This crossbody caught my eye at the Coach Outlet (although I have no idea how; it isn't one of my usual stomping grounds). I love the blue metallic chain, and like the slim, sleek bag in general.
The round coin case isn't exactly my favorite, but it is different — and detachable if it's also not your favorite.
The bag comes in the black version pictured, as well as a dark evergreen, and a rainbow logo'd version for Pride. (Also, shoutout to the company for styling the bag on a male model!)
The bag is $159 at the Coach Outlet and Premium Outlets. You can also get 15% off everything for a limited time, so it comes down even more. (They list the “comparable value” at $398, for whatever that's worth.)

Any good books or maybe YouTube videos for teaching cursive (or at least enough cursive to make a signature of your name for signing documents)? Maybe we are going backwards to just marking an X on a document to memorialize your assent to it?
Anonymous
Learning to Write Without Tears has the best stuff. My son’s Catholic school taught the kids — it’s supposed to actually be easier if you have some fine motor delays.
Anon
Wow — I was taught cursive with a slight forward slant and got points off for being vertical. Now printing looks as vertical as cursive?
Nesprin
Can I ask why? My signature is in print and it’s fine.
Anon
I didn’t realize signatures could be in print.
anon
Mine is a scribble. Zero link of it to my name, but I’m consistent. Stems from once being a teacher who initialed bathroom and hall passes all day, ‘err day, and it just kind of stuck/morphed to what it’s consistently been for 15ish years.
If a scribble flies, so to should print, I’d think?
Anon
My young adult/ college aged son only writes print and his signature is in print. He’s somewhat embarrassed about it, but the print signature seems to be working for him so far. It came up again recently when he had to sign paperwork for his internship, which sailed through with no problem.
Anon
This is me: fine, but embarrassed. I was never taught and I want to adult better (to me; it’s NBD how you sign things, but I want to do better at it now that I have official things to “sign”).
Nesprin
As long as your signature is recognizably consistent and yours, it’s fine.
Anon
Yea, a print signature can be just as legally binding as a cursive one. There is no legal requirement for a signature to be in a specific handwriting. That’s not what makes a signature legally binding.
Anon
Oops for anon @ 2:57
AIMS
I always thought a signature should be at least somewhat hard to fake. Seems much easier to fake if you print your name vs. signing, even if -or maybe esp if – the signature is a weird scribble.
Anonymous
I’m going to admit that I immediately judge print signatures very negatively. I am sure it isn’t fair, and I try to check myself, but a print signature immediately communicates a lot of bad things to me.
Anon
Keep checking yourself. Cursive isn’t taught anymore, so this is going to be increasingly common.
Anon
Private / catholic schools still teach it
Anon
Yes it is. Not everywhere maybe, but it’s still taught where I live.
Anon
So only kids who went to private/catholic schools will be acceptable to @4:50? Good to know.
Anonymous
Our 3rd graders in public school in MA did cursive this year. It was sort of stuffed in as an extra but it was per the request of both kids and parents.
They aren’t learning it with the rigor that my catholic school self did but my daughter can at least read cursive, which I believe was the goal. She can also write her name in cursive but it’s an easy one and she’s been doing that since Kindy ;)
Anon
Wtf?
Senior Attorney
What on earth? And how often do you even see a signature in a context where your judgment of the person would even matter?
Anonymous
I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for, but I’ve been following annerobincallig on instagram and she’s doing posts showing casual handwriting signature ideas for each letter of the alphabet. I think she just got to P today.
Anon
