I have to say that the article on frugality attacks the frugalwoods blog in an unnecessary way. It boils down to ‘you need a lot of privilege to reach FI at such a young age’ when the bloggers have written extensively about their privilege and constantly acknowledge how their path is not a blueprint for every case.
On the other hand, when I read any of the numerous articles that criticize FI blogs, none of them ever point out the sheer luck of getting into the market 10years ago, and taking full advantage of stock values bouncing back. That’s something you can’t predict or time, so readers can’t replicate this pattern. Yet a lot of frugal bloggers who reached FI recently must have been helped by this effect, and nobody ever mentions it.

I disagree. I though the article fairly noted that the frugalwoods acknowledge their privilege, but that it is not really discussed. I am skeptical of any FI blogger who refuses to disclose their income or more fully explain how they reached FI.

Yes, and on the flip side, as a financial planner, I’m curious to see how many FI bloggers will still be actively claiming FI/early retirement during and after the next recession.
Not intended to be a downer, but some of the logic I’ve seen in withdrawal rates, etc. is pretty generous and optimistic.

I have become fruegel ever since it has become ovious to me that decent men are not going to marry me, onley the ones that want my bank account or just to use me for s-x. I told Dad that I am not always goeing to be as pretty as I am now, so therefore I need to get a man now, before my looks fade and my tuchus expands. He agrees, but does NOT like all the men I bring home for him to examine. He is right b/c they are just lookeing at me for s-x or at best, for my paycheck, and then they would probabley be cheating on me while I was working hard to bring home that paycheck. DOUBEL FOOEY!
