in Fashion, The Personal Shopper (TPS)

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Women: Shirred cardigan - true black knit

We’re loving the shape of this classic short-sleeved cardigan. It’s the details that stand out — the shirring at the neck, the curve of the neckline, and the way the sleeves hit your elbows — perfect. We’d wear this on a brutally hot day to cover a sleeveless tank or dress. Was $50, now on sale at the Gap in a variety of colors, sizes, and prices. (The black is currently $44.) There’s a similar cardigan at Banana right now that’s on sale for about this same price . . . have to think the quality would be better (although maybe it’s exactly the same thing).

Really? Love your site, but this looks slouchy.

oooh, love it! wish it came in better colours, though.

I bought an amazing Elle black cardigan last weekend at Kohl’s clearance sale for $10 – 3-quarter puff sleeves, understated front-ruching, very flattering and well-tailored. Kohl’s still has a great selection of Elle black cardigans at its site – although not the one I bought. I also scored several pairs of Elle dark wash, tailored jeans (perfect for the small civil rights firm where I work) and a Vera Wang jacket, all for $10 each.
