smooth sticky buttons to put on the bottom of appliances to help them slide

Over at CorporetteMoms we have a category for the morning posts — “make my life easier.” And this is one of those things that definitely has made my life easier recently, so even though it's a bit unusual for a coffee break, I'm going to recommend it here. These are little stickers that you put on the bottom of appliances so you can push and pull them out easier.

I put them on the bottom of our air fryer and our Ninja ice cream maker, but not our air popper because it looked like it would be hard to avoid the vents and hey, it's an air popper so it's lightweight. I'm pondering putting them in the bottom of our coffee maker and electric kettle, too. For all of these things I try to pull them way out so they're not letting off steam directly underneath a cabinet, and then push them back against the wall when they're done… it is early days with these little sliders but they're doing exactly what I wanted them to do, and were very easy to apply.

Recommend! They're under $10 at Amazon.

  1. I’m short-term bloated for Reasons and have a beach trip coming up. Recs for decent swimwear at an inexpensive (let’s say less than $50-$60 per suit) price point that aren’t Lands End, which makes me feel like a total frump at every fitness level?

I’m in my 40s, looking for either tankinis or one-pieces that accommodate a long torso.

    1. oh, and as far as style – this is for lounging, walking, and floating around, not beach volleyball or exercise swimming. Style tends to be more classic & clean lines, not sporty, ruffly, flowery.

Not sure this is what you are looking for, but I bought this swim suit at the beginning of last summer and it is still going strong. I like the shorts because they cover the top of my thighs but they are not long like board shorts. They feel like just a bit more coverage than a regular bottom. This is a tankini so easy to go to the bathroom. The top stays in place and has ample coverage.

    3. I have several swimsuits from Miraclesuit and Skinny Dippers by Miraclesuit from postmark at the price point. I can’t speak on a long torso, but they have many different styles.

    4. A bit over your budget but Freya. Great support which just cuts down on my overall feelings of frump. Otherwise, I’m a fan of just buying mismatched options from Target in prints I like and calling it a day. Same thing I did from Old Navy as a teenager, it just now has underwire.

  2. I do not understand how someone can consistently misspell my name when it’s in every email and every signature. They just messaged me on Teams and they still misspelled it. My name is right there!

    1. Not an excuse although perhaps it will provide a giggle: no matter how many times and ways I have tried to prevent this, my autocorrect changes my own typed-in name to a completely unrelated non-name word. Think Shelly becomes Gelled.

    2. My boss will often misspell my name on teams and it’s like…. seriously dude I do half your job for you (no it’s not my job, we actually have to hide that I do a lot of his stuff), at least spell my name right.

    3. I have had clients who misspelled my name for decades, and that’s easier to take. You’re paying me? You can spell my name any way you like. Co-workers need to get it right.

    4. I always do my very best to get names right and I apologize if I mess it up, but I will say that emailing a “Mathew” and a “Susin” made life harder than it needed to be.

    5. Preaching to the choir. Work with an international team who consistently get my nickname wrong. Proper name is always fine. But my nickname is a common nickname in English speaking countries for my formal name (think Mike / Michael) but not all languages. It’s like you are so close, how do you still get it wrong.

    6. Are you me? Coworkers of 15+ years still misspell mine. Been tempted to start deliberately misspelling theirs.

Yes, my parents chose a non-standard but perfectly legitimate way to spell my name. It’s not weirdly kre8tif or anything and in fact is simpler than the more usual spelling.

    7. Ugh I go so firmly by the short version of my name that I sign all my emails with it, it’s in my signature block, it’s on my Linkedin… and yet some people insist on calling me the full name… even when it’s someone who goes firmly by a nickname themselves.

I got a peer off of it by starting to call him his full name… but can’t do that with the guy in the c-suite unfortunately.

  3. Any fixes for dry eyes and eyestrain?

I’ve worn soft contacts for 20+ years and would like to continue, but even brand-new lenses are uncomfortable. I live in the desert and my job is 85% screen time. I’m trying special computer glasses and dry-eye drops at night – any other ideas?

    1. How old are you? By my mid-40s I stopped tolerating my soft contacts, even dailies. If you have to wear special computer glasses over your contacts, you’re still wearing glasses so idk what’s the advantage of contacts. Save them for special occasions, nights out, etc.

      1. I turn 40 in a couple months.
I’m only wearing the computer glasses during work hours, so I get the convenience of contacts for working out, walking the dog, etc.

    2. Daily Bruder Moist Heat Eye Compress. The way it was explained to me, it basically “melts” the oils that are stuck in the oil producing glands and unclogs them so that they moisturize the eyeball the way they used to when we were younger.

    3. My optometrist recommended fish oil and not sleeping with an overhead fan on as it can dry out eyes.

    4. When my eyes get very dry, my eye doc suggested Systane ointment for night time use. It’s very thick so you really cannot see for a few hours after you apply it. For that reason, it is not something to use if you plan to read for a bit or might need to get up and do anything beyond stumbling to the bathroom. That said, it helps tremendously and is worth dealing with the greasy morning eyes.

He recommended drops from Refresh for day time use. Those are quite viscous but don’t interfere with my vision the way the night ointment does.

  4. Any recs for a 4-5 day solo trip to Edinburgh in late October? Two of my best friends are getting married there. Unfortunately I can’t take too much time off, but it will be my first time in Scotland and I’m open to going elsewhere once the wedding is over – maybe Glasgow?

I like art, history, and music. I like nature too and am an experienced traveller, but I’m a little spooked by the idea of hiking on my own especially with shorter daylight hours.
