Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Nothing's better than a lux basic, on sale. This lovely cashmere crewneck in a youthful blue is down to $212.50 at the Saks sale (was $425). Use code SPRGIFT9 at checkout to get a giftcard worth $25 (if you spend between $250 and $450) up to $450 (if you spend more than $3K). Ralph Lauren Black Label Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

Are you really suggesting that we pay $212 for a very basic-looking shirt? In this economy?
did you not read what these posts are all about?
you start out splurge and work your way down to inexpensive on Friday . . . and yes, I do think 212 is ok for a good quality basic that will last several years. Sometimes it is about getting good quality . . .
it’s only tuesday! it’s not supposed to be inexpensive, that’s how TPS works. “in this economy”… yeah, it’s tough and scary right now, but the partners at my firm just got their semiannual check on friday… they could buy this sweater, and for them it would be a good deal. lots of different people read this blog.
for me, mondays and tuesdays are sort of “wish book” items, mental notes of potentially good types of things to buy when i am feeling more financially confident. on wednesday i start flirting with the idea of purchase, and by thursday and friday i am ready to pounce on a great idea at a great price.
btw, that theory cardigan (black with yellow trim) went on sale at nordstrom.com yesterday for $70. and is it just me or has banana’s past few collections been mostly unappealing?
This is silly even for a splurge. Banana Republic sells almost the exact sweater, a bright cashmere boatneck with buttons, only it costs a third of the price, $70 (on sale). I got one & it’s fabuluous, high quality, and there are still a couple of sizes left.
newassociate:
Thanks for the tip on the theory cardigan! And yes, I agree with you about banana. I have been an avid banana shopper for years, I have still purchased a few items the last couple seasons, but it used to be that I wanted to buy nearly everything in the store.
banana republic cashmere is not quality cashmere. it’s cheaper for a reason.
