The name of this product sounds lovely – “cozy rib tights.” Sign me up! I've always been a fan of tights with small patterns — I think they're a bit like perfume, something you should only notice if you're very very close to someone.

These cozy rib tights from Spanx look great. They're $38 at Nordstrom.

  1. Sweater tights are fine. But I hate ribbed sweaters and sweater dresses – they’re so much more firm fitting and the lines stretch across my curves in a way I just don’t like. Anyone have a solid source for sweaters or sweater dresses in a 2024/trendy shape or color that are not ribbed? Budget <$150/item.

    1. would second this request! I love the idea of a sweater dress, but I feel like they always make me look lumpy in places I was never previously self conscious about. Do fit and flare sweater dresses exist?

      1. Oooh, I know I just saw one, somewhere… need to check my usual spots and see if I can find it again.

        1. Found it – Talbots – merino wool pleated sweater dress. Looks more A-line than fit-and-flare, but seems like it would skim pretty well over the lower body.

      2. They are rare, but I found one a couple of years ago at WHBM that I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of.

      3. Nic and Zoe sometimes makes them! I am tall and almost all leg, a fuller hourglass shape and I figured out sweater dresses, despite seemingly being perfect, are not for me. They’re never long enough, and they feel both like not enough dress and too much at the same time somehow. I sympathize is what I’m saying :P

    2. I’ve found that sweater dresses need to be made of very nice material (eg cashmere) in order to properly skim over the body.

      YMMV.

    3. I have an excellent one from Club Monaco. I think cheaper sweater dresses tend to be made from thinner, clingier knits. They’re generally not worth it.

    4. I have an hourglass shape with a big bust, and have found that ribbed sweater material is terrible on my shape. I think it’s a bit like drapey fronts – they can make an illusion of more curves or a smaller waist, but if you already have the shape it disappears in excess fabric.

    5. Woolen knit dresses really need to be worn with a slip. Otherwise they cling in all the wrong ways.

  2. Quince’s Mongolian Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater Dress looks relaxed and comfy and is in your price range.

    1. How have you found Quince? They’re following me around instagram and I’m curious but skeptical.

      1. Not great. I would not expect a cashmere sweater to last more than a season or two.

      2. Not OP but I tried them recently and liked the pants, underwear & piece of jewelry I ordered. The underwear ran large compared to the pants but were easy to exchange.

      3. The silk, linen, most sweaters, blazers, bedding, suitcase, and jewelry is great. I haven’t had luck with the pants or shoes.

  3. Does anyone have a good recipe for baked oats? Bonus if there’s protein or fiber like chia in there. Thanks!

    1. I’ve found “breakfast cookie” recipes work well for this but don’t have a specific one

    2. I’ve been making the Slender Kitchen pumpkin baked oats and adding an unflavored protein powder to up the protein a bit.

      1. Do you mind sharing the unflavored protein powder you use? I bought a vanilla protein powder and it has an awful aftertaste.

  4. Oooh, good news, Poshmark is moving away from their new (and unpopular) fee structure.

    1. I just got that email, but I guess I haven’t bought anything from Poshmark in a while because I didn’t even know what the new fee structure was!

  5. thoughts on topical minoxidil for middle aged woman hair shedding/ loss? any reason to talk to a doctor (what kind) or just buy from drug store?

    1. It worked well for me, but I ended up switching to oral minoxidil because I disliked having to apply the solution every night. It made my scalp itch, was messy, harder to travel with. The minoxidil pill is much, much cheaper (I pay about $5/month) and has minimal side effects because the dosage is so low. My PCP was happy to prescribe it for me.

If you decide to go for topical, buy the men’s formulation. It’s a higher concentration, but you can dilute it with alcohol to make it the same strength as the women’s formulation. That will effectively cut the price in half.

      1. good to know. i read that the oral minoxidil can cause facial hair growth… i’ve paid a bajillions dollars and spent lots of hours on laser, would hate to mess with that… did you find that to be true?

        1. Didn’t find that to be true. I’m fairly hairy, but I haven’t noticed any accelerated growth on my face. I pluck some chin hairs every few weeks, but that’s not new. And I have one of those little shavers for my upper lip, but again, no change with oral minoxidil.

          1. I have found this to be true, but tweeze. I’ll accept this since my hair looks a thousand times better.

      2. I’m using the liquid one right now and find it a pain for all the same reasons. My derm had warned me off oral minoxidil because said it caused hair growth other places – honestly if its just arms and legs I can deal with that but facial would be a problem.

    2. PLITK, Kat. My reply about Poshmark appears (to me, at least) to have replaced this post about hair loss treatments.

  6. Is this an age thing, and if so, is there anything I can do about it? I’m starting to have some pain in the joints of my fingers, primarily my right thumb and index finger. Arthritis runs in my family, but I’m not sure if that’s what I’m experiencing. Some of my joints (all over, not just my fingers) naturally hyperextend; on every finger and my thumbs, the knuckle closest to my fingertip bends backwards to almost 90 degrees with little pressure. When I push a button, for example, it’s harder to keep my finger straight than to let it fall backwards. I have very pronounced hitchhiker’s thumbs. The inside of the middle knuckle on my thumb has started to hurt when hyperextended. Is this a ligament thing or is it the beginning of arthritis? Is there a supplement or some exercise I can do? I’m 40, if it matters. Thanks!

