Lunar Beauty's lip gloss in Starlight is one of the prettiest colors I've seen in a while.
They describe it as a “medium tone pink with multi-color reflect glitter,” which makes it sound like it's a bit more razzle dazzle than it is — I think it's neutral enough you could wear it as an everyday lip gloss without worrying there's a neon sign over you reading GLITTER LIPSTICK.
You can find it at Ulta or the brand's page for $17.

Heading to Lake Geneva, WI for a couple of days this fall. Does anyone have any recommendations for good hiking spots? Hoping to spend as much time outside as possible so any other ideas would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Any recent experience with the Sagamore Resort on Lake George? I’d heard good things from friends who went years ago but the online reviews are rough. Or suggestions for other kid-friendly hotels in that general area with pretty nature views and a swimming pool? We would only be staying 1-2 nights (driving between Maine and Niagara Falls and stopping here to break up the drive — the ideal stopping point distance-wise is around Albany but I’d prefer nature over city).
Have you thought about Lake Placid instead? Lake George is, of course, also surrounded by nature and hiking trails but the town is a little kitschy/overdone (per my taste=lots of mini golf and water parks etc). Lake Placid feels more rustic but yet still lots to do. But again, both are basically Adirondack Park or adjacent so there is tons of hiking to be had! Also suggest looking at Saratoga Springs, which is nice too.
It looks like Lake Placid adds quite a bit more time to the drive. Saratoga Springs is closer – any specific lodging recs there?
Kitschy is ok. Mini golf would be a plus for the kid. It doesn’t need to be super luxe, we’re generally Hampton Inn/Holiday Inn Express-type travelers on road trips, but I thought it could be fun to stay somewhere that’s more resorty and has lots of stuff to entertain the kid on site.
I went last summer and loved it. Pay attention to the room pics, we did a lodge which was dated but spacious and worked for us. Lots of restaurants all of which are perfectly fine, none of which are amazing. The real joy of it is just being in such a beautiful space. The pool view is stunning. For 1-2 nights absolutely
This sums it up well! It is a beautiful area. The rooms are mostly dated, but it is totally fine overall. You will be happy there on a road trip stop.
how often do you check your retirement or investment accounts? for me it’s about once a week but I check them all at once thru Quicken Simplifi
Once every few months but I’m two decades or more from retirement
Maybe logging in once a month when I’m looking at it for a different specific purpose (e.g., did the catchup contribution from my employer land for this year? did I max out 401k already or do I need to increase contributions?), and then annually with my financial advisor.
I was a baby lawyer during the 2008 recession and learned to tune out the minor ups and downs in favor of the long game, and most of my retirement accounts are target dates that don’t need active management.
Once a month when I update our forecasting. We are CoastFi, so I’m not touching anything, but we are tracking to make sure we don’t fall out of CoastFi or reach a certain number where we feel good about taking some money out early for a remodel.
At the end of every quarter, I check both mine and my husband’s and tell him how we are doing. Annually, I check both of our Social Security statements. We are 5-7 years out from retirement, but I have been doing this for at least 10 years. Anything more frequest makes me crazy.
Once every couple of weeks even though I’m very far from retirement. I like knowing. Also CoastFIRE-lite (still contributing, but not aggressively).
I am the number 2 at a small non-profit and…realizing that my boss just really, really likes the status quo. Well, he doesn’t like it, will complain about it, but then when time comes to pull the trigger he’ll always find a reason not to.
I have two kids, 4 and 8, and would like to keep this job. So do I just…not propose any new changes? How do I get used to just being in a role of positional leadership?
not everything needs dynamic growth or 10x last year’s stats or whatever. sometimes businesses can just chug along happily but they do that by being good at what they do.
I think you just stop proposing new changes and mentally get to the stage where you acecpt the status quo as the price of admission for this job.
However, if your boss likes talking about potential changes that he won’t implement, then you can continue to provide ideas while also acknowleding to yourself that nothing will change – this may be more frustrating. Some people love to chew on ideas but hate executing them.
As long as your current boss is in his position, nothing will change. If you want to keep your job, you just have to accept that. It’s like becoming content with anything else in your life that you either cannot or will not change. I find it’s easier to do this when I don’t think about the things that I would like to change or could so easily change. Even if the boss brings it up while he’s complaining, just “uh huh” back to him and change the subject.
Over the weekend I visited some friends in New York, and we wound up staying out all night. One of their other friends was also visiting, and I felt like he was hitting on me the entire night. Things like calling me a beautiful girl, grabbing my hand to hold it for a second while we were walking, saying that I was so amazing to talk to that he wanted to stay up all night talking with me. It turned out that he is married, and at one point he said that he wife would be very upset to hear he was staying out all night talking to a girl. He said she is jealous ‘in a cute way,’ but will try to control whether he goes out with friends. Our mutual friends (a couple) had expressed that they were a tiny bit wary of him because years ago, before he was married, he would often say that he and his girlfriend were on a break and then would flirt with other girls when they went out. I asked him about this and he said that he was genuinely on a break previously and would never ever cheat on his wife. He did say though that once you have a certain level of wealth, men get options they didn’t have previously, and also feel numb about everything, so they are more likely to stray, and that he doesn’t know many (if any) faithful wealthy men.
The whole thing left a weird feeling for me, and I’m not sure if I either a) participated in crossing lines with a married man or b) completely blew something out of proportion and am too sensitive to flirting. Does this sound like crossing a line? I can’t tell if it was normal / appropriate, or if it veered into line-crossing. When I confronted him and he was so insistent that he’d never cheat that it made me feel like I was imagining things. But also, the holding my hand did feel like in new territory. It doesn’t really matter since we will only see each other a handful of times in the next year, but I did feel a bit disoriented by the whole thing.
