  1. Hello out there. An intimate question on this chilly Saturday: does anyone epilate the bikini area? Shaving leaves stubble and waxing is so expensive (and I hate the growing out period). I’m thinking about getting a brazilian and then maintaining with an epilator. Any advice/ experience to weigh in with? Thanks in advance!

    1. I know somebody around here does–they posted about it a few weeks ago. I’ve used an epilator for legs/underarms without a problem, but the one time I tried it anywhere near the bikini area, I couldn’t handle the pain and gave up!

    2. have you tried Moom waxing products? They have great strips and are available on amazon. I use the strips on my bikini area and have found it to be comparable to going to the salon. For the area near the groin – where the thigh meets the lower hip area and my leg hair gets thicker, I use an epilator for touch-ups in between waxing with Moom.
If you want full hair removal, akin to brazilian, I think the epilator would take a lot of getting used to.

    1. I have the regular Clarisonic and use Clinique liquid facial soap with it but my friends who have it all use different products. I think the only thing you’re supposed to avoid is stuff that has grainy particles in it like some exfoliating scrubs.

    2. Yup, except the ones with particles in them. I use the Neutrogena face wash that comes in the squat square bottle.

  2. how does the non-sports fan portion of the hive deal with a predominantly male workforce discussing sports? I work in Big Finance, so open floor plan, no offices. With the Patriots game tonight, I’m guaranteed at least two hours of football conversation on Tuesday. Heaven forbid that I have a work-related interruption. I’m already in a different demographic from my co-workers, who are all middle-aged men with three children (no joke, every one of them) and these types of conversations just make me feel like an outsider.

    1. You know, however this game goes (and I have to say I can’t see the Broncos winning – then again I was stunned last week), they will have a day to get over it so it won’t be quite as bad as if you were going in on Monday. I’d say let them get it out of their system. It’ll pass.

I’m in a mostly female office of rabid Saints fans and none of the men are even interested in sports.

        1. Yeah you’re right. It was sad. I was sick to my stomach during the whole first quarter and almost left to go to the gym because I couldn’t watch. Good game but didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to.

    2. Take a look at all the handsome men on the Pats and comment on that haha. To be honest it’ll be over in 3 weeks I would just do your best to tune out.

    3. Could you possibly become a fan if someone explained it to you? There’s more of then than there are of you and it may be smart to learn the sport.
My policy on sports is that I’ll watch it if you explain it to me and answer my questions (and keep my drink full).

    4. Ask some polite questions to feign interest, and show that you realize playoff football is kind of a big deal, culturally, in most of the U.S. Then tune them out (maybe get headphones, if it’s that distracting). It will be over in a few weeks.

      p.s. Go Ravens! :-)

  3. My wife loves this site. I got her an IPad for Christmas and she needs some sort of cover/case for it, but doesn’t know what to get.
I told her to post here and ask but she hasn’t done it yet, so I am doing it for her. Any ideas?

    1. Capitol Hill Style had a good roundup of iPad covers a month or two ago – I’d suggest looking there.

    2. I have the Logitech keyboard case, made by Zagg. I will post a link in the next reply. I got it for less than the $99 price noted on Zagg’s website. I think my fiance bought it at Costco for about $65. It protect well b/c it is hard, doesn’t add a lot of bulk (so iPad still fits in my purse) and makes typing so much easier.

    3. I have 3 covers (dont ask) and actually like all of them.

I have the basic apple magnet cover (in a pretty girly pink). This is actually the one i use most often because its light weight and easy.

I have the logitech Zagg keyboard case mentioned below, which i use when i am traveling for work. its a little heavy, which is why i dont use it all the time.

And finally, I also have a marc jacobs zip sleeve in black that is stylish and protects more than the pink number.

  4. I just got an iPad for my birthday Wednesday and immediately ordered a cover from Amazon w overnight shipping. It’s the iPearl in red and it was only ~$25 and I just ordered it to have something to protect the iPad until I find the cover of my dreams. That said, for not much dough, it’s pretty nice. It had lots of positive reviews.

I’m looking forward to seeing the answers you get. I’d love to have one in a really fine leather, like Coach’s model for men (the Bleeker, I think) but I’d rather not buy from Coach right now. (long story.)

  5. I would like to go on vacation to a place where I can meet cute guys who are interested in a relationship, not just sex.

Does anyone know of such a place?

    1. Why just vacation there if you really want a relationship? Do you want to break some hearts?
Ellen, is that you? It’s OK, hon.

    2. On the off chance that this is not a troll, singles cruises/vacations seem like the right choice.

    3. What about traveling someplace else with a group of people from near where you live? That way, you meet people who might be local or — better — who might know good local matches for you. Also, if they’re on your trip, they’re interested in the same experiences you are, so that’s a good sign. I’m thinking groups sponsored by a local university or a local Jewish Community Center or a local organization.

    4. Many university alumni organizations offer singles-friendly trips. At least then, it would be likely you’d be going with people from your area and with whom you share something in common. I’m not sure the destination matters all that much, but I would think the closer to home the better for meeting someone there.