I just scribble something, it doesn’t look like my actual name at all. I thought that was normal.
Anonymous
Yeah, my first initials are recognizable but the rest is a blur.
Senior Attorney
Same here, to the point that when I changed my name after my divorce, I didn’t bother to change my signature!
Anon
My standard written signature is pretty consistent, but whatever I scribble on those touchpads where I’m supposed to sign that I understand HIPAA or whatever at the doctor’s office, or signing for a charge at a store … may as well be a 3 year old signing it.
And my docusign/electronic signature is whatever format they came up with and bears no resemblance to my physical signature.
I think printed sigs are fine as long as they are reasonably consistent, and per the above examples, won’t be used for long anyway.
Cat
Same, lol. You can get my first initial and last initial but the rest is dr Rx level scribble.
Anon
I got an Instagram ad recently for a company that will graphic design a signature for you. I was intrigued.
Anon
IDK if this is a perimenopause / menopause thing or just an aging thing? I never used to nap. I could sleep 3+ hours and wake in almost a stupor (and then wreck my sleep for the next night) or just power through the tiredness. Now, I find that at times I need even just a 30-minute nap (but generally no more than an hour nap), like literally need it, system is powering down like it or not; and then I’m not just fine, but truly restored after. It’s always an after-lunch thing (but not like Thanksgiving syndrome — I eat around 11 usually and it’s a real meal but not over-stuffing me and the nap feeling when it comes on is b/w 1 and 3, never morning and never later in the day). Nothing else in my life has changed but the march of time; I am a regular blood donor so very scrupulous about making sure I get adequate iron.
What gives?!
Anonymous
Have you had Covid recently? I had this in 2020 and saw a zillion doctors, including a cardiologist, and all of the tests were fine. Mention it to your doctor, but it may just be a long Covid symptom. Mine went away eventually (thankfully).
Anon
Yeah, this sounds like when I was recovering from mono.
Anon
OP — nope. Although I did nap after my COVID shots (and shingles shots). Maybe I am just getting old and tired?
Anonymous
How long did it take to go away? I am trying to figure out if some symptoms are long Covid or something else.
Anonymous
for my long covid, about 9-12 months.
Vicky Austin
What are you eating for lunch? I find that if I don’t have protein midday, I absolutely drag for half of the afternoon (necessitating the walk of shame to get a Coke from the office fridge).
Anon
Is it possible your blood sugar is going a bit high after lunch? (I’m in USA where they say 1/3 adults has some kind of blood glucose issue, so it’s a pretty common thing to test for here.)
Anon
I am a full-food high fat high protein person (so black bean burrito with liberal guac and cheese and no rice or chips). I eat full-fat yogurt for breakfast (so also high sugar, probably the most of any meal). After dinner (which tends to be small), it’s not an issue. Usually I have a mid-morning snack of dried fruit. Per recent bloodwork, fasting blood sugar is fine.
Anon
I think this can be an aging thing, and hormones are probably involved. I started being able to micronap in my 30s and micro naps don’t leave me feeling groggy the way regular naps do (I assume because you don’t get into very deep sleep?)
Anon
Maybe you’re just tired. Do you sleep enough at night?
Anon
I had this happen in both of my pregnancies–between 1pm and 3pm I fell asleep for a short nap almost every day. If I really had to push through, I could, but it took significant effort and I couldn’t do it multiple days in a row. (Yes, I worked. I would hide in my car or shut my office door and take a 30-minute napping lunch break).
Anon
Get your A1C, Thyroid, iron and Vitamin D checked. I just could not be awake for a full day when I was post-Covid, and I thought it was that, but it was thyroid and vitamin D/iron deficiencies.