        1. So many hand, finger and wrist problems ((ok, neck and spine, too) are tech-use related. It’s your right hand and you hold your phone in your right hand and type with your right thumb? There is likely a connection.

          1. +1 I had aches that felt like arthritis. I took a week off work and devices and it helped.

      1. This right here. I notice if I’ve had some heavy scrolling days, my right thumb hurts a lot.

    1. I have osteoarthritis in both thumbs and my big toes. Hate it, but here we are. I too am hyper flexible—not sure if one begets the other. In my instance my mother also had arthritis, and wasn’t super flexible so there’s a sample of 1. My second thumb joint is starting to be disfigured.
I’ve heard collagen can help with arthritis pain, not sure it’s done anything. I’ve also heard about chondrointrin (so?) and glucosamine, never tried them.

    2. I spent a long time thinking I had sore finger joints due to something I was eating (I was so sure it was gluten) but actually it was rheumatoid arthritis. Bring it up to your doctor.

      1. Similar situation. I thought my hands were hurting because of heavy strength training. Nope, RA. It’s worth ruling it out.

    3. I think it may be time to check in with at least your PCP, and maybe a Rheumatologist. A basic xray of your hands can be helpful, and a rheumatologist who can appreciate your family history should probably give input.

I started having increased joint pain in my hands/feet. I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune disorders, and they suspect I am developing rheumatoid arthritis too.

Also your hyperextensibility means you need to be a bit careful about protecting your joints. Read about Ehlers Danlos. You may need to check in with a PT or OT if you are developing complications from that to learn how to protect yourself long term.

    4. I had this and wasn’t sure if it was carpal tunnel, or if I”d pulled something, or what — it was arthritis. I got a cortisone shot (they only last six months) and after that I kind of forgot about it because I have a happy habit of forgetting about things once I’m past the initial worry about WTF it is.

If you go to your doc make sure they don’t surprise you with the X-rays — last one I had (at my podiatrist who is covered, at her office where I am covered) was not covered because it said I had gone to a different medical facility, which apparently exists inside her office.

They also make arthritis gloves you can wear to bed – I haven’t liked them much yet but maybe later. Oh there’s also an OTC cream you can put on your aching joints – Voltaren. It’s better than icy hot creams.

    5. You might have super-stretchy ligaments and tendons, and weaker muscles, so your joints shear against each other in their instability and cause pain. The cure for that (for spinal joints, for example) may be to strengthen muscles so they can do the job the ligaments and tendons aren’t doing. But yes, please go see a physician about this symptom to rule out serious conditions/illnesses. You may get a referral to a joint or hand specialist. Good luck!

    6. Ask your pcp for a referral to a hand specialist dr. and physical therapy. A PT can treat the pain and also give you exercises to strengthen specific muscles in your hands and possibly recommend custom splints to stabilize certain joints. I have hypermobility (a term I learned from my hand specialist dr.), tendinitis and mild carpal tunnel. The PT was amazing and I now have a custom metal split for my thumb joint that not only works really well in keeping the pain at bay but also looks good. I get compliments on it all the time from people who think it’s jewelry.

  7. Hi! Please send recommendation for elegant shipping of champagne as thank you gift….what service do you like? Bonus for champagne with chocolate or something else…need an elegant thank you gift….

    1. I have no idea what the rules are for shipping champagne so I just tend to call a nice wine store in the recipient’s area, if I can.

For NYC, I can personally recommend Astor Wine & Spirit.

      1. All I know is that traditionally whatever the rules were, florists often got around them. I haven’t kept up though!

    1. You’re really going out of your way to victim blame there. Your redd1t link is not related to the Pelicot case, which is backed up by tons of evidence.

      1. I am not sure if this is victim blaming? I think the OP was saying she used to think some post here were far fetched but after the obviously true Pelicot story she is reconsidering what other outrageous sounding stories are actually true?

    2. I’m not sure what the connection to the Pelicot case is, but yes, of course you should be skeptical of “stories you read on Reddit”. Ask yourself “who benefits?”: there are plenty of incentives for people to post extreme or shocking content (because they just like trolling, because it gets them views and clicks, foreign influence campaigns, etc), and little incentive for platforms to fact check it (and AITAs are almost always impossible to fact check anyway!).

If you’re reading stuff that’s changing your perception of the world, it’s a good idea to step away.

    3. “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” Abraham Lincoln

Unless it’s coming from the Associated Press or similarly reliable news source, I take ev.er.y.thing I read online with a grain of salt. You – and the rest of humanity – should, too.

  8. Just a request to Kat, could y’all consider not featuring unclothed models? Between the tights and the underwear features it’s just not what I want to open on my work computer. I dislike having to quickly click out of things. We’re working in offices these days.

    1. +1000 I use corporette for a break from work, and would appreciate not having underwear or unusual photos being highly visible.

    2. I agree I was surprised by that almost NSFW photo while I was scrolling in my office with glass walls!

    3. I do not agree. In what world is it wrong too see dark tights and a tiny bit of midrif?
