I'll try to do a full sales roundup later today (naptime, cough cough), but a few quick notes right now:
- The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale has started! They seem to be having a lot of tech troubles (the home page has been spinning for me for about 10 minutes now), but it's on — save up to 50% through January 3. Some quick notes on what to look for: deep discounts on Classiques Entier (the pictured dress is down to $136, available in red and black, tons of sizes left), Hugo Boss, reader favorites like the Halogen suits and skirts and Pleione blouses. Deep discounts on shoes and bags, too — AGL flats are 35-40% off, tons of Stuart Weitzman up to 50% off, and my goodness a TON of boots. On the weekend side, tons of good deals on Zella leggings and major discounts on denim like AG, JAG, J.Brand, and more.
- Brooks Brothers is having their semi-annual sale with an additional 15% off online orders today and tomorrow. The cashmere ruana, normally $500, is marked to $249 today in all colors still available — not bad, especially considering the extra $37 that comes off at checkout (the 15%).
- Ann Taylor is offering (through Friday night) an extra 60% off select styles and all sale styles with code WINTER60. Sister site Loft is 50% off sitewide with code Holiday50.
- Bloomingdale's is offering up to 75% off in their after Christmas sale.
- Last Call is offering an additional 30-60% off everything.
- Sephora has the sale on sale — an extra 20% off, online only.
- J.Crew is offering 30% off your purchase and an extra 40% off winter with code HOLIDAY. J.Crew Factory is offering 30% off full-price, and an extra 40% off sale, too, with code SALETIME.
- Finally: The Saks sale the day after Christmas is usually pretty killer as well!

I was going to buy all the Zella leggings on sale and when I went to check out – maybe 5 minutes later – they were no longer available. None of them. FYI.
a serious legging question
What does everyone wear to workout with leggings if you are, say, an apple/pear shape? I can’t seem find t-shirts long enough to cover stuff, and I’m not comfortable wearing a tank top or crop top like they’re being styled online.
ANP
I wear cheap v-neck Merona t-shirts from Target. They’re super thin and super long.
Wildkitten
I layer something baggy over a long tank top.

If anyone is here, HALP. I’m meeting my boyfriend’s family tomorrow for the first time. It’s Christmas, they’re all gathered round the fire, and I’m dropping in to a stranger’s house for 4 days. No pressure.
I’m a cook and a baker. I show my love through cooking. I’d love to show up with an edible hostess gift. A niece is allergic to nuts, so that’s out. I have a divine pound cake recipe. Would it be super strange to show up with a pound cake? It would, wouldn’t it? These people will hopefully be my next in-laws, so a plate of cookies feels entirely too insignicant. Wine is unnecessary, because the family has a running joke about their one favorite kind that they keep stores of.
What would you bring?! I’m thinking entirely too hard because I so want to make the best impression.

If someone showed up at my house with a divine pound cake on Christmas, I would be very, very happy. Go for it!

I now I want a Pound cake

I went to a questionably-platonic friend’s house last night and I took a platter of Nutella-stuffed chocolate chip cookies, arranged nicely, and everybody flipped. I think your pound cake is fine and not weird at all. :-)

Pound cake would be delicious. Cookies would be fine too, IMO. So would something like coffee cake, because that could be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Same with cinnamon rolls, bread or fancy pastries. I don’t think anyone would be upset by delicious food on Christmas.
You could also bring a plant like a Christmas cactus, if you wanted some other non-food option.

Pound cake is awesome! I tend to bring homemade jam or preserves – it looks like I spent ages and lots of effort on it, but it’s really like, two hours for eight or nine jars, with no fancy equipment needed? Stupidly easy. :)

I think that sounds lovely! Nothing strange about it all-a welcome gesture, I’m sure.

Sorry, that was in response to Anonymous about the pound cake.
