Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
Shop by Sport: Sweet Escape Tee - Mulberry
We love this basic top with pintuck details to wear beneath suits or cardigans–it's super soft modal, comes in great colors, has lots of sizes left, and is on sale at Gap's new sister site, Athleta. (Free shipping if you use your Gap/BR card.) The tee is on sale for $30 (was $54). Sweet Escape Tee – Mulberry

  1. I like the idea of this one – but does anyone else have troubles with this type of neckline (and similarly for square-necked tops)? It behaves nicely when you’re sitting up straight or have your shoulders back, but reach across your desk for something (especially with both hands) and suddenly the fabric sags and you’re putting on a show.

  2. I have two questions 1) does anyone know how low the scoop-neck actually is, and 2) does anyone know how the sizing on this runs?

  3. Yes! Too low for work, unless you know for sure you will be huddled in your office all day alone. I have similar T-shirts I got from Ross (for $4 a piece, which seems much more reasonable to me for a T-shirt) and I only wear them when I know it is a writing, researching and phone day. I do love the color and pintucking of this piece.

  4. Meh. Not for work. Too low cut, and the little pleats don’t exactly scream “put me in charge of my own department”.

  5. One question for commenters/Corporette:
I’ve seen a lot of pics/lookbooks with short-sleeved blazers this summer, especially worn with a belt or ones that come with their own belts.
I work in a somewhat relaxed environment in which cardigans, short-sleeved blazers etc. are often ok to wear (and not just suits). Especially in summer, I see many people at work wearing short-sleeved everything and in winter the long-sleeved tops and blazers come out.
Can you recommend any short-sleeved blazers with a nice structure (i.e. stay put and not floppy)? Thanks!

    1. Samantha – I got a short-sleeved blazer several months ago from Ann Taylor Loft, and it had the same fabric and structure as their long-sleeved blazers. Not sure if they’d have them now since fall is approaching, but in the spring they had several.

      1. I think I got the same, belted, black short sleeve blazer from Ann Taylor. I love it and have gotten many compliments on it.

    2. I got a gorgeous short-sleeve blazer that I love last summer @ Anthropologie. It was dark brown, with a wide waistband with beige & ivory floral on the waist.

    3. Second the ATL suggestion. Last time I went in, there were quite a few on the final sale rack. I think they’re probably moving into full or 3/4 sleeve now.

  6. Love the color and pintuck, but I agree that it’s way too low for work. I also have t-shirts like this that are a bit less low that I got for $10 or so at Ross or Target–that’s more my idea of “bargain.”

  7. I got a short-sleeved jacket at Banana Republic, black boucle, little bit of a vintage look, that I have really liked wearing.

  8. Really? For work? It looks like something someone would wear to the gym or yoga. If I am wearing something other than a button-down shirt under a suit, I prefer a simple but high quality cotton tank from Petit Bateau which has a high crew neck in either white with navy and black suits or black with tan suits. This look needs a substantial necklace like large pearls which graces the neckline.

I agree with Delta Sierra; this talk looks very unclassy–both the style and color are wrong.
