Splurge Monday’s Workwear Report: Dani Blouse
Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
I love an oversized floral print. This silk blouse from L’Agence, with its dramatic rose pattern, is a gorgeous, moody vibe for this drab fall-to-winter transition period. I would layer this under a tweedy blazer or a leather jacket or tucked into a pleated midi skirt with some chunky boots.
The blouse is $380 at L’Agence and comes in sizes XS–XL. It also comes in over 30 other colorways.
Vince has an option in plus sizes; it's on sale for $227.50 and available in 1X–3X.

Want to hear an update on the poster who’s family wanted dinner at 1pm so they could drive home before dark. What ended up happening?
Does anyone with hardwood floors feel like they’re covering A LOT of their floor with rugs, somewhat defeating the purpose? Rug in the living room, rug in the dining room. Would like to add a few runners to hallways, and on our slippery wood stairs. I hate carpet, yet all of my floors are covered in rugs?
No, rugs protect your floors! As long as you leave an exposed border around the rug, it doesn’t look like wall to wall carpet and adds warmth and style and protection. All the rugs!
Honestly, this is why I haven’t done hardwoods throughout my house. I know I’d end up putting rugs everywhere and it’s easier to just vacuum my carpet than to clean the wood floors, then clean the rugs.
You can vacuum rugs.
Yes, and that’s my point. You have to vacuum those, plus use a different mop or swiffer-type thing for the hard floors.
I vacuum my hardwoods
Why so many rugs? We have all hardwood. No rugs in hallways or stairs. Rug on each side of bed. Rug under coffee table and sofa in living room. No rug in dining room. I was worried about slipping until I realized DH’s family and friends all have minimal rugs in Europe and it’s fine. That said, we usually wear slippers or have bare feet in the house so maybe lack of socked feet means less slipping?
I spent most of yesterday cleaning my WFH office – not just dusting but reorganizing, shredding, recycling, rearranging, etc.
It sucked to lose most of a day to it but today my office is a joy to work in
This is your reminder to do the thing.
Ok in light of the thread above I have to ask, what is it with older people having SUCH a problem with Hallmark Christmas movies showing black couples or inter racial couples?? I heard this same complaint from a retiree last year and was floored. Like it is THAT big of a problem for people if the sweet movie set up in a perfectly decorated small town ends in exactly 120 minutes with a black and white person falling in love? And this retiree was 65 not 95 and in NJ not rural Alabama. Like she has I’m sure seen inter racial couples IRL. She legit said that she just didn’t enjoy the movies or watch too many last year because they were too many inter racial couples.
Though I guess it’s not just the elderly, Candice Cameron Bure who starred in a lot of them gave a statement about how she left Hallmark for Great American Family Channel this year because it – aligns with her values – ie white people only, never even a woman with a woman or man with a man even as supporting characters etc.
I think they’re mad that a changing world doesn’t let them be bigots anymore and they throw tantrums about things like this.
This. And they have a tendency to view anything in the media as something that’s being “pushed” on them, as opposed to humans merely existing. It’s a gross worldview, and it’s not terribly shocking to me that there are still people out there who haven’t unlearned the social conditioning of their childhoods. And the individuals I’m thinking of aren’t old, either. They’re in their 60s.
My mom would have been 83 this year. She passed a few years ago.
She was sort of down on gay relationships. She said things like “fine if that’s what you want to do in your own home, but I don’t need to see it!”
But then she got very into that show Modern Family and her absolute favorite characters were, of course, Cam and Mitchell. At first I think she was uncomfortable, but then she just fell in love with them and their relationship. And as a result became much more gay-accepting.
It’s important to keep airing this type of content because it’s what makes it seem normal for people who think they’re against it!
My mother rants about this but hers usually focus on the fact that only 13% of the population is Black and the massive underrepresentation of Hispanics.
I want to get a nicer than I normally would birthday gift for a close friend who is turning 30. She loves to travel and leans more backpacking than 5 star hotel, has a very small apartment, loves to read non-fiction, has a particular interest in the Middle East. Any ideas?
I know we all love a good update. I am the poster from last week who asked about SIL’s husband telling his young teen son he couldn’t enjoy Thanksgiving because of a wresting weigh in. To add some insight, the wrestling club in question is middle school level and “pay for play”, basically if you can pay the dues you can join so this was not high stakes scholarship level. It all worked out however! The match organizer had some good sense and allowed all the kids to weigh in Wednesday so no need to worry about the big dinner. Her husband did however, show up late and eat his meal basically in silence without trying to engage with anyone, got up before dessert, and proclaimed he was tired, and went home without his family. (And he drove his own vehicle separately so I suspect this was his plan all along.) So, yeah, that about sums up his usual behavior.
I guess good on the match organizer, but this is something that has always bothered me about the sport. I grew up around plenty of guys who had VERY disordered eating habits because of wrestling weigh-ins. Those habits lasted well beyond the sports season.
Blech. Glad your nephew escaped a public shaming at a family holiday.
Brother in law arriving late, not talking, and leaving early sounds like a feature, not a bug!
+1
Agree. It sounds like that was best for him and everyone else.
