Wednesday’s TPS Report: Vince – Fingerpaint Pencil Skirt

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend. Oooh, what a great update on a plaid skirt — we're loving the pattern and the muted grays in this silk/spandex pencil skirt from Vince. We'd choose one other color to wear it with — perhaps a purple blouse and purple pumps, or black tee and pumps and then a coral red necklace. Beautiful, modern yet classic, and on sale with lots of sizes left. Done, and done. It's now $141 at Saks Fifth Avenue (was $235). Vince – Fingerpaint Pencil SkirtSales of note for 1/16/25:

At first glance, this looked like something acid-washed. I was horrified. On closer inspection, it’s quite lovely.
If you weigh a hundred pounds maybe… This skirt even makes that thin model look hippy (and not in the 60s pot smoking way).
I don’t know. It looks a little wild for work, but that could just be the bright yellow sweater they have it paired with.
Weird! My friend was just wearing this yesterday and I was complimenting her on it. She wore it with black pumps and a sweater. The sweater was shorter and more polished, so it looked better for work.
I bought this skirt when it first hit stores and wear it once every week or two and always get compliments. I wear it either with a white tank and long cardigan (similar to the way it is shown in the picture, but the cardigan is a bit heavier, slightly shorter, and a saturated nectarine color) and heels, or with a longish teal sweater and heels. I’m a size 6/8 and I don’t think it makes me look hippy (or no more so than any other skirt) but because of the fabric, if you are going to tuck in your top, it needs to fit snugly or you will be bumpy. I don’t think it is too casual (but I live in Seattle), although I wouldn’t wear it to court and probably wouldn’t wear it to meet clients (for clients, at the very least it would need to be topped with a sweater or a shorter cardigan).