  6. ‘Rettes, I just applied for my dream job in NYC and, from what I can tell, it would be mutual perfect fit.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

  7. So did anyone else get that creepy security breach email from 6pm and zappos? Anyone doing anything about it? I don’t even remember what password I used there so I’m not sure what passwords I need to change elsewhere. I really hate this!

    1. I got the email from Zappos. Went directly to the website instead of through the link in the email just in case it was a scam, but it appears to be legit. According to the email, the hack only leaked your “cryptographically scrambled password,” which technically means that the hacker should not be able to unscramble it. But you’re right, it’s better to reset any passwords that are the same as your Zappos password.

I use KeePass to keep all of my passwords so that I can use different passwords at different sites. (There’s no way I would remember them otherwise.) It’s free and easy to carry on a USB on your keychain, and the whole app is password protected itself so if I were to lose the USB, it wouldn’t be a problem.

    2. I use 1Password, which is available for just about every single computer/smartphone platform out there, to randomly generate passwords. That way, when something like this happens (which it inevitably will — this is the 4th time in the past year or so), I just go to the site and randomly generate a new password.

      1. Yeah, but it’s $50. I’m not paying $50 for something which you can find free online.

        1. I got 1Password for free and got my mom a copy for $20. You just need to look around for discount codes. 1Password has superior browser integration vs KeePass and is more friendly to non-techies. It doesn’t really matter what you use, it’s all an improvement over using the same password for every online shopping site so that you’re extremely vulnerable when one of the sites gets hacked!

  8. I’ve been lurking around Corporette for the past few weeks and have to say that I have really enjoyed the discussions and advice. I’m wondering if now you’d be willing to bestow some of that advice on me! I just got an interview for a 1L summer job at a mid-sized firm in my secondary home market for this Friday. I’m very excited; however, I realized (to my absolute horror) that the original cover letter that I sent to the firm last week contained the wrong firm name. This was pointed out to me by the legal secretary with whom I’ve been arranging the interview. She was very sweet about it, and I’ve sent a corrected letter. However, she’s already e-mailed my resume and the original cover letter to the partners with whom I’ll be interviewing on Friday. She said she’d be sure to print the corrected copy for each of them (and that often they don’t look at the emailed copy), but I’m so embarrassed that these partners have already seen such a silly mistake from me. Any advice on how I should handle this on Friday? This firm has a reputation for being “laid back,” but this is a pretty ridiculous mistake on my part. Should I hope no one noticed and pretend it didn’t happen unless someone brings it up? Own up to it right away and point out “lesson learned”? I’d really appreciate any word of wisdom from you all. Thanks!

    1. First off, congrats! I wouldn’t bring it up until someone else does. In most my interviews, the interviewers were only given copies of my resume anyway.

      1. Agreed that you should not bring it up unless an interviewer does. In all likelihood, some won’t even read your cover letter. But, do be prepared to address it if it comes up. It sounds like they will be receiving the correct letter in hard copy, but if you’re going to be carrying a folio, I would suggest taking hard copies of the corrected letter that you can hand to an interviewer if they bring it up (and don’t have a hard copy of the corrected letter already). As for what you should say, keep it brief and own the mistake completely — that was a careless mistake for which I apologize, as soon as I realized it, I sent a corrected letter (and here’s a copy, if necessary).

    2. don’t bring it up. if they do (and i would be a little surprised if they do), address it – like you said, lesson learned. that cover letter was probably one of roughly four billion that you did all at the same time – statistically you were bound to screw one of them up.

my senior year of college, when applying to grad schools (did not intend to be a lawyer – had planned to get a ph.d in literature and be a professor), my personal statement for two schools started off with an anecdote about attending a cheerleading competition there when i was in high school. i actually did attend competitions at both schools. both schools have distinctive names for the indoor arenas in which the competitions were held. i wrote and finalized the statement for school 1, and then forgot to change the distinctive name when printing off the statement for school 2. i was incredibly embarrassed when i realized it a few days later. (for what it’s worth, i ended up getting into the school where i goofed up the name and NOT the one where i got the name right.)

    3. Thanks for your replies! You’ve confirmed my gut reaction. It’s embarrassing, but it happens. I appreciate the suggestion to bring hard copies of the corrected letter with me – I will be sure to do that. You all have made me feel better. Thanks :)

  9. I’m traveling soon for a moot court competition, and I was hoping for some advice from those who have participated in these competitions in the past. What would you wear? What would you pack? What do you wish you’d done differently? Also, does anyone have issues with garter belt buckles showing under skirt suits. I hate wearing pantyhose, and I was hoping for an alternative. Thanks!

  10. i love the Sophia dress ,Although the Talbots Grace Fit jackets fit me well through the bust and stomach, I’ve found that cut to be extremely boxy. I haven’t tried the other cuts yet.

  11. Buyer Beware! Don’t order this!!!!!- it runs extremely small. I ordered a 6 Petite and it is way too small. (6 Petite consistently fit at Talbots and Brooks Bros). I think J. Crew is unloading these dresses which are not labeled correctly, and “final sales can not be returned”. Don’t waste your money.
