For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
If you've lately thought to yourself, why can I just not look like a French professor, do check out the Ines de la Fressange collection at Uniqlo. This boxy suit (with pleated pants!) caught my eye because of the unusual color, but the fashion of it has been growing on me also.
I've pictured it in wine because of course I have, but it's also available in navy. The blazer, which (alas!) is unlined, comes in sizes XXS to XXL and is $130 full price ($80 today). The pants unfortunately only come in sizes 2-8 (down to $49 today).
(Psst: while you're there, Uniqlo also has a collaboration with Theory right now! The +J collection also made me go “oooooo” — available November 12.)

This is embarrassing, but teach me how to properly clean kitchen countertops. I have granite ones and they never seem to shine.
anne-on
Have you ever had them resealed? That might be the issue. Our local tile store carries the sealant but so do amazon/home depot. Otherwise, I just use method granite cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
This is going to sound odd, but are you wiping (polishing) until all of the cleaning fluid is gone and the counter is dry? My husband does a quick left/right swipe stops, so then the rest of the spray dries and looks cloudy and we have streaks. This wasn’t an issue with the formica we had growing up so he didn’t realize he needed to ‘buff’ in the cleaner to have it look shiny.
Anonymous
Home Depot has a deep cleaner and a sealer for granite countertops. You are supposed to regularly deep clean and seal the stone. In between, I like the Method product as well.
Anon
You might have honed granite, which is meant to have a more matte, less shiny finish.
anonymous
I have quartz countertops. I wipe off crumbs with a sponge and then spray with an all purpose cleaner. I’ll go back and scrub with a sponge. Then I take a wet washcloth and wipe off the residue. I think Method makes a cleaner specifically for granite.
Anon
With the caveat that I don’t know what my countertops are (some kind of granite looking material), dish soap works best on mine. I use dawn.
Ellen
My mom got Granite countertops and Dad cracked a carton of eggs on it by mistake. They stayed there b/c he went out on a trip to the EU and mom did not get home for 3 days to find the eggs on the counter. Though she was abel to wipe the shells off when she got home, she has not been sucessful in getting rid of the odor of rancid eggs. When I got there on Friday night, that was all I smelled, despite the Renewzit stink she had put into the kitchen area. So I would advise you to clean the countertops regularly, and not to let food dry into the granite, irrespective if whether and when it is “sealed”. Mom is thinking of getting a “deep cleaning” of the kitchen for $3000, but Dad is against it. He says he does not smell anything, but that was the FIRST thing I smelled when I came up from the Garage. FOOEY!
Sunflower
Method Granite & Marble Cleaner works well.

You can just wipe them clean with a sponge.
climbing gifts
Any climbers here? My teenaged daughter just retired from competitive gymnastics and joined a rock climbing team, and I’m looking for climbing-themed birthday and holiday gifts. She already has all the equipment she needs, a cute quirky chalk bag, a bag for her gear, and a water bottle. She prefers to climb in ratty old sweats, so no need for fancy leggings from LLL or Athleta. Is there a must-read book on climbing technique or an inspirational book about a female climber? A source for cool t-shirts? A good hangboard that temporarily mounts in a doorway? Something else fun and useful that I’m not thinking of?
Anon
Lots of hand lotion. There are books about female climbers but I found the ones I’ve read to be kind of boring. Maybe tickets to the virtual Banff Film Festival?
test run
There are a ton of books on climbing/climbing psychology, but one I really like is Vertical Mind: Psychological Approaches for Optimal Rock Climbing.
some ideas...
Not sure if she has any need for magnets, but these are a hoot: https://www.rei.com/product/198436/microsend-miniature-magnetic-crag
Other ideas: I like climbOn! hand balm. An extra pair of nail clippers for her gym bag. NorthFace’s “Walls Are Meant for Climbing” t-shirts/sweatshirts (bottom of this page: https://www.thenorthface.com/featured/walls.html) Does she climb outdoors at all? A helmet or getting a start on other outdoor gear.
Is it Friday yet?
They make scented climbing chalk, which is fun – Joshua Tree is the brand. Climber-specific hand balm is helpful because climbing’s really rough on your skin – I like ClimbOn. If she’s just started climbing, she doesn’t need to hangboard yet, and it might actually be detrimental as it’s easy to overdo things and injure a tendon. I think the recommendation is not to start strength training like that for at least 6-12 months, but I would ask her coaches about it. Is she going to climb outside at all? An American Alpine Club membership includes rescue benefits, and you get a sweet free shirt every year, as well as copies of the American Alpine Journal and Accidents in North American Climbing. And rent the movie “Pretty Strong” for her – could be a fun movie night with some gym friends. :)

