Suit of the Week: Boss

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women's suits of 2026!
I was perusing Hugo Boss's offerings for women's suits, and I like the pictured suit, as well as the other matching blazer (a shrunken one!).
But first, we need to discuss: Boss has cargo pants with a suit. The jacket that matches the cargo pants is both cropped and oversized. I'm… not sure how to feel about this. I would expect this from one of the younger suiting shops like Abercrombie, or one of the more creative suiting brands like Frankie Shop — but BOSS. Whoa. Thoughts?
Another interesting note: Boss is all in on buttons this year! I cannot remember seeing a double-breasted blazer with quite so many buttons. Even the shrunken blazer has two buttons. (And the pants have flap pockets… with buttons.)
The pictured blazer is $649 (as is the other matching blazer), and the pants are $349.

I kind of love the cargo pants suit…
I bought similar pants from Ulla Johnson last year with a matching top and it is surprisingly workable in real life. Especially when you style is already veers artsy-exec. Not gonna lie that I’m considering the cargo pants suit…
Banana or Banana Factory has something similar in concept.
I wear real cargo pants/5.11s to work, so I kind of love this!
I need a new toilet ASAP. Is there a real difference between the American Standards at Lowe’s vs Ferguson? The models are different and ones at one place are twice as much as the other (ditto for Kohler).
Yes there is a difference. TBH I don’t actually remember what but my brother is a plumber and we had a whole conversation about it at Christmas and my take away was ‘buy the fancy toilet’. He explained things about intake, pipe volume, and smoothness, but the details escape me.
Fancy as in Toto? Or just the most expensive AS or Kohler? I don’t need a bidet, I just need it not to be a lemon (and the one that broke was a Ferguson AS model back in 2019; it’s siblings are fine but this one has always had issues).
Fancy as in more expensive AS or Koehler. He does not like the electronic ones.
I would always go with the Toto. Toto 4 life!!!!
Yes, there is a difference between a name brand toilet (or faucet, or sink) from Lowe’s/HD vs. the same brand from a plumbing supply house. Always get from the plumbing supply house.
Is Ferguson even a plumbing supply house? Where I live, they are fancy showrooms for PE finance bros on their new builds. It doesn’t seem oriented to the trade at all.
I’m not super familiar with Ferguson, but I think they maintain supply houses in addition to their showrooms. I don’t think they’re necessarily the best supply houses, though.
Oh, and I was skeptical, but we let our plumber talk us into getting pressure-assisted toilets and they are fantastic. I thought they’d be unreliable and expensive to fix, but no problems even after several years.
One of the posts yesterday got me thinking. Do you enjoy having a variety of people and relationships in your life, or are you more content to have a couple close relationships?
I am definitely the former. I have close friendships, but I really thrive when my social life is active and diverse. I enjoy lots of different types of friends and activities, and the variety gives me energy and makes me feel alive. I really noticed this during the pandemic—I was grateful to still be able to nurture close relationships, but I missed the “loose ties” of the workspace, cafe, social engagements, workout classes, etc. that add interest and spice to life.
I also need plenty of downtime and alone time. All of this means that I am sometimes less available than some people would like me to be. Of course, there are some in my life I’d love to see more but they like even more variety/downtime/busyness than me!
What about you?
I normally prefer a couple of close friendships but right now, I find myself in a friendship drought, especially for certain hobbies or “stage of life.” Between moving, the pandemic, and general social trends, I just haven’t made any permanent new friends in years. I don’t have any other women to ski with, for one, and would love to find at least one! I’m also really trying to make some local mom friends. It’s been a bit challenging to meet moms despite a plethora of organized moms groups in the area because 99.5% of their meet-ups are geared towards SAHM schedules, which don’t apply to me. Constant battle over here.
Definitely the former as well. I love a loose tie.
I WFH, which has not been good for this, and recently joined a coworking space that some coworkers come to too. It’s been fantastic. However I’ve noticed that I don’t get the full benefit when I go by myself, even though plenty of people use the coworking space as just a desk outside their house. For me whether or not there are other coworkers there makes a big difference.
One part of the coworking space you have to be completely silent in. In another section, you can have normal conversations. The completely silent one doesn’t work for me either – and neither did the quiet floors of the library in college.
I like collecting acquaintances as I go, and some of them become close friends over time. Some of my closest friends are former coworkers.
I have a few deeply close longtime friends, but they in other cities. We text and visit each other when we can. We are raising children, so the visits are less frequent but all the more meaningful.
I’m also the former, but like you, I also love my alone time.
I also do a lot of activities, which keeps me happily busy!
I’ve kinda given up on long-term close friendships, tbh. All the people I thought would be long-term friends have ended up drifting as we move or get married or have kids. I had a period of mourning for having fewer deeper relationships, but now I appreciate the variety and adaptability that comes from being more opportunistic in my friendships. It makes friendship much less stressful too – I don’t have as many expectations and can just take it for what it is instead of stressing about whether they’re as committed/invested in the relationship as I am and getting most of my social needs met by a small subset of people. I do still really like the idea of a few close friends (making friends is such hard work!), it just seems mythical/unattainable.
I prefer having a couple of close friends but I’ve basically given up on that. I’ve been hurt too much by too many BFFs. The last BFF break up broke something in me. I was pregnant with my first/only at the time and having her betray me at such a vulnerable moment was worse than any romantic breakup I’ve been through.
I have a ton of casual friends, though, and they’ve collectively shown up for me and LO in wonderful ways. I’m focusing on building community. Or possibly multiple communities. I think perhaps that’s healthier than dumping so much of yourself into one or two people. And I think it’ll be good for LO to have lots of different people in his life.
