Election Day Resources
Tuesday, November 5, is Election Day! We've pulled together some important resources and articles for readers — and feel free to add any more you know of in the comments!
1. Need help finding your polling place? Don't forget, your designated location may have changed since the last time you voted. Find your polling place at Vote.org.
2. Enter your street address at Vote411 to get information about local races and candidates.
3. The ACLU has a guide to knowing your voting rights, resisting voter intimidation, and obtaining disability-related accommodations and language assistance at the polls.
4. USA.gov has info on voter ID requirements for each state.
5. For voting assistance, including to report problems at a polling place, call the non-partisan Election Protection Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE (list of hotlines in other languages).
6. We hope you won't need this, but Georgetown Law's Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection has created fact sheets for all 50 states that explain the laws barring unauthorized private militia groups — and what to do if groups of armed individuals are near a polling place.
7. 538 has a complete guide to poll closing times, vote counting, and races to watch in every state.
8. Ballotpedia lists its Top 15 Elections to Watch, including North Carolina Attorney General and the U.S. Senate election in Michigan, and Top 15 Ballot Measures and Trends to Watch, including abortion initiatives in several states.
9. The 19th has a detailed guide to ballot measures in the 10 states that could preserve the right to abortion in their state constitutions this year.
Make sure to exercise your right to vote!
Remember to vote down ballot! Your ballot probably has a lot of races on it beyond presidential. So much of your government is local, and who occupies the state or county positions really matters.