Help me find a purse that works for an upcoming vacation! Criteria: (1) lightweight (i.e. nylon or simple leather); (2) holds wallet, keys, phone, reusable water bottle, epipen and umbrella; (3) can be worn over the shoulder (i.e. doesn’t have to be crossbody); (4) Price $100-350. I am totally striking out.

small umbrella or regular size umbrella? why do you want it over the shoulder? (backpack or crossbody would be better for lots of walking, but if you want it to look nice at a restaurant then that’s something else).
OP Anon
Some responses — and thanks so much! – Small umbrella. I don’t like how crossbody smushes my b**bs. Baggalini is not my style but the Baggu looks promising.

I like the Baggu crescent bag for that.

Baggallini is what immediately came to mind. They usually have a wide variety of nylon travel purses/bags.

I also thought of MZ Wallace, but I’d look at their Bowery. Or the Crosby is convertible, too.
Also take a look at LeSportsac – their Everyday bag is a longtime classic, but they have others. Can be crossbody or shoulder.

MZ Wallace is has a several of bags that meet this criteria. The Small Sutton and the Crosby Bucket Bag come to mind. The Downtown Crosby would probably work too.

There are some good podcasts — Ready for Retirement, Retirement Answer Man, and Retirement Planning with Andy Panko. Retirement Planning just went on hiatus, and he has a monthly newsletter. The Wade Pfau book Retirement Planning Guidebook Navigating the Important Decisions… is excellent.
A forum like Bogleheads can answer one off questions, but won’t really help assessing income streams, timing, and taxes. The Retirement Answer Man is a better bet using just his free resources and “pie cake” method.

Y’all – I just did The Thing. A number of weeks back I posted here to see if I should accept an invite to be on an industry panel. I felt like I was the least qualified and perhaps just the token woman (male dominated industry, and I’m < 12 months in this new role).
Well it was this morning and I honestly think I crushed it. I've had a few pings since the event from acquaintances saying that I was the most interesting speaker, I really knew my stuff, had the most tangible examples/commentary vs just vague statements about the state of our industry's market, and so on.
It was the confidence boost I really needed at this moment in time when I feel like I'm otherwise just trying to compete with the best of them (and often failing). Thanks for the encouragement and to anyone else wondering if you should take the professional risk: DO THE THING.

What radio stations do you listen to for national/international news when NPR is not available?
I live in a red county in a very blue state. In the penultimate election, we elected a D congressperson for the first time in many decades. Now we are back to an R congressional representative. Cities within our county vary in their redness or purpleness. My city is purple (it is also the most diverse and most educated population in our county). I have an office to which I need to drive regularly now in a very red city in our county (much less diverse, I don’t know about the educational levels). I usually listen to one of three local NPR affiliates in my part of the county. I can’t get any of them, or any other NPR affiliate, in the area of the office. I also see many more trucks with American flags and anti-Obama and anti-HRC stickers than I am used to near the office. Have not seen anything explicitly antisemitic, but I have seen yellow “Don’t Tread on Me” flags.
I can get top 40 pop radio stations and/or AM local news and traffic near the office. But I don’t know how to listen to news. Any suggestions?
Anon
Just stream the radio stations you like via your phone/alexa device/computer.
I listen to NPR stations in NYC/Chicago/Boston/SF intermittently, also BBC stations by streaming.
Anon
+1 I can stream my NPR affiliate anywhere via my phone.
Z
Yes! I live in Michigan, I have the Michigan Radio app, which has a livestream going 24/7. You can also just stream from their website on a web browser. Your local affiliate probably does the same.
Nesprin
NPR has most of their programming in podcast format if you’re willing to download.
JTM
I’d just stream the local NPR station – I think most of them now have the ability to stream from their website, and some have apps that allow you to stream.
Anon
For national and international news, I prefer podcasts over radio stations because no stations in my area carry this type of news during my commute times. I follow a few different podcasts from NPR and BBC.
Gail the Goldfish
You can get podcasts of NPR shows (Marketplace is my fav), or if you’re willing to spring for Sirius XM radio, it’s totally worth it if you spend a lot of time in the car and has an NPR station.

Related to the nap post above, I had COVID starting May 25 (first-timer), and while I’m not napping a lot, I do feel tired all the time. But not necessarily sleepy tired, more like physically tired. If any of you have experienced this, did it eventually subside, or were there any tricks that helped?
I had to go on a long-planned girls trip last week and while I wasn’t as worried about catching COVID as I was before, I was really slowing everyone down!
Anonymous
I’m the one who thought I had long Covid in 2020. I think I caught it in Feb. 2020 (was sick for about 6-8 weeks and antibiotics didn’t help, but it was before tests were a thing), and wasn’t feeling right until around January. Not sure if that was pandemic panic or long covid.
I’ve seen some stuff that eating high protein diets helps with long covid symptoms but I don’t have a good source for that. I was coincidentally changing my diet to that at the same time.
Anonymous
I had Covid for the first time over Memorial Day weekend in 2022 and probably didn’t feel 100% until late July. Not sick- just more tired than usual. I’d had a very mild case and thought I was back to normal within 5 days, but the last bit of tiredness lingered. It’s only been a month for you so don’t despair that this is permanent.
Anon
It has barely been a month, so I wouldn’t worry yet. I’ve had Covid twice and the first time my fatigue lingered for a month and a half, the second time for two weeks. I basically felt like my battery started at 40%, but I was otherwise fine. And then it went away.
OP
Thanks all. The idea of the fatigue spontaneously going away has me holding out hope for my late summer vacation. If we were to go this week, it would be such a waste…
Anon
I have post viral fatigue syndrome and you need to rest as much as possible. Cut out exercise for a while, get as many naps as you can and take lots of Vitamin B plus a good all-round multivitamin. Avoid alcohol, sugar and adopt a low carb diet.

