Holiday cards with just a photo of our pets — yay or nay? My husband and I can’t seem to get it together to take a good picture of us, but we’ve got plenty of our pets.
I’d vote nay. Your recipients have a relationship with you! (They’re just nodding acquaintances with your pets.)
Agreed. I would want to see you!
I think it’s fine. Also PSA: Zazzle has 60% off Christmas cards through tomorrow.
I say nay, and I’m a dog person. A photo of you and your pets is wonderful. Just your pets? Meh, I don’t know them and I want to see my friends. (Fwiw I feel the same way about people that send photos of just their kids..I want to see my friends!)
Take one with the pets!
Vicky is right. Why not have you and your pooch in the picture. It is clear that you are attached to the pooch, so put him in the picture. This way, you can comment positively about the pooch on the PHONE without being forced to come in person and pet the slobbering dog who is sorely in need of a bath. Grandma Trudy has Nadia, an old collie dog that has breathe almost worse then Sheketovits (if that is possible). Of course, I did not have to Kiss Nadia, but it is awful getting within 5 feet of that mouth. FOOEY! Sheketovits was always trying to kiss me to get me to do things with my mouth that were unpalateable and I did not feel comfortable doing. DOUBEL FOOEY ON HIM!
I”m a strong nay. I’d prefer a quick selfie to a photo of pets. I like you! I want to see you!
haha I say yes, do it, but then again I’m mostly interested in seeing your pet (if it’s a dog or a horse). This is the reason most of the IG accounts I follow are dog accounts.
I am very sympathetic because DH and I are photo assassins (almost impossible to get a photo with both of us with our eyes open and less than 1000 chins each) and our pets are super cute. We do always try and include one picture of us. I usually opt for a card style where the photo of us is on the front but not that big and then put a big picture of the pets on the back.
Ha, I send out Christmas cards with my cat every year. They’re actually Meowy Catsmas cards :P
Same here! The majority of my cards are for my “cat friends” I’ve made through my Instagram account for my cats. Some friends and family get cards too. I really don’t think they care that me and my husband are not on the cards.
I’m a yay – I don’t ever not want to see a picture of a dog.
Just a thought – find a high ledge in your house & use your phone’s camera timer feature to take some selfies of the two of you. Once you play around with placement, it’s not too hard to get a photo of the two of you together & you can include your pets if you’d like. FWIW, I’m happy to get any card, but I especially love them when they come with people.
Kat, I read the Above the Law article about the best law schools for women, https://abovethelaw.com/2018/11/the-best-law-schools-for-women-2019/
and thought that mabye they were talking about GW, but then I saw it was Washington University in St Louis! Why wasn’t GW on the list? There are alot of jobs on the Hill that women get coming out of GW. What kind of expereince can a woman get in St. Louis? Does the HIVE have any answers for us here? Is St. Louis a Place women can gather and feel comfortable with? I hope so, but let’s hear it directly from the HIVE! YAY!!!!
Facing about 12 hours of car travel over the next 72 hours with my SO…any favorite podcasts that he and I might both enjoy? Current shared favorites include Art of Manliness, Freakanomics, Fresh Air, and Hidden Brain.
Radiolab!
I absolutely love Lexicon Valley, from Slate. It’s about language (word origins, usages, generally why people talk certain ways).

I read the article about apps to track a cycle, then got part of the way through the linked article written by a queer woman.
While I am sympathetic to the idea that not everyone using those apps is in a physical, heterosexual relationship (because that also describes me), I found it a bit weird, and sad, why she didn’t know that her fertile window is helpful information in a queer relationship. For most women, the fertile window is also when they are the most excited.
It’s just sad that we teach women so little about how our bodies work… and then pink up the technology that is supposed to help.
