Suit of the Week: Talbots

Talbots Jackie Fit Ponte Jewel-Neck JacketFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

So I never thought I’d say this, but: I really like this pink suit. I think it looks classic but also slightly playful — and I think the pieces would work great as separates, as well. It’s nice that there are a lot of pieces to the set (two jackets, a sheath dress, an A-line skirt, and bootcut pants), and that they’re all on sale (and available in black as well). The jacket (Talbots Jackie Fit Ponte Jewel-Neck Jacket) was $169 but is now marked to $94.49, and the skirt (Ponte A-Line Skirt) was $99, now marked to $55.49.

Open Thread: What Latest Tech Do You Love?

We haven’t talked about technology finds for a while, so I thought I’d ask — what have you guys been using and loving? I’ve been thinking about trying some of the many sleep apps that are out there, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

The latest techie thing that I’ve been using and loving are these Foscam cameras, both to monitor my son as well as to monitor his caregivers, whether it be the babysitter or a family member. (Yes, everyone knows they’re on camera.) [Read more…]

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Color-tipped Blazer

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Banana Republic Color Tipped BlazerReader A wrote in to recommend this Banana Republic blazer, noting, “I tried on this blazer at the store, and it truly is a work of art. It’s a heavy weight cotton, navy with cream piping. It’s fully lined inside, with pink contrast trim on the edges. Would be a great jacket to add to your spring collection.” I like it! It looks classic, particularly for spring and summer — I can see it looking great with everything from white, light gray, or solid-colored skirts or sheath dresses — I also think you could have a bit of fun with prints, either in the realm of navy (as shown here) or with complementary colors. It’s $150 at Banana Republic, but today only take 29% off full-priced styles with code BRLEAPYEAR, bringing it down to $106.50. Banana Republic Color Tipped Blazer

Coffee Break – Lancaster Wedge Pump

Corso Como Women's Lancaster Wedge Pump Ooh, cute wedge pump from Corso Como. I only have one pair of Corso Como shoes, but the leather on them is so soft — I can imagine these are as well. I’ve pictured the brown (which has the most sizes left), but it’s also available in a more reddishy brown “Ginger,” as well as black. They were $155, but are now marked to $77.50-$79.50 at Endless. (P.S. Amazon has it as well, although depending on the size and the color their price is anywhere from $69-$145.)

The Gentlemanly Limp Hand

Untitled, originally uploaded to Flickr by ginnerobot.Reader C has a great question about sexism disguised as gentlemanly behavior:

I am a woman in a male dominated field (architecture). Many times I am the only woman in a meeting. All of the guys shake hands upon introductions. When it’s my turn, they hesitate or give me a lame shake the tips of my fingers. This really bothers me. I don’t have any desire to talk football with the guys, but I think it’s rude not to offer the same courtesy. I don’t think this topic has come up before on Corporette. I would be interested to see what other women think and have experienced.

I haaaaaaaaaaaate that limp handshake. I really, really do. It’s always seemed based in notions of gentlemanly demeanor, as if our frail little hands might be crushed — or a forceful handshake might be too passionate. (Ladies, clutch your pearls — did you see that handshake he gave her?) (Pictured: Untitled, originally uploaded to Flickr by ginnerobot.)

Tuesday’s TPS Report: Polka Dot Tie Neck

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Love!  Call me crazy, but I think this navy polka-dotted silk blouse from Tibi would look amazing with a sleek black suit.  If you’re not feeling the navy-on-black thing, though, I’d wear it with white or dark gray pants, or a more vibrant hue, like a deep purple pencil skirt.  It’s $298 at Bloomingdale’s.