I have a fourth and final interview later this week for a job I really, really want. The interviewers are 4+ levels above the role I’m applying for; I’ve already met with the direct and other-level supervisors in earlier interviews. Any tips/advice on what to expect at this stage? I thoroughly prepared on skills and behavioral questions for the earlier interviews, but I don’t know what else may come up and want to make sure I’m not missing anything. Appreciate any thoughts!
Anon
Tell them you want the job as directly as you can. As an interviewer, I am always happy to hear this, especially at the final interview stage.
Toni Placetti
Yes, do not be coy. Tell them you will take the job on the spot since it is everything you have been looking for–good job; nice people; decent pay; comfortable work environment— who can ask for anything more? Since only a fool would turn them down, youre no fool, so I think you will nail it! Good luck.
Anon
“Tell them you will take the job on the spot since it is everything you have been looking for”
Well this is just a bad idea unless you know everything about compensation already and know that there’s room for negotiation.
Anonymous
Agreed. You can tell them that you are very excited about this opportunity but you want time to thoroughly think about the compensation package. I’ve had people do this all the time and it’s fine. Don’t string them out though – set a time to immediately get back to them if there is anything you want to negotiate.
Anon
Tell them you are very keen but you’ve also had another approach so you’d like to know their timeframe for making a decision.
Anon
smart
Anon
Good grief, take none of this advice except express enthusiasm. For senior level interviews, we are looking for someone engaged and enthusiastic. We are not involved in hiring timelines and dislike fake pressure – that plays very poorly. Express interest in the company, try to get a sense of the bigger picture and show how you’re willing to step up and contribute.

Cloth napkins should be fine as long the thing inside fits – my grandma was amazing at furoshiki type wrapping and would do it with scrap fabric she had left from sewing projects.

How long should I wait for my doctor to write a prior authorization letter for Ozempic? (When should I nag her and how will I know it’s been submitted?) Or – has anyone looked into the med spa thing? Are they for real?
Anon
What did you mean? Did you see her for an appointment, and she said she would write the letter/do the PA? Did both your pharmacy and insurance company say it hasn’t been received yet? How long have you been waiting?
Mistakes happen everywhere, so it could be held up anywhere.
If you are sure a letter hasn’t been sent/received in a week, just call or send a message/mychart to the doctor and ask her if she has submitted it yet. Ask the nurse/someone to call you and let you know the status, and when to expect it.
I mean, if she said she was going to, she’s not going to lie to you. And honestly, it probably is not the doctor who didn’t do it, but possibly a nurse or other person in the clinic who coordinates these things.
Don’t go see another doctor to just get a letter.
Anonymous
I saw her 6/2, but only got my blood tests done on 6/13. I called insurance last week and they said there was no PA in the system.
Anonymous
IME if the doctor does not put in the authorization the same day as the appointment they are never going to do it unless you follow up.
Anon
Sounds like the drug couldn’t be ordered until after the blood tests were done. Also, every insurance is different, not every plan requires the same prior authorizations for the same drugs. So most doctors wont know it is required until someone reaches out and tells them.
After you get the labs done, you call/message the doctor to let them know they are done to discuss them. Bonus if your doctor contacts you with the results to discuss, but that is not always done with some doctors unless there is something abnormal. So always ask your doctors when they order the labs how you will find out the results.
Then if the doctor says they will send in a new script, I always call the pharmacy to make sure they got it, that it’s correct, and to make sure there aren’t any issues. If there is a prior authorization required, call the doctor’s office back to tell them. Never rely upon the pharmacy to successfully get the prior authorization submitted on their own. You have to do the leg work.
Yes, it shouldn’t be so complicated. But it often is. So you have to be on top of things.
anon
Call immediately. They are usually just canned and take zero time to submit. Might take a day or two for processing on the insurance end, in my experience, but the doc should be able to release it pretty darn quickly.
Anon
This sounds more like “fell off the to do list” than “hasn’t made it to this point on the to do list” to me.
Anonymous
Exactly. You need to call or send a message through the patient portal.
Anon
Members of my family are going through so much medical-system ineptitude right now. One family member was diagnosed with cancer as a result of a routine colonoscopy. They were referred to an oncologist who was supposed to contact them to schedule an appointment. Family member kept calling and calling and no calls were returned – they finally had to show up in person at the office and demand to speak to the scheduler, who then told them the oncologist was on indefinite leave of absence so would not be available for appointments. I hate to think how long some people would wait, believing in good faith that someone would eventually call them.
You have to be the squeaky wheel for your own care. It’s the only way. So in this particular case, follow up again and again and again, and they’ll eventually do it so they don’t have to hear from you again!
oh my
That’s just awful.
Anon
Um, I think you can expect that an adult will be able to figure out what to do if they never hear back from the specialist. Just like your family member did.
Anon
I think there are a great number of people who just trust the system. I’ve met many of them while working in a related field.
PJ
You have to follow up. The last year it seems like everyone is getting worse at their jobs. From checking takeout orders, to making sure doctors call in what they need to. So many times.
oh my
Well, most doctors aren’t getting worse at their jobs. It’s a time/money/systems issue. Not enough time, not enough people covering, people dropping the ball on insurance end too….
So yes – you as the patient have to vigilant. It stinks but it is what it is.
It is the insurance companies you should be blaming in general, for making everything so unwieldy. They do it of course, to save money. To get you to give up and not get the medicine.
PJ
Ok the doctors offices are getting worse at connecting patients with care.

