I lost my job today. I have time to look for something else, and I saw signs it was coming, but this is devastating. Help?

hugs to you. reach out to your network ASAP. Take a couple days to “grieve” and then get on it.

You’ll probably be grieving and angry for a while. Don’t let it consume you, move through it. And don’t let the anger turn into bitterness.
beenthere.
Many of us have been there. It’s a tough time, but you’ll get through it. Lots of good people have been fired and gone on to have successful careers.
Pro tip – refill any prescriptions. Your health insurance probably runs through the end of the month.

The best help I ever got was from watching a PBS program years ago, by a woman who did purpose coaching or something. She said she spoke a lot, and always asked audiences how many people had been fired. Then she asked the large audience she was speaking to, to raise their hands if they’d been fired. A large number of people did. Then she asked them to keep their hands up if it turned out to be a good thing, down the road. Many, many hands stayed up. I always remembered that picture, and it gave me hope when I was fired.
I’ve been both laid off and fired, and I’d put my hand up and keep it up. It turned out well. Yours will too.

I don’t know Kat… I have a Celine bag and I *gasp* take it on public transport. I see lots of people with designer bags… it’s just the easiest way to get around in a lot of cities!

+1. More than one Hermes bag on my subway commute.
nasty woman
Yeah sometimes public transport is the most efficient/pleasant/only way to get somewhere. It’s not just for poors.

When I travel as a consultant, my clients will pay for cabs but I often take trains because they are faster and I don’t have to deal with rude or distracted cab drivers. So definitely the choice to take public transportation is not always about money.
nasty woman
Public transit really isn’t an option for me in my current commute situation, but I wish it was. I love taking the train because I can let my mind wander, read, and generally decompress before I get home, rather than getting out of the car likely even more agitated then I was when I left the office. Which then obviously requires flinging myself onto the couch (with a large comfort snack) in despair and annoyance before I recover.
Also, where are all the comments?

$2,450 just seems so expensive for a bag…
… but then, I’m not a designer handbag person.

Just think of all the uber rides you could take with a cheaper bag while avoiding the subway?
January
ha! good point

I thought her comment was directed more at protection from pickpockets– it’s not about getting your bag messed up, but about the desire to keep somebody from reaching in.
Signed, my most expensive bag was probably $200 but I still won’t buy anything without a zipper.

That and keeping things from falling out as you’re walking around, running to catch a train, etc.

Guys, where are you??? It’s such a slow afternoon for me. I need distractions!
Luxury Chronicles
I definitely agree with the notion that this purse should have a zipper or a closure of some sort. It seems like one of those cavernous bags that make you lose all of your belongings. You’d have to fill this bag with a bunch of other smaller bags just to stay organized!

Love the leather but I am hating the Gucci “G” hardware logos these days. Cheapens the bags and looks like a knock off IMO. No thanks.