Lynn Hill’s autobiography was really good. It’s a bit old, but well worth a read.

Is being anemic a reason to seek out a GYN or is that not something this deal with unless it’s an obvious issue? Slightly anemic and my PCP who I trust seems to just say it happens as you get into your later 30s-40s as it’s been a long time of iron stores not being restored monthly in a person who isn’t eating a lot of meat (about 2-4 meat entrees a month for me though I’m trying to up that now along with a low dose supplement). I didn’t ask her one way or the other if I should mention this to a GYN though I figured if it was THAT important she would have suggested it as she gives good info. Is this something in their wheelhouse or not really?
Griz
If you think it is tied to menstruation it’s definitely worth bringing up. Lots of women struggle with low iron, so your GYN might have more ideas than your PCP did too.
Anon
I think hematologist would normally be the relevant specialist, not gynecologist, for anemia that resists treatment? It’s not a big mystery though if your dietary intake is low, so I would see if improving intake resolves the issue.
Now if you think it’s related to losing too much blood, you may want to rule out hypothyroidism, PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis — but those conditions would normally have other symptoms you’d have noticed by now. (I mention them anyway though because a lot of doctors normalize “curse of Eve” type symptoms thanks to patriarchy, in my fed up opinion!)
AnonMD
Internist here…
I’d ask your PCP to look into the cause of your anemia a little more closely. She’s right that it’s very common in m*nstruating women (and in people who donate blood regularly), but it’s still worth investigating to make sure nothing else is going on. At the very least, I’d ask her whether you need TSH, iron studies, and FOBT. This is well within the wheelhouse of a good PCP, no need to go to gynecologist or hematologist.
Anonymous
Thanks much! Had just initially ordered a hemoglobin but now has following that up with iron studies, T3/T4 etc.
Anon
I wouldn’t go see a gyn just because you’re anemic unless it’s because of extremely heavy periods or something like that – and in that case, they’ll probably just prescribe you birth control pills and check if there are underlying reasons.
Anonymous
If you have anemia symptoms, I would try dietary steps and then ask for a follow up if they don’t go away.
Long distance move
I know that most long distance moving firms are franchises and how good they are depends on who you’re dealing with, but does anyone have recommendations on how to about finding movers? We’re moving from Montana to CA with not a lot of furniture but quite a few boxes of stuff. Cheapest would probably be to rent a Uhaul and donthe move ourselves but we also need to get two cars out there and we have a young baby. So I’m willing to throw some money at it (and fly with the baby instead of driving two days). The pod company doesn’t serve Montana. Any tips/ideas?
Vicky Austin
Have you ruled out the UHaul for other reasons, or just the two car thing? Because we recently made a similar move (sans baby) and I drove my car, packed with the dog and anything I didn’t trust to be in the UHaul, and my husband drove the UHaul with his car towed on a trailer behind it. Finding parking along the way was the biggest PITA, but it was doable.
nuqotw
I knew some folks who moved MD to TX and shipped nearly everything (other than cars / themselves) by UPS. They said it was cost effective and fast.
Anon
There are many pod-type companies. Maybe there is one that serves you? U-Pack?
Anon
Many small, local moving companies will do long distance moves. One of my friends owns a moving company and they do cross-country moves regularly.
Anonymous
If you don’t have too much stuff, you might go on U-Ship to get a bid. You would get a small hauler with a small truck.
Anonymous
I used PODs for a cross country move, and that worked really well — you just hire local, day of movers on each end. For the car, you can generally send those on a car transport. A Los Angeles to Dallas car shipping was around $600 4 years ago.
Nom
U-haul has pod equivalents, they call them “U-boxes” I think. I have used them for move both to and from MT (to MT from the east coast, then from MT to the west coast). We had a whole house full of stuff for the first move but downsized to a total of 2 U-boxes. You should be able to set it up online but you can also call the central U-haul number if it’s easier to talk to someone.
I would also consider hiring local movers to help you load/unload, especially if you can’t have the U-box on site. Both times we opted to load and unload the boxes at the local U-haul place, which I do think is the best option but it means you’re doubling the number of times each box is lifted. We had family to help on the east coast and in MT, but the last unpack was just the two of us and it was exhausting. I would have really struggled to do it with a baby in tow.

