My teenage step daughter douses herself in body mist spray and she smells like a Bath & Bodyworks bomb exploded. I’ll take it over teen boy BO, but it’s a lot of scent. I love a return of low-rise jeans, but I could have skipped the return of body spray.

Had anyone considered retiring abroad as a permanent resident? Wondering which countries might be suitable for an English speaker without any family ties except in the US.

Post again on Monday’s morning thread; one of the regular posters (I think CB?) has mentioned her parents retired to Portugal (and I think she mentioned once they don’t speak Portuguese)

As a counterpoint, my parents retired in America to a beautiful area that in Washington that was a good 3 hour drive from Seattle. They both had major health scares where they wanted to be close to a major, specialty medical center. After that they moved to be within 30 minutes of a major city. I think this sounds like a great plan until you have serious health issues, and you don’t know when those are going to come up. Caveat that other countries can have very good medical care within their systems. However, if you want cutting edge care and treatment options, then moving abroad for a cheaper lifestyle could be difficult.

We considered it, particularly France but the monetary/financial part of it didn’t seem feasible for some reason. I have heard Portugal is friendlier in that sense to ex-US pats retiring to Portugal. Look into it and see what is worth it. But I would also second the commenter who mentioned her parents retired to an area 3 hours outside Seattle. There are some beautiful places in the US that offer affordable living in retirement.
