Quick wedding gift etiquette question: we recently attended a wedding and per the registry, we made charitable donations to two of the organizations the couple provided. Should we send a card letting them know about the donations (obviously just the name of the organizations)? It feels a bit odd to send a card, but I am not sure if the organizations will let them know. I don’t care about getting a thank you note, but I do want them to know we didn’t forget to give a gift. Thoughts?
I work in the non-profit sector and did gift acknowledgement for a while. The policy around acknowledgements for tribute gifts varies widely by organization. Most organizations would notify the honoree, assuming you clearly indicated that the donations were in honor of so & so’s wedding and that the donations were above a certain threshold (which can vary greatly and typically depends on the size of the non-profit). You could definitely follow up with the organizations themselves and ask for their policy around tribute gift acknowledgement, but I also think that it would be appropriate to send a card to the couple, congratulating them on the wedding and other well wishes and note that donations were made in their honor to Organization X and Organization Y.
I think you can print out the confirmation page and stick it in a card if you want. Or you can put a note in your card to them.
I wouldn’t depend on the non-profit to tell them. They probably don’t have their contact info.
I have an interview tomorrow!!! Small firm, not big law, but clients are businesses.
Re: Interview suit: Talbots suit sheath dress with jacket or Brooks Brothers pants suit (i.e., a suit I’d wear in federal court)? The sheath dress fits better, but the material is not as nice as the Brooks Brothers. I think I know the answer here. BB, right?
Yes, BB. But you knew that! Good luck!