DH’s bday is on Friday. I have an evening/night planned on Saturday (kids are grandparents, nice hotel downtown, diner, etc). But I don’t have any actual gifts.
Any ideas for something to unwrap? He probably doesn’t care one way or the other, but the kids want to get him something. Their suggestions are “beers and earrings,” only one of which DH would actually like ;).
Senior Attorney
I think beers from the kids would be hilarious!
Anonymous
Yeti or other metal koozie?
nuqotw
Fancy man soap. The hardware store in our area carries wood scented, whiskey scented, something called “Naval Supremacy” and other fine options. I got DH a bar once and it was a hit to the point that it’s what he buys regularly now.
Anon
The Jack Black grooming essentials for an upgraded shower and shave experience.
Wool socks.
And definitely beer from the kids. Along with a hand drawn card.

I would absolutely get him earrings, from the kids. Or rather, one big golden earring and a scull bandana and a nice apron with “captain cook” or something so that he can wear to amuse them while cooking dinner, BBQing or similar.

Is it possible to remove old floor tile grout and redo it? I live in an area with discoloured water. It looks clear and is drinkable but it gradually turns tile grout rust coloured (and the bath, and the shower, and the shower tiles etc etc,).
I have ceramic floor tiles with grey grout which is now rust coloured around the sink area. I can’t afford to replace so was hoping someone might have a solution. Floor grout is wider and seems harder than wall tile grout so I have no idea if its possible.
Anonymous
If the grout is still in good shape except for the discoloration, look into grout paint.
Anon
An in-line filter and softener for the whole house. You need to treat that water as soon as it enters the dwelling, before it hits anything (even the water heater). It will erode everything and you will be paying for new appliances, new piping systems, and new infrastructure.
Source: having rock-hard water and buying three washing machines in ten years, plus a professional background in fluid control.
Thistle
Actually I live in a soft water area. I’ve had it tested a couple of times. It just stains over time, which is a pest
Anonymous
Consider whether it could be algae. We have soft water, but if we don’t clean up water quickly we get reddish brown algae stains in places like shower grout.
Anon
They make grout paint pens that would help in this situation.
anon
To answer your question, yes, but it is a bit of a pain and can quickly turn into a big project if you chip tiles, tiles come loose, etc. There is a grout refresh paint by MAPEI at Lowes. Think of it as the equivalent of the wood stain pens for scratches and scuffs, but for grout. If you can get a decent color match, I’ve had good luck with it just go slowly and clean up as you go. Also, assuming you’ve already tried the usual nasty chemicals that require gloves and ventilation (e.g., CLR, bleach, etc.). If you haven’t would be my first step.
Anonymous
Yes, the grout can be chiseled out and replaced, but do you have any replacement tiles? Odds are your contractor would chip or break some tiles in the process, and then you can end up with a larger problem.
Anon
Yes, it’s a thing and you can hire a tile person to come in and regrout.
Anonymous
I had great results washing my discolored grout. Mine was not rust colored, but very dark and not very nice looking.
I found a method online that worked for me, no idea how it effects the grout long term, but it was great for a one-time thing.
I slightly wet the tiles, added a generous amount of sprinkled dish soap (something like fairy liquid or dawn) that I spread over the grout with my hands to cover everything. Then I waited about half an hour – the waiting is important – and came back to scrub. I used a normal nylon dish washing brush. I had to add some water to get it to lather. I just sat on the floor and scrubbed lightly with the brush, in different directions, both circular, back and forth. I didn’t use any force, just repetition. Then I washed the floor with a microfiber cloth.
All my discoloration disappeared. The most difficult thing was washing away all the lather from the dish soap.
Hair Loss
Has anyone here tried one of those light helmet devices to treat female pattern hair loss? I am in the early stages right now and am willing to throw money at the problem if it has an ok chance of working. My dermatologist had me start topical Rogaine and some supplements. She said she hasn’t looked into the light helmets extensively but that some of her colleagues do say there’s some evidence they work.
Anon
