I was terminated without cause twice in one year after having a baby and going on maternity leave. My billing was always good, my attendance was great, I participated in activities and I think people liked me. However the first boss was bent on getting rid of me when I told him I was pregnant and my second job was at a company that didn’t see any “long term potential” in me and thought I was “offbrand”. It’s been a long year and kind of depressing. I’ve had two good payouts and been employed for the entire year but it’s been emotionally devestating because I love my work and I had always believed I was valued and liked.
Started my own buisness two weeks ago and I’ve broken even for the month so far factoring in bar costs, insurance costs, rent, startup and daycare. So that was some good news for me and I needed that.

Holy crap you broke even in the first month?! Day-um girl. Congratulations!

Lol. I am good at what I do. Apparently that’s not enough when you have a baby though in an entirely make field. I was amazed that even though I was generating money for two employers they thought it was worth it to pay me to go away.

Your story is inspiring! Employers can be sooo awful to us but working for self is scary, yet so many say often better. Very proud of you!

I stil cry about it sometimes. If I had been underperforming or had the lowest billables or bad reviews or didn’t bring in clients I would have understood being fired. I did good work at both jobs, I was just told by both employers that they didn’t see any long term potential. It continues to be devestating.
