Donna Karan Belted Stretch-Wool Jacket & Pencil SkirtFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

Graphics aside (it's like they're trying to sell a black suit in a darkened room! what the heck?), we like what we CAN see of this great suit from Donna Karan. Love the jacket's off-shoulder collar and high belt, and the contour seams of the pencil skirt strike us as flattering (even if they might require an underlayer of Spanx). The jacket (Donna Karan Collection Belted Stretch-Wool Jacket) is $1,495, and the skirt (Donna Karan Collection Pencil Skirt) is $550, both available at Bergdorf Goodman.

  1. If I win the lottery or receive an unexpected and sizable inheritance from a long lost relative, I am buying this suit.
The skirt looks like it may be a bit short, but so am I so that should not be a problem. Love it — gorgeous!

  2. Absolutely beautiful and completely out of budget! Would love to find something similar in a lower price range.

  3. I love this suit as well. Really lovely and classy, but I wonder if it’d be hard to pull off as a “younger” woman. The model is working it, but this sort of looks 40+ to me.

  4. Me no see nuffin (gotta adjust monitor settings, I guess…). Looks kinda St. John-ish …as far as I can tell (as Hillary Clinton would say).

  5. The day I can afford this is the day I am too fabulous to care that the skirt’s a bit short. Swoon.

    1. Exactly. When I can afford this, I’ll also be able to afford a personal trainer who will help me get my legs in shape so I can wear it. (I can dream, right?)

      1. The day I can afford this, I will wear it to showcase my perfectly-toned legs at a summit event for a highly effective human rights group and donate enough that I won’t be a hypocrite for wearing a $2K suit. I love our dream life!

  6. I love that she is about to fall over in the first picture and looks like she is about to faint in the second. That’s some creative modeling.

  7. I like what I see – which isn’t much. Why do stores make it tough to buy online? This is why I only purchase from Saks/Nordies online………

  8. don’t like. looks like it’s about to fall off her shoulders and skirt is too short. Not at all impressed.

  9. I think this may be the first time Corporette has made me cry. I cannot afford that beautiful suit.

  10. Threadjack . . . I am both creeped out and intrigued by the Zappos.com ad at the top of the page that is showing me shoe suggestions obviously based on ones I have purchased there in the past for myself and my children.

  11. It is almost Cruella DeVille, in the best way possible. I’d want to smoke a cigarette from the longest cigarette holder (do those things have a name?) possible while talking about puppies and saying ‘dahling’.
    Too much?

  12. The more I look at it, the more I think it might look like a wife-of-a-powerful-man suit, as opposed to a powerful-woman suit. But I still love it.

  13. Love the suit, but would be hard pressed to find the perfect shell to wear underneath.

  14. This is very retro, very Mad Men. I think you must wear it with a black collarless blouse that pretty much matches the suit. It is too “too too” for the courtroom and defintely not right for the office. Suppose you were costuming a character in a Broadway play in this suit. Who would that character be? Hard to say. I have never seen a real person dressed in this manner. In a lighter color it might be “rich man’s girlfriend”.

  15. My lord that is stunning! Not the kind of suit for everywoman (by a long shot) but personally, I’d rock the heck out of that thing if I could afford it. It’s age appropriate for those of us above 35, but still shapely and fashionable.

The severe hair and red lipstick do give a whiff of Cruella, but that’s all in the styling. Softer hair, a slightly lower neckline and a flattering necklace would lower the dragon lady quotient without destroying the sensibilities of the suit.