Per the hair loss subr3ddits, micro-needling seems to have a high success rate than light therapy. But that could be caused by a lower barrier-to-entry cost.
Hair Loss
I hadn’t even heard about microneedling for this, so I’ll look into that as well. I looked on the female hair loss subr for a bit but then got pretty freaked out by a few posters from whom nothing was working and had to take a break. I’ll search for microneedling, too.
Anon
You’re doing the right thing by using Rogaine now. I was in denial about my hair loss – I thought it was primarily telogen effluvium from pandemic stress; some of it was TE but as frequently happens, the TE brought my attention to the androgenetic alopecia that was underlying and had been going on for some time. I didn’t start Rogaine for a year after I got diagnosed with AA, and I lost a lot of hair in that year. Fortunately I’ve responded well to Rogaine, but things aren’t ever going to be the way they were.
I did not try one of the light helmets, but got a handheld device and used it on my front scalp (where I have the most loss). It didn’t do much. I am going to try microneedling next, and in the New Year I am going to do a platelet-rich plasma treatment cycle – my dermatologist recommended PRP (their office doesn’t do it, she made a couple of suggestions for where I can go) as it seems to have good results for people, moreso than some other treatments.
Hair Loss
I’m very interested to hear how the microneedling goes and the PRP injections. My dermatologist told me if we were going “full court press” she’d start me on oral meds and PRP injections but that I might want to try topical first since whatever works, you have to keep doing it.
I only really started early because I’d taken a close up pic of my part for a hairdresser last year, and comparing that to my part now is very obvious, at least to me. This is such a painful topic, and I can definitely see how you’d avoid starting interventions in the hopes that it was “just” stress and would come back.
I’m in the shedding phase, which seems like an especially cruel side effect, given the circumstances!
Anon
I will definitely post back after I get the PRP in January.
I feel better than I did a few months ago, before I started Rogaine. I had taken a selfie with my family on a vacation with the camera tilted down at my head and realized…oh s–t, I am bald. Not bald-bald but the hair in the front of my scalp was mostly gone. The denial phase was over at that point. I went full-court-press on whatever I could do at home after that, including the Rogaine, and it’s better. FYI I am also on spironolactone, but my PCP cautioned me about that, because he’s had women my age (mid-40s) get on it for hair loss or perimenopausal acne and it caused other problems related to having really low androgens. I am not having those problems so far, and really want to treat the hair loss with everything I can, so I’m staying on it for now.
This is a really painful experience and not something I anticipated ever happening to me (which is dumb, considering my dad and every other man on his side of the family went bald before 30). Most people don’t notice it but I notice it, and I also worry about how much worse it’s going to get later. I am hoping I won’t have to get hair transplants but will go there if I have to.
Anon
I don’t have advice for OP but just wanted to comment on telogen effluvium. I had that from the onset of Rheumatoid Arthritis. All my hair started falling out 4-6 months after diagnosis. It was the weirdest thing ever. Seems to be back to normal for me, fingers crossed. Sorry that wasn’t the answer for you!
Anon
So are we not going to talk about how Winsome Sears will be the first woman AND woman of color to hold the second-highest office in VA? As a WOC in VA, I am elated. But the news outlets that would usually be the first to magnify this had nothing to say (I’m looking at you WaPO front page that had “Winsome Sears projected to win VA. LG race ” in tiny font and “MICHELLE WU IS FIRST PERSON OF COLOR AND FIRST WOMAN TO BE ELECTED BOSTON MAYOR” in big font.
FFS
Anonymous
The mayor of Boston is much more important and influential than the lieutenant governor of VA.
Anon
She is also an immigrant, no?
No Face
Lt. Gov is not an important position unless the Governor leaves office (NY), so it makes sense that a WOC becoming a mayor of a major city gets the bigger headline.
ElisaR
right. also boston not electing another white irish guy makes it ever more of a big deal.
Anon
Was a white irish (redundant?) guy even running this time? IIRC, no.
Anon
That doesn’t erase the significance of a young WOC winning.
Anon
