Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Dior’s Zoya Knit Sweater Dress

Gorgeous, gorgeous dress of the day: a wool sweater dress from Dior. In addition to a streamlined fit and a sophisticated shape, we love the little details of this — the tiny dot pattern of the dress, the way the hem peeks out from beneath the skirt, the folded detailing at the cuffs and of the waist (close-up picture below), and the inverted pleat at the front of the skirt. Question for everyone: is that dress too short for a business casual office? I have pretty long legs and it’s nearly impossible for me to find dresses that sit much lower than that on my legs, but then I’m always worried they’re too short when I wear them to work. What do people think is an appropriate length for dresses like that with conservative upper halves?
I had the exact same question when I saw that dress. It’s important to remember that models have very long legs but also very teeny sizes so that can change how the dress looks. I am leggy, not model-slim but even in larger sizes many dresses are too short. Personally I wouldn’t wear this style because my legs would definitely be on display. I am 5’7 and even when crossing my legs at the ankles they are prominent when I am sitting across from someone and it looks awkward trying to fold them to the side and mess with a short skirt/dress. It’s not fair but I have always felt like petite, shorter (under 5’3) women could get away with a lot more when it came to hemlines. I am not sure the top of the dress being so conservative is helpful. It might even call more attention to the fact that there is so much exposed leg. A darker gray opaque tight might help but I wouldn’t sport that look.
time to dial back the “splurges” given what’s going on on wall street?
imo, in that picture the model is pushing it, even with the modest top half. tights would help.
We’ve got a call pending with the good folks at eLUXURY for the length of the skirt — but I think you guys are right; the way the model is wearing that dress it’s a bit too short.
Perhaps tomorrow for the poll we’ll talk skirt length… I would have said previously that, so long as you’re wearing dark tights and the hem is well past the tips of your fingers by several inches, then you’re fine — but then about a year ago I was wearing a dress and dark tights and realized my dress was way shorter than I thought when one of my bosses asked me to take a box of documents with me on my way out — and it was embarrassing for me to for me to bend over and stand up with the box. Ah, the glamorous life…
