Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Sometimes, all you want is a basic cardigan, and this one pretty much fits the bill — the only detailing is some ruching at the neckline. Love the scoopneck and the wide ribbed hem, as well as the colors — the green would be great with black, navy, or gray, as would the magenta; it also comes in black. I like that there are camisoles available in complimentary colors, also (they're $29). The cardigan by itself is $44.50. Premier Shirred Cardigan Seen a great piece you'd like to recommend? I really hate the matching cami – satin trim screams nightgown to me, not office clothing. I haven’t bought anything at the Limited for years – does anyone know if their quality has gone up at all (along with their prices0?
LimitednoLonger
Sorry, but I just have to rant about the Limited.
I used to be a big fan of the Limited. I got 2 suits there this summer for a conference and I thought the suits were of a pretty good quality for a price (less quality than Banana but better than Loft). But, I must absolutely complain about their horrid shipping. I must warn everyone about shopping online there. I ordered the two suits via next day shipping, which was very expensive I might add, and they didn’t arrive for five business days!!! They arrived too late for my conference (like a dummy I went to store and bought them in person and also missed out of the promo code I had used online, plus then had to go to the store to return the late garments, plus never got the cost of shipping back).
You would think that would be enough to turn me off from the Limited… but no… I went back for more…
Just a month ago I ordered a whole bunch of stuff, several sweaters, skirts, over $300 worth of clothes, paid for shipping (no free shipping there). But they forgot to include the business name on the shipping address. As there are several businesses in this one building the package could not be delivered and therefore got returned to sender. But of course, since they use this horrid “SmartPost” in which FedEx hands the package off to USPS, the package showed as being delivered even though it actually went back to the Limited. It. took. forever. to. get. my. money. back. Needless to day. I am now official done with the Limited.
/End Rant

Ugh- I hate SmartPost. I had something similar happen to me. The shipper mixed up my billing and shipping addresses, shipped it to the billing address, which got redirected to the correct PO and just sat there because it needed $5.35 more to make it to my home. Luckily I had gotten another order shipped to me, but I was annoyed that the PO expected me to pay $5.35 for someone else’s mistake.

Hah! Once i ordered something from an online seller who ships from a warehouse about 30 miles south of my city. The package went smartpost and travelled in the most out of the way circular route imagineable through three different states before finally making it to a distribution center about 15 miles from the original mailing location and then, 5 days later, to my house.
Lyssa
I’ve never ordered online (and LNM’s experiences sound frustrating!), but I’ve been really happy with the quality and service at the brick and morter. I’d say the suits that I have from there are generally equal quality (and some better) than my ones from Banana, at a much lower price. Although sometimes it is hard to find non-fussy suits (I don’t care for things like ruffles and bows on suits); it depends on the style of the day.
Lyssa
LNM should have been LNL. I mixed up “no longer” for “no more”
Lawgirl
ugh. i ordered some small things from The Limited last weekend during their big sale ($40 worth ?) ,with free shipping. crossing fingers… wish I hadn’t now…
JessC
I’ve bought stuff from them online multiple times. Never had a single problem.
Grump
I’m not a fan of the big ribbed bit at the bottom. I find it cheapens the look of the cardigan – especially seeing as it’s a work piece. It’s a shame, because I like the neckline and how the camisole sits underneath.
Law-Less
Agreed. Also, I find that wide sections of ribbing like this one get stretched out pretty easily and wind up looking lumpy and frumpy.
Lawgirl
Yawner…
rew
I hate the silk heart shaped thing at the breasts on the camisole underneath it. What is that? It looks sooo trashy.
Louise
You’re seeing just a small part of the satin trim of the camisole in the photo of the cardigan.

Threadjack:
6pm.com is having a “luxury” sale today with some very nice shoes, bags, etc. from designers like Kate Spade and Alexander McQueen at some pretty amazing prices. The Kate Spade shoes in the sale are particularly cute and they’re mostly around $100 a pair. Check it out if you’re in the mood to shop!

