This week we continue our love of torsade necklaces for work — we particularly like that this one is 18″ instead of the 16″ length that so many of them seem to be. It's worth noting that Ann Taylor has some great sales going on right now — 25% off 2 or more full-price items, and 40% off 3 or more full-price items (with code ANNSTYLE). Nice. Without any discount, the necklace is $68 at AnnTaylor.com. Multi-Strand Fine Chain Necklace

I have that necklace – it is awesome and goes with everything!

Shoe question for Canadian or British barristers: Can I wear red shoes with my robes in superior court? I don’t own a pair of black closed-toe shoes that would be appropriate and despite shopping ferociously lately, I can’t find any that fit me.

I don’t know what your shoe parameters are and can’t help with your original question, but I like these from Target. I find them very comfortable, but I do wear heels a lot.

NO!! Red shoes in a Superior Court?! That’s crazy talk.
They have to be black, with a closed toe.
Although it was a few years ago, one judge in BC is known for having thrown out a man from her courtroom for wearing brown shoes.

Wow, at the before-coupon-code price! $68 for a bunch of teeny metal chains? Ouch. I like it alot though, and the sale is tempting!

Am I the only person in the world who doesn’t like toursade necklaces at all? They overwhelm my small frame and make me look older (and not in a good way). Of course no one person is going to like everything featured here, but with the frequency with which they’re featured (and the general love thy get from the commenteriat) I always feel like I am the only person who doesn’t like them!

No H8, but for what it’s worth I don’t happen to like them either. Totally not me, incompatible with most of my collars, and so on. You are not alone.

Yay, I am glad it’s not just me!
And no hating on them (or on Kat for featuring them). I’ve definitely seen torsades look great on other women, I was just beginning to think I was missing something for some reason. I guess they are like nearly every other article of clothing/accessory: good for some people, not good for others.

nah. i think they’re totally 80s, and not in a good way.

So, I’ve been noticing my style tends to be uber-basic lately — solid cardigan, dress pants … I’m liking the printed shells that Banana, Loft, etc. have been slowly introducing as a way to add some color/change up my outfits a bit. My question is – does anyone have other ideas on where to get these types of pieces? I’m looking to layer under cardigans, but it could easily be for layers under suit coats.
I’d like to get away from the mainstream stores, because I feel like it’s a “competition” among the office ladies to see who wears which one when – just curious if people knew of other places to look for layers.
An example of what I’m talking about it is here:

Nordstrom has a Halogen line that does similar things, but would love to avoid spending $50 a pop ….
Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!

Anthro sale section– stalk there and find soft printed shells (geo! romantic retro! woozy watercolor!) to your heart’s content!

Agree! Anthro’s sale section is where I get all of my unique, slightly-off beat shells, tank tops, etc. Depending on how casual your office is, their cardigans are also amazing.

I would add the sundance catalog dot com for that sort of thing. They have some amazing sales & I have picked up gorgeous silk tops for $20 or so.

Boden could work, too.

Love the necklace! What kind of earrings would you wear with it? I’m worried the ones that match might be a little too much since the necklace is already so chunky….ideas?
AE
I just pulled the trigger and bought it. I bought the matching bracelet to wear with it on the weekends. If this necklace works with my work wardrobe (I will probably return it if it does not) I will wear my diamond studs with it. The necklace has some silver tone strands in it, so anything silver, white gold, or platinum would do.

I’d wear small silver hoops, small silver studs, or small diamond studs. I think the goal would be not to compete with the fairly bold necklace.
AE
Agree.
jcb
Agree as well. I’d wear my black pearl studs, same idea.

Love the necklace! For an office style I would wear with high waist gray pants tucked in with feminine blouse in light amethyst color. Pair with gray sleek blazer.
Or black high waist pants, slim belt and white stylish shirt. Pair with black blazer. I would pair this necklace with matching silver ring.

As I suspected! I wore red shoes in QB family in manitoba but you don’t robe for that.
