The Jones New York Friends and Family sale has just started, and there are a ton of lovely pieces. In addition to the houndstooth suiting and cardigan sweater I was drooling over a few weeks ago (or their washable suiting line that I called out on Washable Wednesday a few weeks ago on CorporetteMoms), there is a ton of great stuff on the site — and it's 30% off sitewide. If you've never tried the brand, you're missing out — I've thought of them for years as a stalwart for classic yet feminine workwear that is flattering, wears well, and launders easily. I also like that many of the pieces come in regular, petite, and plus sizes. Some of my favorites currently part of the sale are below — please note that all prices are an extra 30% off from the prices I've listed here. :)
I love the look of a lot of their suiting, including:
- this gorgeous birdseye seasonless stretch suit — they have this great blazer (pictured below), several matching pants, and a pencil skirt — all available in regular, petite, and plus sizes. The blazer is $139.
- Washable wool suiting! For those of you looking for a washable blazer, check it out. It comes in black, navy, and gray, with multiple matching pieces, in regular and plus sizes. The blazer is the highest priced item in the collection and it's $159 (pictured below).
- I like the look of this ponte knit blazer and matching dress — the blazer (pictured below) is $139; the dress is $119.
- I also like the look of this mixed media blazer and the matching pants — the blazer (pictured below) is $129, and the matching pants are $69.
Their Olivia jacket, in particular, seems like a winner no matter what fabric it's in…
- The Olivia Jacket with Peplum Back ($169) (also available in plus sizes)
- The Olivia Two Button Ponte Knit Blazer ($129) (matching dress pictured below)
- The Olivia Seasonless Stretch Jacket ($129) (also available in petite and plus)
I'm also a huge fan of their dresses — they're generally very washable, figure friendly, and comfortable…
- The Brooke Ponte Knit Bolero Neck Dress ($118)
- The Scarlett Dress with Belt ($109) (also in petite sizes)
- Blue Sleeveless V-Neck Dress with Belt ($79) (also available in plus)
- Sleeveless Asymmetric Keyhole Sheath Dress ($79)
In terms of tops, I like the variety of washable tops they have. Even their simple Ts are just a bit different than the boring crew necks, scoop necks, and V-necks you see everywhere.
- Elbow Length Drape-Neck Blouse, available in 7 colors ($49) (also available in plus)
- 3/4 Sleeve Stretch Cotton Crew Neck Tee Shirt with Split Neck ($29) (also available in plus) (available in TONS of different colors and styles)
- Non-Iron Easy-Care Relaxed Cotton Shirt ($69) (also available in petite and plus in some colors)
- Short Sleeve Faux Wrap Top ($29) (available in multiple styles and colors, and in plus sizes)
- Boat Neck Shirt ($49, available in multiple colors, and in petite and plus sizes)
- Long Sleeve V-Neck Top($49)
Readers, what are your favorites? Do you have any old standbys that you love at JNY? Have you bought any great new JNY pieces recently?

Can anyone comment on how their blazers fit for the short-waisted and busty? I love the look of the first blazer but am not sure I’d ever be able to button it.
Anon
They fit kind of like Talbots.
I'm Just Me
I bought the mixed media blazer about 2 weeks ago for $59. Their sales run in a cycle and things reach a lower price point at various times. I am between sizes on their size chart and ended up keeping the smaller size. The jacket is nice and I’m glad I have something this winter to try the (faux) leather trim trend.
Sisterly Blues - UPDATE!
Just wanted to update all of you that gave me great advice yesterday regarding my issues with SO’s sister.
SO’s sister and I had a long talk last night where I apologized for what I said and I truly meant it. I emphasized that she didn’t need to hear that from anyone, but most importantly not me. Especially turning what should have been my displeasure with an isolated incident into a commentary about her life. And I promised that if I have an issue with something specific I’ll tell her in a respectful way.
I also told her that I need to reel it in on the overall commentary and unsolicited advice giving. I told her that the fact that she values my opinion is a privilege and an honor and I’ve taken advantage of that place in her life and abused it. Interestingly, she stopped me dead in my tracks and very firmly told me that while she didn’t appreciate the tone or the content of the things I said yesterday she wanted to be clear that she has always appreciated all constructive advice I’ve ever given her. And she said she really, really did not want this fight to make me think I shouldn’t tell her the truth because sometimes I’m the only person who actually tells her these tough things.
Well I’ll be damned. As I heard her say this, I remembered why I’ve loved her so much and have felt so invested in her life to begin with. She’s a very special person to constantly self-evaluate, she’s maybe just growing at a slower pace than I would like her to (maybe I’m just impatient!), but she’s certainly trying in her own way. I still think I need to be careful not to butt in, because even if she isn’t trying to grow, I love her and you guys have helped me to see that I’d still love her even if she didn’t change one bit! The fact that she says she wants me to says a lot about her as a person, but I don’t think it means that’s the best way for us to handle our friendship.
Needless to say that sure made me think twice about how little credit I gave her. And it makes me feel a lot more comfortable giving her exactly what she needs right now- a loving, supportive environment and a rational thinker if she ever decides she wants a second opinion. Until she asks for any advice, I’m just going to continue to help her decorate her apartment and chat about the new people she’s meeting and not think about who’s footing the bill because it’s not my problem! And if one day it becomes my problem… I know who to come to for advice on how to have those difficult conversations. :)
Thank you all again for helping me to open my eyes and see the bigger picture.
Yay
Glad it worked out!

Wow – that’s great! Good for you for handling this in such a mature way.
Sisterly Blues
Thank you! I think she deserves a great deal (if not all) of the credit for the maturity of the situation.

Dear Jones New York,
I love your work-friendly clothes, and I love your sales. I especially love the beautiful work-appropriate dresses you’re offering. But it’s so hard to buy those dresses when they are sleeveless. I can only wear sleeveless dresses to work with a blazer, and you don’t give me any hints about what blazers would work with your dresses.
You know what would make me buy more clothes? If you showed sleeveless work dresses with coordinating blazers, so I could buy a whole outfit from your website and trust that the dress and the blazer would work together. I don’t need them to “match” – but as I’m sure you know, not all blazers work with all dresses, and I would love to be able to trust your judgment rather than trying to discern fabric weight, cut, and other issues based solely on the descriptions.
In short, if you show me a whole outfit, I will buy a whole outfit. And spend way more money on your site. What’s not to love about that?
Sincerely,
Lorelai Gilmore

Dear Jones New York: Not to pile on, but who doesn’t have a website which shows the coordinating suiting items? I love the look of your navy multi peplum back blazer, but why do I have to hunt through your website to find which pants and/or skirts go with it? You know what Nordstrom’s and Talbot’s do? They show related items on the very same page! That way, I can also buy a whole outfit, just like my friend Lorelai above. Welcome to 2014, JNY! Best, Bewitched.

I have the perfect solution on how wear sleeveless sheath dresses! AMB Boutique (online site) has these fantastic ‘layering tops’ which I discovered a few years ago. It turns the sheath dress into kind of a ‘jumper’ type look. The tops are thin, stretchy like hose (keep in mind can snag but price is inexpensive to replacing is not much of a prob). I recommend buying black, white and charcoal grey. They have colors and printed tops too which could really make for a great look if you wear a black or grey sheath dress. Highly highly recommend! I tell my clients about these shirts and they love them too!