+1 the mayor Boston has far more power than the Lt Gov of Virginia.
anon
Dang, I guess she didn’t really accomplish anything newsworthy. I’ll remember that next time.
Anon
Literally no one has said it’s not newsworthy. Just as not as big a deal as other events that happened the same day.
Anon
Right. Lieutenant governors are basically the Vice Presidents of states and anyone who has ever seen Veep knows what a thankless, insignificant job that is. You basically have nothing important to do unless the governor or president dies or resigns. Mayor of a large city is a much bigger deal.
anon
+3 I agree with this assessment as well. It’s just not as newsworthy.
Anon
Given that 14 out of our 45 Presidents* have been VPs previously, I’m not sure that your comparison to being VP is doing what you think it’s doing.
Becoming Lt. Governor raises her profile and puts her in the running for Governor, does it not, especially since Virginia does not allow consecutive terms in the corner office? Does it not raise her profile and put her in the running for US Congress, Senate, or even a slot in a Republican Presidential administration?
*Please count Grover Cleveland only once
Anon
Sure, it raises her profile. But a woman of color having her “profile raised” is not as significant as a WOC being elected to lead an entire city of almost a million people. Boston has a larger population than some states, so Michelle Wu’s election is more akin to a governor’s race. Surely you would agree that governors get more press and attention than lieutenant governors? This is not surprising.
Anon
Eyeroll. The OP’s point was that Sears was barely mentioned while Wu was headlined. Given that it’s entirely possible to have a headline like “Banner Night for Women” or “First Asian-American Woman elected to mayor in Boston, first Black woman elected to Lt. Gov in Virginia,” the OP is completely correct.
FYI, Ralph Northam and Tim Kaine were both Lt. Gov before being elected to the governorship.
Anon
But the LTG is elected on a separate ballot, so millions vote (vs less than a million in a city total) and it is a big deal. It isn’t like the Veep of the US.
Anon
That’s not true in all states (in my state they’re a ticket just like Biden/Harris) and I wasn’t aware of how Virginia did it. It’s still not an office with any real power. The mayor of Boston has far more influence on people’s daily lives and a much higher national profile. Sears has gotten lots of media coverage as well she should! She’s almost certainly the most well known lieutenant governor in the US right now. But lieutenant governor is just not that significant an office compared to the mayor of one of the largest cities in the US.
Anon
Isn’t everything you wrote about how this will raise Sears’ profile also true of Michelle Wu? Buttigeig made a serious run for President and ended up in a presidential cabinet after being mayor of a much smaller city than Boston. No one is arguing that this isn’t news, just that it’s not more significant news than Michelle Wu’s election.
You live in VA so you understandably care more about VA politics than most. But on a national scale it’s just not as newsworthy as a governor’s race or mayor of a large city. I can name probably 20 state governors and at least 5 mayors outside my state, but I only know the name of one lieutenant governor outside my state (Hochul) and only because she became governor amidst the Cuomo scandal.
Anon
I spent almost my entire life in Boston and do not live in Virginia, Anon at 4:22. I’m well aware that Flynn became Ambassador to the Holy See and Walsh is in the DOL; however, after five terms of Mumbles, sorry, Menino, forgive me for not being overly impressed to think that it’s national news.
Anon
Is Boston even a large city anymore? Like is it even the size of Phoenix or Charlotte? It doesn’t seem to be significant anymore. Sort of like how Philly and Baltimore used to be big and important. People have largely moved away and it isn’t what it was.
Anon
Boston is slightly larger than El Paso, Texas, and Nashville, TN.
Anonymous
Philly is the 6th largest city in the US. It’s big and important.
Anonymous
I think Philly is tied with Phoenix but PHX is growing and Philly isn’t. Somehow PHX doesn’t get the respect it deserves.
Anonymous
If you want to celebrate someone who glorified guns by all means feel free to start that party!
LaurenB
Exactly. What a yee-haw with the gun pose. It was tacky and classless when a white woman (Sarah Palin) posed with guns, so equal opportunity tacky and classless when Winsome Sears does so.
Annony
The way this was written came across a little bit anti-Asian, tbh.
Anon
Agreed. I’m white fwiw.
Anon