Reposting since I put it so late in the other post:
Anyone tried this Merona wrap dress from Target? It’s $15 + free shipping today. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/?asin=B00489DA4C&ref=sc_sk_viewdetails_qi_1_4
Lola
I have several dresses from Target and love them, but not that particular one. (I got a real wrap dress that was suggested on here, and wore it yesterday, in fact.)
angie
This is a lovely basic cardigan and great for the price! Sometimes all you need *is* something basic – quite right, Kat.
For maximum versatility I do find that V-neck cardigans are easier to layer with and that’s probably the reason most of my clients would have left this one on the racks. But it’s pretty with the camisole peeking out :)
Love to win
Wear do you find a v-neck cardigan?
AIMS
I have gotten some great v neck cardigans from Talbots.
Mostly on sale.
newbielawyer
ditto! wearing one today. cashmere cardi for $30 from talbots. wish I’d bought more!
K
I’m wearing one today from LOFT.
Tired of Losing
Is the idea that you wear a normal bra under a camisole like that with the thought that you would never take off the overlayer? It just seems weird to me to wear something over a bra that doesn’t cover the entire bra, even if you have something else over that. Am I out of touch?
v
Yep. (To the idea that you never take off the overlayer, not that you’re out of touch). I think it often comes up for those of us who are busty; most garments would show cleavage on me if I didn’t wear a cami underneath, including ones that it would never occur to you that you’d want to take off during the day.
Forestgirl
I often have overlayers that I would not plan to take off at work because underlayer is too casual or my bra would show. I do it for various reasons: (1) to hide cleavage/make an outfit more opaque, (2) to add interest to the outfit with the part of the underlayer that shows, (3) to keep scratcy material away from my skin, or (4) to add warmth.
Big Firm Lawyer
Love it! Perfect with jeans for casual Friday. However, the acrylic-wool blend sounds like static hair waiting to happen.
surrounded by lawyers
I think you’ve mentioned this problem before–would you be open to a light hairspray to fend off the static? I used to have lots of static problems, regardless of the fabric I wore, but solved them this way.
Law-Less
What kind of hairspray do you use for the static problem?
Lola
Aveda’s Air Control hairspray is great for controlling static.
coco
this is an amazing suggestion! after a few years in a lovely warm humid climate, i am back in the land of static hair (or will be in a few weeks, if i remember the horrible winters here correctly) and i have been dreading it. thanks!
Jess
Looks cute to me!

I prefer this Halogen cardigan from Nordstrom’s which is on sale for $28.90. It looks great on.

I have one too. Love it!
Legally Brunette
I tried this on and returned it, not because I didn’t like it, but I simply cannot figure out how to wear cardigans without looking frumpy.

Love. Nice find.

Does anyone know Brooks Brothers’ policy on price adjustments??
I just ordered a bunch of stuff off their website, maybe 2 weeks ago, and now much of it is marked down much more than before (everything was already on sale). I hate when this happens. Does anyone know what my chances are for getting the price adjusted??
Anonymous
I think you should ask. Can’t hurt.
Anonymous for Now
I love this cardigan, also from Nordstrom:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/3133172?origin=category
Yes, yes, it’s from the Juniors Department, but it doesn’t look “juniors” when it’s on. I don’t really typically shop the juniors department, but it was actually recommended to me by a co-worker who picked a few up for herself when shopping with her daughters. I did have to go up a size, but other than that, I love the scale/way it fits.
MelD
I looked at this at Nordstrom recently and they were SO tiny/shrunken looking that I worried they’d be too short.
Lyssa
I like this a lot, but, and maybe I’m just too cheap here, 45 dollars isn’t really a bargain for something like that in my book. I’d call that a full price (which, for me, usually is more of a splurge- I rarely buy clothes not on sale/coupon). Am I just being too cheap?
CC
I wouldn’t pay that for the limited either, but the limited has great sales. They always give out “virtual dollar coupons” which are 25 off 50 dollars, and almost always have 30% or 40% off different categories. A few weeks ago I got burgundy tights, a pair of earrings, a deep red wrap dress and a black wool sheath dress for $70
MelD
I tried this on in a different color for $19.99. I found that the arm holes were rather large, but the sweater itself seemed pretty nice. I haven’t been impressed with The Limited for years, but there is some decent stuff there right now.
luluaj
I agree re the Limited. I also think it’s not really a bargain if something is cheap and it looks cheap (like this sweater).
Lyssa
FWIW, I really don’t think that it looks cheap (although it’s always hard to tell in a picture) and I’ve been pretty happy with the quality of most things from The Limited. I was just commenting on what I would pay for a basic cardigan in general. I would call this a decent price, though probably more than I would pay unless I really, really wanted or needed it (or, even better, had a coupon). For a cardigan, I really wouldn’t call it a bargain until you get below $30.
Also, $29 for a cami sounds outrageous to me. But hey, I’m both cheap and didn’t get a biglaw job. :)
Parisienne
It’s a really pretty sweater, but I would worry about the acrylic/wool blend. I would wear the sweater buttoned up to show off the pretty neckline to best advantage.

I purchased this cardigan in black, thinking it would be a good basic. I’m going to have to return it—it was very ill-fitting, with the top being very loose, the bottom ribbed part too fitted, the arms too long (and I have long arms). Don’t buy if you have a “straight” figure.
