Tech Open Thread: Chrome Problems?

Hi guys — I am getting a number of reports from readers that seem to suggest the blog is having problems with the Chrome browser (and possibly other browsers too). Please chime in here if you're having ANY tech problems — please describe what they are, and which browser you're using. The two problems that I've heard are:

a) all comments going to Spam (i.e., not appearing, ever) since switching to Chrome — we do not check the Spam filter regularly and it gets about 80,000 spam comments per month, so if this is your problem, we need a unique word to look up in there — a username, a made-up word, etc works fine.

b) automatic redirection to an advertisers' page after 15 seconds — just this morning, someone complained that in Chrome the website was redirecting her to an advertisers website after 15 seconds or so of being on the site — that shouldn't be happening, so I'd definitely want to hear about it. (Also — is it one particular advertiser? Several? One from a particular spot on the page?)  Thanks…

Thank you guys so much for your input and patience with us — email us through the “tech problems” comment at the bottom of the comments box if you're having problems. The more information we get the sooner we can fix this! Thank you!

  1. I use firefox, and frankly, I don’t comment on this site as much because I constantly get the “you’re posting comments too quickly please slow down” message.

    1. That’s a spam problem – the likely way to change that would be to require sign-in or human verification of some sort. I msy try to experiment with either or both over at c-moms to see the pros and cons.

    2. Same. I get this issue all the time in Chrome so I just don’t comment most of the time.

  2. I use Chrome, and all my comments go to moderation, (likely, even this one). I’ve reported to tech twice, and I know I’m not the only one with this issue.

        1. Same here, on Chrome. Very occasional moderation which I assume is for e-t-t-e word endings or links.

    1. I did, too. Today is the first time I’ve experienced it, though. Also, I got a “posting too quickly” response the first time I tried to respond to this.

    2. +1 – I was the emailer from this morning with this problem Kat. Didn’t have it when I used IE, but I refuse to use IE regularly!

  3. I use Chrome and (b) has been happening to me regularly. I also almost always get an error when I post that says “Slow down! You’re posting too quickly!”

  4. I’m on Chrome and haven’t been having any issues. I click over to your site from Digg Reader. I also opened the website in a new tab in Chrome and am not having redirection issues either.

  5. Not sure if Chrome for Android is related, but I use that for a lot of my commenting and almost never have problems.

  6. I post from Chrome and always get “posting too quickly” but I just hit refresh until it posts.

  7. On safari on iPhone: searching for corporette sends me to a sign-up page for MySpace. It actually auto fills “corporette — MySpace” in the search bar.

  8. I use the incognito (private browsing) side of Chrome and haven’t any unusual problems lately. Just the occasional “posting too fast” that comes up occasionally.

  9. Hi, I’m using the windows browser and after a few seconds on the website an ad came up for headphones that lasted 30 seconds and wouldn’t let me get back on corporette until the ad was over.

  10. I use the Ghostery extension for Chrome and I get almost no ads anywhere, for those who might be interested. It also disables the annoying “have to watch it first” ads on YouTube and any auto-play video or sound ads.