Yeah it has very “Asians aren’t REAL minorities” vibes.
Anonymous
Because no one cares?
Anonymous
The media don’t think Republicans who fit any diversity categories “count” as diverse.
No Face
It sounds like in this instance the media did in fact report her as diverse on the front page.
Anon
I mean, good for her, but lt gov is never a headline making position, no matter who it is. Mayor of a big city is. I follow political news pretty closely and can’t remember lt gov elections being big news, ever, in any state, and many have now elected a first woman or POC in those roles.
Anon
In VA it may actually matter b/c sitting governors cannot run for re-election, so she is already the front-runner for the R nomination for actual governor.
Anonymous
That is … optimistic?
Anon
Kaine and Northam were Lt. Governors….
Anonymous
It is true. She is directly elected by all people in the state. She has won a statewide race. In other states it isn’t like this usually.
Anonymous
I agree with this. Of course, having said that, my state’s Lt. Gov made headlines, but not because he’s the first African American to hold that office, but because he just promotes conspiracy theories and then doubles down on the crazy when asked about it (ah, NC politics).
Anon
You are looking for offense where there is none.
Kathy
“So are we not going to talk about..,”
Anon
It is also significant that people feel that Republicans are all racists and in a very closely divided state, she won. GOV and LT GOV are elected separately (they way we used to elect presidents) and since a sitting governor can’t run for immediate re-election, she will likely be in position to win her primary and run to be governor next, so here, where they are the same party, it is like being an understudy. More significant than in other states (no one knows who any LT GOV is except this spring in NY and she is getting primary-challenged by Letitia James).
In Boston, this election, all candidates were POC, so one of them was going to win, not another Irish guy.
No Face
Perhaps this is why she got a headline in the front page if a national publication, unlike most people who become Lt Gov. I learned who she was from very casual news browsing, and I do not care at all about the Virginia election.
Anon
This. It’s getting far more attention than it otherwise would because of the historic nature of her election. I’m in the Midwest and saw multiple news articles about her last night. I cannot name a single other lieutenant governor outside my own state. I barely even know the name of my own. I came up with it eventually but it took me a few minutes.
Anon
“It is also significant that people feel that Republicans are all racists”
This is not true, and another attempt to find offense where there is none.
I don’t know what you’re aiming to accomplish here, with these posts, but I don’t think you’re going to be successful. I think you may be in the wrong place for this kind of thing, frankly.
Anon
The newly-elected Virginia Attorney General is Hispanic. His family are refugees from Cuba.
Anonymous
It’s because she harms a certain Democratic narrative and many Democrats are only interested in tokenizing WOC. You can see (like now) that there are certain cases where they just don’t care despite breathless coverage about every other progressive downballot POC in the last few years.
Anon
Lol no it’s because it’s really a very unimportant office. And the fact that I, a non Virginian, knew her name (even before this comment) is evidence it IS being covered nationally. I couldn’t begin to tell you the name of the NJ lieutenant governor elect.
Anon
That’s because New Jersey elects the Lt. Governor concurrently with the governor, not on separate tickets like Virginia does, and only instituted the office 12 years ago. NJ is still counting votes.
Anon
Ok well I can’t tell you the name of any other lieutenant governor either and some of them win statewide office independently too. You’re acting like VA is the only state in the country where they’re not a ticket and thus VA lieutenant governors are uniquely powerful, but that’s definitely not the case. About half the states elect them separately and half do a ticket. No one cares about a lieutenant governor regardless of how they were elected, unless (as in NY recently) the governor steps down.
Her election is getting a LOT of media attention and acting like everyone is ignoring it because she’s not a Democrat is just weird and wrong.
Anon
No, Anon, I’m not “acting like” Virginia is unique. I’m pointing out that there’s good reason to highlight Winsome’s historic win. You’re acting like she may as well have won a race for dog catcher.

