help him out. Driving to work this morning I caught three kids behind his house waiting for him and two cars of kids up the street. Clearly, I sent that intel right to the group and he was able to escape.
This neighborhood watch group includes a very retired elderly couple, my middle aged family and the young family next door with mom on maternity leave. It’s actually incredibly hysterical how we’ve rallied around this kid’s survival. I’m very invested in his victory, it’s hysterical this long text chain I’m on with the adult neighbors, and it’s brought some neighbors together who don’t usually socialize and some needed levity to our worlds this week.

My husband accepted a new job offer yesterday. His current commute is 1 hour, each way, in major metro traffic. His new job is local. Which means he’ll be close enough to do daycare pick-up and/or drop-off of our toddler. Traditionally this has solely fell on my lap with my full time job. I’m having major sighs of relief about this change.

I started taking an anti-depressant a few weeks ago, and while I had a lot of side effects (stomach upset, sleep issues) I wasn’t seeing any benefits. I just got back from my Rotary lunch and this week we honored five public school teachers in our annual Teachers of Excellence program. The program included a short video about each teacher, including adorable snippets of interviews with their students, and the thing that struck me the most is that from the littlest kindergartners to the high schoolers, the big takeaway from all the kids was that they loved their teachers because they were “kind.” It brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat and made me resolve to be kinder to everybody in my life.

Random thought… I wish there was a way for us to get group discounts. Ya know how some companies or alumni associations get discounts due to frequent use? Between us, there’s so much travel that we should get discounts for flights, hotels, etc. Heck, even bulk discounts when tons of us buy the same item or something!

A family member recently had some career and metal health troubles. His wife reached about and asked if I knew a psychiatrist and, although I didn’t, I gave her the steps to go about finding one.
That was more than a month ago and the last time I spoke explicitly about it to anyone. Ever since they both seem terrible. Extremely quiet, won’t make eye contact, just staring blankly and talking and moving extremely slowly. Not responding to texts except to say really uncharacteristic things days later. They seem like zombies. I’m so worried. I can’t tell if theyre not medicated and need to be or over medicated or self-medicating but it’s just so off. Is it appropriate to share this concern with mutual family members? It feels like “mind your own business” is the right response except that I want to help and things just seem so off. I did offer to watch their child and they have taken me up on that.
Anonymous
I would ask the wife how he’s doing before discussing it with other family members.
Anonymous
+1 — she’s the place to start, with a conversation. Also, it’s a Know Your Family thing. Is your family kind and loving and (generally) wise and mature? If so, then I’d be likely to talk with whatever family member would have a level of influence and wisdom regarding the situation. If your family is unreliable, foolish, or toxic, then of course that’s not a good route to go.
Anonymous
I did try that. She’s like an entirely different person. She says it’s been hard but she mostly just stares into space. It’s really upsetting.
No Face
How did you phrase it? You may be past a “How are doing?” conversation, and at a “I’m really worried about you because you stare off into space and seem like a different person” conversation.
Anonymous
Something big clearly has gone down. Can you ask her more direct questions? What’s the diagnosis, what meds is he on, etc.? If she previously reached out to you for help she will likely be open to this type of question from you.
Anonymous
If he’s home and not hospitalized, she is likely sleep-deprived and in a constant state of alert. It’s also likely that she is doubting her own judgment about what she’s seeing. If you give her a clear and detailed account of her concerns (e.g., your husband seems extremely slow and I am concerned he is overmedicated), you may validate concerns she already has. If you are close enough and have HIPAA authorization, you might also offer to help serve as an advocate with the treatment team. Health care providers often treat spouses of people with mental illness very poorly and discount what they have to say, assuming they have contributed to the problem.
Anon
I am forever grateful to family who intervened when I was overmedicated. They recognized I was not myself at a time when I was way too much of a zombie for that kind of thought to even register.
Anon
Seconding an earlier commenter that this depends on your family, so please consider that aspect, but it seems to me you might be able to raise this with another family member without bringing in the previous conversation. Like the fact is that they seem weird, off, whatever, and you’ve observed that regardless of the psychiatrist convo. If you have a family member who’s closer to or more influential with them, you could just tell them what you’ve seen and that you’re worried and aren’t sure they’d welcome a check-in from you but maybe the other family member is better positioned to do something like that.

One of my good friends is really, really sick with COVID. I am not sure what to do to help her. She has a spouse who is taking care of all the necessities. A week in and not getting any better – on several drugs right now and under threat of hospitalization if things do not turn soon.
Any suggestions for how I can help, what would have helped you if you were in my friend’s situation? It’s hard to sit by and do nothing.
Anon
I don’t think there’s a whole lot you can do. Maybe ask the spouse what would make life easier for them, eg food delivery?
Sorry your friend is so sick. My triple vaxxed 40 year old boss was hospitalized in January and it was pretty scary but he ended up being fine and doesn’t have any lingering effects now.

So sorry to hear this. Thinking good thoughts for you and hoping for your friend’s recovery!

When I’ve been in rough shape, I’ve always appreciated homemade food that’s easy to reheat. Spouse is probably doing a lot of caregiving/worrying and so would also appreciate a meal off from cooking.
I think/hope Covid therapies are easy to access now, but it’s probably worth checking in if they need any help with legwork for getting care/access to therapies. I’m in a risk category where I would qualify for therapies, but because I’m boosted and my underlying condition isn’t too horrible, I’d not be at the top of the list. If there was a short supply, I’d need help tracking down somewhere that had enough that I could access care.

Thank you all for the small face mask recs on the morning thread! Happy to give some of them the go.
Anon
I missed the morning thread, but if you’re petite I would definitely recommend trying kids’ masks. I’m 5’11” with a rather large head and I can wear my 4 year old’s masks in a pinch. They’re too tight and I wouldn’t want to wear one all day, but they go on and cover my nose and mouth properly, so I assume they might work pretty well for a petite adult woman.
