For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
Today's suit falls in the realm of “lucky sizes,” but it really is such a gorgeous suit (at such a great price) that we'd be remiss in not pointing it out. In addition to being a classic color and look, we love the wide neckline (perfect for flattering the clavicle) and the large buttons. Formerly $750 for the set, the jacket (Fringed Two Pocket Jacket) is now $123 (sizes 6, 10, 12, and 16 only), and the skirt ( Tonal Tweed Pencil Skirt) is now $62.50 (sizes 10 and 12 only).
In other suit-related news, we've now seen three or four suits, from different designers, with this sort of “bandaid” fabric construction. Personally, it's not our cup of tea, but we're curious what you guys think…

I was really tempted by this, but i can’t stand the fringe on the top. I do not like the frayed edges look. I also worry it may look a bit sparkly gold in person.
G
I agree about the fringe – my mother and I refer to fringed edges as “scarecrow.” This suit is far too “scarecrow” for me.

The suit I can take or leave, but the shoes they chose to style it with are awful! Completely wrong style and color.

Totally agree re the shoes. Never would have thought “black strappy sandal” with this. Needs a nice pump!
J
Amen!

I think it’s so pretty. Perfect for a client meeting in my line of work.

This looks very mother-of-the-bride at an afternoon wedding to me.

I totally agree! I was thinking it looked rather matronly to me. It’s something I can totally see some of the more “seasoned” attorneys locally wearing.

I adore the suit. I wish I was in the market for a new suit. Looks like both pieces are available in size 10, and I bet they could be tailored nicely to fit people who wear smaller sizes.
KLo
I love this, too. Beautiful.
k
Must have been popular, as the skirt is already sold out!

I like this suit but I think the effect of it together is too much. I think I’d always wear it as separates
Mel
I guess I am “seasoned” b/c I love this tweed suit. But the skirt is already gone. Also, I like the “bandaid” fabric suit – didn’t really make me think of bandaids. However, I would like it better if the texture were vertical, where it would be slimming, rather than horizontal.
MamaJD
I like this suit too. Too bad there aren’t any skirts available in my size. :-(
Heather
I liked the Anne Klein suit, but the sizes were even more limited when I checked, so no luck. It must have been popular. I am not sure about the “bandaid” fabric suit. I think it would be worth trying on to see how it looks.
MJ
I am not sure what you mean by “band-aid.” This suit is clearly derivative of the classic chanel tweed suit….yes, classic. So I don’t find this even remotely inappropriate.
Charity
A suit that expensive should not be made of polyester! Who do they think they’re kidding?
J
I was bracing myself for some serious fug for the “bandaid” suit, but actually I rather like it. It just looks textured to me — does it look different in person than it does in these pictures?
I am up in the air about the featured suit. I normally live and die for tweed, but I usually consider tweed to be a fall fabric. This seems a little too light for fall. Or am I wrong?
Sharon
From my early forties vantage point, I think it’s gorgeous for either a serious power-suit situation or the afternoon-wedding scenario.

I’m not entirely sure why the other suit is a “band-aid” suit, but I have to say that I really like it. The texture and styling give it a fun look that gives it a little more interest than the standard black suit.
As for the featured suit, I think there’s something about it that I don’t like. The buttons don’t do it for me and I think the styling with the black sandals and asymmetric rolled up sleeves makes it look a little off.
L
I think it’s band-aid b/c the buttons give the appearance of wrapping the jacket around your torso . . . ? I don’t care for the one in the link (buttons are odd), but I don’t dislike the style.
I do like this suit, and I’m not “seasoned.” It’s attention-getting as a full suit though, so I don’t know how likely I’d be to wear it.
MH
The “band-aid” suit is overpowering the torso. One of these decorations would add flair to a normal suit, but in combination they are far too much.

Pretty! I agree that this is the type of suit that you are most likely to see on women over 40, but I don’t think there’s anything matronly about it. I think it would look great on a younger woman with the confidence to pull it off.
As for the “band-aid” suit … I’m not sure if it’s the fabric type or the wrap-around style that is band-aid-like, but I’m fine with both. The buttons in this particular example are too much for me, but I think they would be fine for someone older or taller than I am (mid-20s and 5’3″).
L
I think the big buttons are what make it look old/matronly to me. I used to have a slightly similar tweed suit from BCBG that had invisible hook closures, and that was a lot younger-looking. You could switch out the buttons for smaller ones and it would look a lot better imo.

Wow. This really is such a beautiful departure from the basic black suit that we so often see. Gorgeous find.

I think the featured suit has a distinctive ladies-who-lunch look. I think the president of the benefit committee for the museum auxiliary board would look lovely in it at the luncheon/planning meetings.
I’m loving the linked suit from NM.

I like the suit, though am not sure I would ever wear it. But the asymetrical sleeves are really bugging me. Was this just pinned that way on the model, or are they really different lengths? If so, ick. And the shoes, definitely wrong.
C
tweed suit- nice, but I always wear something dark (black or charcoal) for a serious meeting. This would be fine for a non-serious meeting. Necklace would be too big for moi.