Anon at 9:13, I realize the Republican Outrage Machine put out the dog-whistle yesterday to mobilize all of you to go forth into the various online communities you’re part of and try to foment outrage about this issue, but it really is not welcome here. Consider how you’re spending your time and energy. You posted trying to start a fight and you got shut down. You lost. Time to move on. I’m sure another Call to Spread the Outrage will be coming along shortly.

Oh effing waah. Lieutenant governors races are not significant national news. I cannot even tell you the name of my own state’s lieutenant governor.
But keep creating your own narrative around this, they way you’re accusing democrats of doing. You see that, don’t you?

Is there even a LT GOV elect in NJ. NJ has the most powerful governor in the US because the governor gets to pick most officers. In other states, all offices are elected and what do I know about the agriculturial commissioner? I live in a city and kill plants. Still, I have to vote on this. Why?

I knew absolutely nothing about Winsome Sears, so I googled her, and the first thing I saw was some commercial where she is brandishing a gun, as if Virginia is like an old John Wayne movie. So really, I know all I need to know about her, and I’m not interested.

Thanks for everyone’s comments yesterday on my Sam’s club conundrum! I think we’ll hold for now. Back with another question…my sister wants foot pampering items for Christmas. What are your favorites? Drugstore or fancy both fine since this is a gift.

Dr Scholls is hard to beat. They probably sell sets.
Anon
Also, I love the Microplane foot file for calloused heels. A little goes a long way so I advise a light hand.

Ewww. I was actually thinking I needed a new one of these for the kitchen since I noticed the one I had was getting so dull it couldn’t even zest lemons properly. I was thinking of requesting one for Christmas, but the thought of grating my feet with it just totally grosses me out and now it’s all I can think about!
Anon
I mean, I think Microplane is in the business of making microplanes. I believe they started out in the woodworking space. They’re useful for lots of things.
Anon
Not to imply this doesn’t work well (the kitchen ones are great) and some people might like it, just be careful who you give one to, because this idea doesn’t clearly appeal to everyone! Fancy lotion and socks, yes, grating my feet with a rasp, definitely no!

I really like the L’Occitane hand and foot creams but they are too spendy for real life, so think they would be a great treat.

Baby Feet peel

Babyfeet! and the rasp/cheese grater is also amazing on feet still damp from the shower.
Go for it
Glass stone from ulta has worked really well for me
anon for this
I noticed that epsom salt baths (Dr Teals, Lavender scent) for my sore muscles had a nice side effect of softening my heels. Maybe a basin to do a footbath and some nice salts?
Yet another vaccine/community question
I matched on a dating app with a man that seemed amazing. I just found out that he is an anti-vaxxer.
I live in a tightly knit community that is over 90% vaccinated with lots of retired people. This man is opening a restaurant in our tiny downtown. Do I share what I know about him with friends and associates? I am pretty sure the information would spread quickly, and I have screenshots to eliminate any “he said, she said.”
It blows my mind that this man is basically colonizing a place where people care about one another, to inflict pain and suffering, and is seemingly proud of it.
Anonymous
Put him on blast.
Anon
I absolutely would but I’m petty.
Anonymous
I would. We don’t go to the restaurant in town owned by the rabid anti-masker; they have also been cited in the past for other health violations, and I am not going to risk our health because he wants to give government regulation the finger.
Anon
Do it. Post on Nextdoor.
Go for it
+1. That is really awful. Def would not pursue anything further
Anon
I wouldn’t post it on NextDoor because you’re publicly attaching your full name to it and you may get harassed by his friends or even sued (I realize you have a solid defense but I still wouldn’t want to go through a lawsuit). But I’d definitely tell friends and let them tell their friends and so on. If you really want the public to know, leak it anonymously to a newspaper.
Anon
Be sure to get the local Health Department on your Next Door list! Cuz won’t his restaurant have to follow certain guidelines?
Anon
Depends. In many places, no, they wouldn’t have to follow any special guidelines.
