Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
As a card-carrying member of The Spice Girls Generation (people who grew up with the internet, but also retain childhood memories that predate it), I have a special place in my heart for Victoria Beckham’s clothing line. The kelly green color, figure-flattering shape, and pocket details are all just stunning. If you’re looking to Spice Up Your Life, this dress is everything you Wannabe.
The dress is $990 at Saks Fifth Avenue and comes in UK sizes 4–14.
A few more affordable options are from Hugo Boss ($111.99 on sale; sizes 2–12), a similar dress from Nordstrom ($119; sizes XXS–XXL), and this customizable dress at eShakti ($64.95; up to 6X).

Camping
Two camping related questions- I’m taking the kids on a three night camping trip to Shenandoah.
1) they each have hiking shoes, regular running shoes, Keen water shoes and Crocs- which two should I bring?
2) ideas or tips for dealing with light rain? What to pack? Activities to do? If it’s pours heavily constantly I might bag it and come home, but a few intermittent showers I think I can cope.
3) any other ideas for Shenandoah with kids welcome!

I’d do running shoes and crocs (for when you’re in camp). They are unlikely to encounter terrain that need more than running shoes and if they get wet, will dry to damp quickly. Chances are, between sweat, humidity and rain, EVERYTHING will be damp. Wear light, wicking t-shirt (old race shirts are perfect for this), running shorts, and synthetic socks (something like Balega hidden dry or similar). Pack sleeping clothes in their own ziploc bag and only wear them to sleep – makes it a lot more comfortable than going to bed damp.
Light rain is great for hiking in the summer – keeps things cool, but can get slippery, so watch your step.
Wear all the bug spray, and not the expensive organic stuff. You want the Wal-Mart, nasty, greasy DEET.

Hiking shoes, running shoes, and flip-flops if they will use the showers. Do not let them wear any type of sandal or open shoe anywhere except in the shower. The campsites are grassy and full of ticks.
For intermittent light rain, a canopy that goes over the picnic table is useful. Plastic playing cards, Bananagrams, and other water-resistant portable games are a good way to pass the time.

This seems alarmist. Frequent tick checks, but let the kids wear sandals!

Lol, what? No, you do not wear sandals in the grass in Lyme country! Have you ever been to Shenandoah? I have never been anywhere with so many ticks.
Anonymous
Haven’t you heard of Lyme disease?!

Hiking shoes and Crocs. Crocs will be easy to slip on and off for last-minute bathroom runs, etc. Hiking shoes, obvious.
Rain = ipad in the tent TBH.

Old Rag in Shenandoah is the most fun hike I’ve ever done. Lots of rock scrambling, but not exposed up the side of a mountain. You walk around a corner of the trail and then come to a little rocky bit that you have to figure out how to get up—like a little puzzle. Depends on how old your kids are, but a nice thing is that if you slide on a bit of the rock scrambling, you won’t go down far.

We considered doing Old Rag with our kid but decided against it after reading that kids and shorter people can have a hard time with the rock scramble. We are waiting until she’s taller.
OP
me and my husband have 2-3 weeks of both working from home before a big cross country move after which we’ll basically never work from home together again. Any ideas for how to capitalize on making the most of this time? For example, I’m considering getting an Airbnb somewhere fun to wfh together or any other tips!

I don’t think you need to make the most of it so much as endure it. Boy, do I envy you. But yes, WF vacation rental would be fun.
Signed, my husband and I were both told to WFH forever

Sure, this would be a great time to check out a remote destination and not have to take PTO… but you can also just take vacations going forward.
Have you all been WFH together for the last two years? Is there anything you’ll particularly miss about it or that you’ve especially enjoyed? If so, I’d say make a point of doing those things.
Personally, I think WFH while my spouse is there stinks. We have no private spaces to take calls, so we’re just shouting over each other all day while frantically trying not to overhear each other’s employers confidential information. Good riddance to two-spouse-WFH!

Have sex during your lunch breaks! ;)

I really enjoy having lunch with my husband when we are both WFH. We both make our lunches in the kitchen at the same time, and chat about the morning. Then we eat on the couch watching an episode of something short and light like Bob’s Burgers or Futurama. Just that little time together is a nice connection and can turn a frustrating work day into a better day by dividing it up and giving me a true break.

I need new glasses. What does a 42-year-old pick out that looks modern but not dumb? I cannot even with all these glasses styles I’m seeing that resemble things I wore in the third grade (clear frames, for example). My style is on the classic side. The good news is that I wear contacts for daily use. I usually use my glasses after I get home from work and as a backup if I’m having other eye issues.

I really like Oliver Peoples frames.

Dumb means unable to speak, why would new glasses affect that?
