Tuesday’s TPS Report: The Heritage Navy Blazer

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

The Heritage Navy BlazerWe’re liking this basic blazer from Land’s End today — it’s a “blend of wool and stretch,” with all the traditional goodies: stacked button cuffs, tailored fit, flap pockets.  We wish they had a picture of the back of the blazer, to show the vents, but hey — it’s still a great basic, at a fairly decent price.  It’s $190 at Land’s End, in sizes 0-14.  The Heritage Navy Blazer

Guest Post: The In-Between Time

Today’s guest post is written by Kalyn Johnson, a new friend of ours — a former corporate lawyer, she is now a fashion stylist and blogger.

dressing between seasonsIf this past weekend’s weather is any indication, Spring might be here to stay. But, Mother Nature usually has a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to permanent nice weather and I’m not expecting this year to be the exception. The hardest thing about transitioning from a Winter wardrobe to a Spring one, is having the right clothes to wear for those in between days. You know, the days when it’s 50 degrees and chilly although it was balmy and in the 70s over the weekend. And honestly, 70 degrees in April is just not the same as 70 degrees in June.

So, what’s a girl to do? [Read more…]

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Tulip Skirt

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Picture-2This brand, Harvey Faircloth, came to our attention recently because one of the 3 designers was in the news, having recently been appointed design director for Kate Spade Accessories.  But when we clicked through to look at her brand, we fell in love with the slightly different, interesting pieces — particularly this tulip skirt, which comes in seersucker, a geometric print (also pictured, but in the top), a navy cotton/linen, a narrow stripe (we think that’s pictured), and a navy silk gazar.  We love the high waist, the bow detailing in the back, and the way it can feel extremely casual (see right) or dressed up for the office.  It’s $295 at Harvey Faircloth, available currently only in sizes 2 and 4.   Tulip Skirt

Weekend Open Thread

Tucker The Classic Mini DressHappy Easter to all!  Something on your mind?  Chat about it here.

Pictured:  Our weekend recommendation is this fun mini-dress.  Too short for work (for most) but we like the casual vibe to it, as well as the fun print.  We’d wear it out to brunch with friends, or shopping (perhaps paired with leggings or a pair of skinny jeans).  It’s $198 at Piperlime, where the pictured print is an exclusive.  Tucker The Classic Mini Dress

Coffee Break: Pave Flower Pearl Pin

Pave Flower Pearl PinA beautiful brooch is one of our favorite ways to go from desk to dinner because it adds a bit of glamour to even the most basic of outfits. Furthermore, the brooch can be a great investment because it can be used in so many ways — worn in your hair, used to secure a cardigan closed, worn at the waist of a “wrap” dress, or, of course, pinned to your lapel or the straps of the dress. Brooks Brothers has a number of pins on sale right now — we like this basic flower, but all are really cute.  This one was $348, now 174, at Brooks Brothers. Pave Flower Pearl Pin

Thursday’s TPS Report: Graphic Animal Print Skirt

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Ann Taylor Graphic Animal Print SkirtWe’re liking this animal print skirt from Ann Taylor, even though (or perhaps because) the print primarily looks abstract to us.  Bright pastels, we think, would particularly pop against the skirt — we’d wear it with a basic white tee and a bright yellow cardigan.  It’s $88 at Ann Taylor, available in sizes 00 to 18.  Graphic Animal Print Skirt