so only people who can afford to not work don’t want to work. got it.
Anonymous
I think this is a little bit of a different situation—the insurance company is requiring a prior authorization which itself requires the result of lab work, so this is just a lot more administrative paperwork for a prescription than normal and I don’t necessarily think it is anyone’s fault (except maybe the insurance company) that it is taking a longer time than normal. Physicians routinely see 25+ patients a day.

Tips for being a gluten free office? A co-worker (I’m her manager) recently went through several rounds of testing and received a Celiac diagnosis. I want to be supportive (and know the first thing to do is to ask her), but we try to have food/snacks available. My first thought is to never assume that someone who brings something knows the correct protocols for this (i.e. when someone says they baked something gluten free…they likely were still uneducated and have cross contaminated something!). Any other helpful hints?
oh my
What?!? You are going to force your entire office to be gluten free for one employee?
Please don’t do that.
Please do not force ?employees who spend their own time/money to bring something in to be gluten free. No person with Celiac can trust anything they don’t make themselves anyway!
Just ask the affected employee if there is something they would like to keep stocked that they feel comfortable eating and leave it to THEM to decide if they want to tell people about their medical problems! Do not advertise this at all.
Sunshine
I agree with the conclusions from Oh My, but not the tone.
I was diagnosed with Celiac over a decade ago. With the exception of my mom, I don’t trust foods prepared by others. Many people equate no gluten containing ingredients with gluten free. Unfortunately for me, the results of eating things in those categories is not the same despite people being well intentioned.
If your coworkers like to bring in food that they make at home, then the Celiac coworker can decide for herself whether she wants to eat the foods. Please don’t ask people to only make foods without gluten; your Celiac coworker will be fine being in the same room as freshly baked bread or something (which I understand is not true for people with nut allergies – but I don’t know that for a fact). If your office keeps snacks on hand, please ask her if there are any specific snacks she would like to have stocked – doing this is the extent of your responsibility.
Thank you for being thoughtful of her. Your effort is appreciated.
Anonymous
This isn’t the same, but for my food allergic daughter we taught never eat unlabeled food. No one’s home cooking is okay. No treats from home or bake sale. Ever. This isn’t a place to assume good intentions.
I had a celiac coworker and she didn’t snack on anyone else’s homemade goods.
If you want to understand what types of prepackaged snacks she would like on hand if your office has off-limits-to-her snacks, ask her. That seems safest.

You don’t need to make a gluten free office and asking for gluten free home baked goods is a terrible idea- most home kitchens could not be setup to prevent cross contamination.
Make sure that there’s something that your employee can eat from available snacks + at work lunches, even if you have to cater in from a different spot, give employee planned menus ahead of time for her to read herself, leave the packaging on packaged foods so celiac employee can check that the thing is actually gluten free and that’s it.

