Update: The position has been filled. Thank you to everyone who applied!
Hi guys! I've decided to bring on an editor to help me here at the blog — on the off chance any of you know anyone who might be interested, I thought I'd post the job listing here as well. The full details are below…
Editor for workstyle blog (virtual & independent contractor)
Work closely with founder/Editor in Chief Kat Griffin to brainstorm, edit, write and assign stories about fashion, career, and lifestyle issues for ambitious, career-focused women. This is a great job for someone with at least 2-5 years of editing under their belt, either at a magazine or online publication. The ideal candidate would have experience with editing, interviewing, WordPress, HTML, SEO, social media, and occasionally Excel and PowerPoint, as well as thinking outside the box on evergreen topics.
About the blog: Corporette.com, a fashion and lifestyle blog for overachieving chicks, was founded in May 2008 by Griffin, then working as a litigator on Wall Street. Some of our top posts include 10 ways to wear a button-front shirt, looking professional without looking overdressed, and whether a ponytail is appropriate for work. We have a very active commenting community of almost 200K unique readers; the blog gets around 750K page views a month.
About the founder: Griffin graduated from the Medill School of Journalism in 1999, and worked in women's magazines for about two years before fleeing to Georgetown Law. She practiced as a media lawyer from 2003-2010; she's been focusing on the blog full time since then.
More details: This is an independent contractor, virtual position — aside from the occasional conference call/Skype (or, if you're NYC-based, a coffee shop meeting) you're free to do the work when you want to (provided you meet deadlines). I'd guess I'm seeking about 30 hours of work a week; it's perfect for the person who has other freelance gigs on the side. Salary/hourly rate is commensurate with experience. I seek a commitment of at least eight months, but hope you would stay with us longer — this could be a great growth position. (I have some big plans for the blog and brand!)
About the ideal candidate:
– reads Corporette and/or is familiar with the lifestyle we're talking about (long hours, male-dominated environments, high pressure)
– reads a ton of other blogs as well as paper publications
– 2-5 years of editing experience
– Very detail oriented and organized.
– Curious, enthusiastic, efficient, hardworking and solution oriented.
If you're interested, please email corporette-editor at corporette dot com with:
– a brief letter about yourself
– a resume
– links to your website/blog/Instagram/Pinterest/Twitter (if you have them)
– 5 ideas for article posts that you'd love to write (or revisit) for Corporette, and
– 5 ideas for pieces of clothing you would feature for a TPS report (our daily feature where we recommend one item of work-appropriate clothing, available for sale online now ).
I'll be reviewing the applications over the next few weeks will be in touch after that. Thank you so much for your time and interest! I'm excited to hear from you.
