Gift Idea: Pet Heating Pad

A friend of mine who has a lot of cats posted about this on Facebook, and I was delighted because now I know what to get for my MIL for the holidays: a pet heating pad! Apparently both cats and dogs love them in winter, which makes sense since I also love heated blankets (and this electric foot warmer that I've gifted a bunch because I love it so much!).

The heating pad has a timer so you can turn it on and off when you want to, and features a waterproof liner and machine washable cover — as well as a chew resistant cord.

It's $31–$58 at Amazon (depending on size and color).

If you're looking for something non-electric, Kate bought this self-warming bed for her cats and one of them LOVES it — even when it's not cold out. (Kate removed the zippered top part.) It has “a layer of metalized insulation that radiates warmth generated from your cat’s own body heat” and is $33 at Chewy.

  1. Hmmm does my bulldog need this? He is a rescue. He spent his entire life before coming to my home in an outdoor kennel being a breeder stud. He now has a Serta dog bed in the house and is the most spoiled member of the family. I think he needs a heating pad.

    1. Our 13-year-old pug (like Noodle!) absolutely LOVES it when we turn on the fireplace – she’ll get as close as she can without actually getting singed. I think she needs this.
She also has two orthopedic beds, so what’s one more?

        1. Haha sort of! It’s more like she only has bones when one of us walks into the kitchen.

    2. My pampered princess dog, formerly a resident of a garbage dump in Istanbul, likes to sleep right next to the heating vent, but she is also resistant to new beds so I doubt I could convince her to try a heating pad. When we upgraded her to a fancy memory foam bed we had to put the old thin bed on top of it for two weeks.

  2. Will this help convince my cat to stop waking me at 12, 3, and 6 for wet food?

    1. Best solution for that…. spend a weekend waking your cat up every time you find them sleeping during the day…. Nicely,… pet her, pick her up, move her somewhere else. After 2 days she will be tired enough to sleep through the night. It seriously works.