Ask your coworker what kind of packaged snacks she likes, if any. You could have a basket of gluten free single or small serving snacks that she can dip into whenever everybody else has homemade cakes or whatever people bring. It’s very lonely to never be able to join in with meals or breaks. Don’t buy big packs, she might not know yet what she enjoys, and don’t get anything without a seal and an ingredients list on the packet.
If you keep savory snacks like pot noodles for protein bars for others, ask her what kind of savory works for her. Maybe she’d like some olive pouches, or some almonds. If you keep things like dressings, hummus or dips, check that they truly are gluten free – it’s amazing what companies put cheap fillers into instead of real ingredients. Also – fruits and veggie trays are gluten free and not divisive.
Your main effort should be for catering and restaurant situations, though. It’s miserable to be the person that never gets a real meal at mandatory work events. Check whether the caterers do celiac level gluten free, find restaurants for team outings that she can trust before you decide where to go, at least if it’s a mandatory event.
If you find that well-meaning people bring something they say is gluten free, but might very well be cross contaminated, pay attention to whether people try to bully her to eat something, and stop them if they do.

How often are people in your office bringing in baked goods?? This isn’t really a thing anymore post Covid in my world.
I am GF but not celiac. If you stock snacks get some gf crackers or pretzels but otherwise don’t worry about this at all. There is absolutely no need for gluten to be banned unless she has been told cross contamination risks are that high for here…and even then banning likely isn’t the answer

Do not do this.

Don’t be a gluten free office. A Celiac person knows that they should not trust others to follow strict decontamination procedures. You can’t force your employees to cut a staple ingredient out of their diet or follow strict decontamination procedures.
FWIW I have IBS-D and rely heavily on wheat products. A lot of gluten free foods are made with high fiber substitutes that make me sick. If I get a doctor’s note for my legal disability then who wins, me or the Celiac person? Don’t go down this road.

Agree. You will also get people who are vegetarian or kosher for religious reasons and then you’re a) making a gluten-free office but not a kosher/vegetarian office, which is gross, and b) putting the gluten-free limitation on people who already have limited diets is terrible.

I have a GF employee. When meals are catered I get her input on what restaurants’ GF options are safe and order from those restaurants. I do not dictate what people can bring in to share.
Omsom kits
Someone on this s!te recommended buying Omsom sauces/noodles/kits as a tasty food gift. They look great. Wondering … if I was giving them to someone as a gift to try, if there were any you recommended or some sort of combo to start with to get a sense of their stuff?
Thanks!

FWIW, I tried some of these at the recommendation of this site and didn’t like them – too spicy for my palate. (I have a boring palate, so YMMV).

I gave the big set to my daughter, who likes to cook and loves many types of Asian food. I thought she would love them, but they really have not sparked her interest. I don’t think she has tried a single one, much to my disappointment.

I’m sorry to hear that, as my gift recipient also likes to cook/loves Asian flavors.
I wonder if they are more complicated to prep….
Did you ever try them yourself?

I tried the East Asian and Southeast Asian sauce sets and I found the spice level lacking a bit, plus the flavoring not as in depth as I’d hoped for their recommended serving sizes and recipes.
I’m East Asian though, so I already have all the base condiments in my kitchen that Omsom combines into one packet.

Just chiming in to say I liked the sauces! And some of them are not spicy at all — even the one called “Spicy Bulgogi” was not very spicy to me. I like the Lemongrass BBQ on salmon, and the Bulgogi on ground turkey or pork in a stir fry.

I don’t know what kind you are looking for, but I got these hard-backed ones at Amazon lately and really like them because I can just wipe them off: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072N3MLKY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I really like the ones at world market.

Shopping help? I’m looking for a white, short sleeved crop top to wear for family photos with high waist jeans. Budget is under $100. Prefer cotton or linen, not bustier style but I’m open to pretty much anything else.

I have this top from AYR and I love it.

How tall are you? If you are 5’3” or under and up to 125 lbs., try the J. Crew lettuce top in size xl in girls. The fit is exactly right.

Check out Abercrombie. I swear I’m not getting paid to plug them so often here but their t-shirts are nearly all cropped.
