Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
We're noticing an ever-so-slight Victorian bent to clothes for fall — a lot of high collars, ruffles, and so forth, and this jacket by Charlie & Robin fits nicely in with the trend. We're normally opposed to ruffles at work, but we like the stand-up collar of the jacket, its tailored nature, and the fact that this is a boiled wool, giving it a bit more substance than many things that are ruffled. We'd wear it with gray slacks and perhaps a colorful tee — a grassy green, or perhaps a maroon — and very simple jewelry. Available at Anthropologie for $128 in black, brown, and purple. I love this jacket, but oh would it look terrible on curvy me!
LOVE this jacket – have already planned a budget for my friend to save up and purchase it (I like zee am too curvy … and very disappointed about that right now).
Hmm. Look at it on the Anthropologie site. In pale brown. You can see the ruffles more clearly. There are A LOT of ruffles. That said, I love the jacket and agree that the boiled wool is a fabulous design choice. I’d wear this for an occasion when I was presenting at a meeting or conference. One where I was far away, and needed to make an impression. Up close it might be overpowering.
Wouldn’t being curvy balance the ruffles out a little bit? Since it looks like they get much larger on the bottom, maybe a nice bust would even things out. Has anybody tried it on?
way way too many ruffles.
Yikes — WAY too many ruffles. I did like LPC suggested and looked at the pale brown one. Yikes.
My boss just wore a purple version of this yesterday. (Not this exact brand.) It was adorable.
A curvaceous women in these gorgeous ruffles would be fabulous for a social occasion, but for an office, it might be a bit much. Maybe for a sit-down dinner at a conference? With a very plain thin sweater underneath, fairly high-cut neck, so you don’t have to deal with men trying to peer past the ruffles to your cleavage, I hate that. I do like that it says you can hand-wash it. That would be a pain, but my dry-cleaner would charge me a fortune to deal with this.
I think this is gorgeous, but am not sure I’d wear it at the office. That’s pretty much how I feel about everything from Anthropologie, though. I drool all over the catalogue, but rarely buy anything because I’m not sure what I’d wear it to.
I love boiled wool, and I love blazers in general, so I might buy this as a rare non-work-clothes purchase.
Oooh…I was liking this until I saw it in the lighter brown. That other row of ruffles toward the arms is just too much. If it were just at the edges it would be nice.
I am loving this and would wear it in black or purple with a darker grey pencil skirt. Then again, I’d also pair it with peeptoe pumps, so take my opinion with a grain of salt! For me, it would do double duty, as I’d pair it with jeans and a silky cami for a night out.
I would buy it in purple and wear it to a Prince concert.
That was funny.
Too ruffley for me to wear, but very cute. And so glad to see Anthropologie on here!
Oh, I adore ruffles!
I need that jacket in purple! It is gorgeous. And since I’m still a law student I can get away with it :-)
Love the Prince comment! Too funny! I think it is pretty, but on me it would be rather va-va-voom.
I try to stay away from ruffles and smocking and leave them to my young daughters.
We’re normally opposed to ruffles at work…
I agree with others that this jacket has way too many ruffles for work (or for my taste in general, for that matter), but generally opposed to ruffles at work? I have a few ruffled pieces that when paired correctly look great for work. I thought that was a strange comment considering that ruffles are very “in” right now and can still look professional in moderation. For instance, I just bought this and I love it:

And I’ve been pining after this one for under a suit but haven’t bought it yet:

I love it! It would be perfect with jeans and flats for casual Fridays at my firm. :)
I was stalking this jacket online last weekend! I prefer the darker colors (purple, black) as the ruffles look a bit too frou-frou in the lighter brown. Worn with a black pencil skirt and ankle boots, with the hair pulled back in a low side bun and a dash of red lipstick, it goes from from sweet and girly to downtown chic.
Love it! Love it! Love it!
I love it, but I would probably choose it either in black or the purple. The ruffles is a bit too much for me in the lighter color.
one can never have too many ruffles. can’t wait to get this in purple!
love! This jacket. I ordered it in purple Friday thinking it would be here today Tuesday, but I receievd the notification that it is on backorder until Nov. 4th.
Very Sad!
