Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. What, you don't enter every boardroom and assume this stance? Modeling aside, we like the dress — it's a ponte knit, which we like because it holds its shape without wrinkling and can oftentimes be washed on the delicate cycle. We also lurve the crosshatch pattern, as well as the nice high neckline with the pleat details. It's $119 at Dillards in sizes 4-16. 1. I could definitely see this paired with a black cardigan and a basic black round-toe pump. Cute!

  2. Super cute! The model has her shoulders hunched so it’s hard to tell from the picture, but the sleeves look like they could potentially be a bit gape-y. As in, if she let her arms hang down normally the bottom of the sleeves look like they would be at mid-breast level. Side boob, anyone? Anyway, I actually got a similarly shaped dress from H&M (it’s actually good enough quality to wear to work!) and I think this cut is very flattering.

    1. I’m guessing she has very little body fat, so any apparent gaping would not be evident on a more normal figure. I’d be more afraid it would grab my flabby upper arm and highlight an unattractive spot. That’s why I love MamaJD’s styling suggestions! Nice!

The dress looks to be above-knee length, although God forbid the website should actually tell us! 40 inches hits the back of my knee at the crease and I am 5’10.” If anyone finds the actual length of this dress…..

  3. The hunched shoulder pose makes it difficult to see how long this dress would be if she was standing up straight. Boo.

  4. Does anyone know if the shoulders poof out (again, can’t tell due to the bad pose) — having larger shoulders, I’d pass if it does.

    1. This certainly looks like the same dress, but is possible that Dillards sells it in the black-cream fabric while Nordstrom sells it in black and black-purple…I prefer the one with cream, but like Kathryn, I’m on the tall side and I’d need to be sure about the length.

  5. Sometimes Nordstrom poses are dull, but they are much better about letting you SEE the clothing. Good find, J!

  6. Nice. I’d change out the belt for something textured, faux croc. Maybe even real croc. And I can count the number of dresses I’ve owned that cost this little on one hand.

  7. Nice find. I’ve been really disappointed with a lot of the dresses I’ve ordered from Nordstrom lately, but this might turn things around!

  8. Very cute, however, the one (and only) Calvin Klein dress that I purchased online from Macy’s appeared to be very cheap looking when I had it in my hands. Additionally, I ordered it in a size 8, it was very baggy and not figure flattering. It felt more like a size 12. Anyone else have this issue with CK?

  9. This dress also comes in plus sizes as well. I tried it on at Bloomingdales, and it is a comfy dress (due to the fabric), along with looking professional. I don’t have the links handy, but I’m guessing Nordstrom’s or Bloomingdales online would have it.

  10. I don’t like the sleeves of this dress, they seem to be the wrong shape, too boxy. I think it would make those of us with broader shoulders look like linebackers. Would have to try on (also, to check that it was long enough).

    1. A very lovely dress! I would wear a strapless bra because I am sure the straps would show with a regular one. Nice find!

      1. I agree with strapless. BUT, I hate strapless. You may be able to get away with a full coverage regular bar, secure it tightly in the back, and then safetly pin the straps to the edges of the neckline. Not sure if it will work!! But, it is worth giving it a shot if you hate strapless.

  11. Last week we were talking about JCPenney as a “dirty little secret”. Check out this dress at JCPenney (from the Jones New York branded line at JCP)

    and this dress at Macy’s

They look like the same dress to me. The color choices are different but the price isn’t even in the same ballpark. (And everything is ALWAYS on sale at JCP so you really need to ignore the original price as it was probably marked that price for a couple of weeks.)

    1. I ADORE JCPenney. The JCP one might have more of that cheap ribbed feel, but even that I’ve seen more at Macy’s and Dillard’s for twice the price. Great find!

  12. This TPS black-but-not-solid black dress brings to mind a problem I have.

There’s this tone-on-tone jacket I bought at the end of fall sales last year. It has bell sleeves. The background color is black and the “top’ color is brown in gentle swirled/rippled pattern. The fabric’s hand is flat.

What in the world do I wear it with? All black seems severe to me, as in the black dress, or black skirt/pants and black top.

I’ll try to find it online, but as I said it was last fall and from a boutique.

Thanks…my office leans towards more creative dress options.
