Gorgeous color!! Unfortunately most everything I have tried at Talbots looks beautiful in pictures and then really boxy in person.
Anonymous
precisely. i can’t buy stuff online from them anymore.
Jeanne
size down
Clerky
Even XS is too boxy on me. Maybe I could try XSP.
Lynette
Whoa. Love the color-I’m sold.
fresh jd
PSA: The colors on the Talbots website are totally deceptive! I ordered a green cardi and green dress and they were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SHADES. Much more muted than anything pictured online. And the same thing happened when I went to the store after checking stuff out online.
Just be warned please!
Jeanne
I’ve had the same experience with other online merchants, too. It’s very frustrating.
CSF
Oh that’s depressing. The color is what really makes me want to pull the trigger and buy it.
Anony
I’ve seen this color green in the stores and it is that saturated.
JAS
I’ve been meaning to pick up something just like this. The yellow one is nice too.
LawyrChk
Love the color. This would look fab with a navy blazer.
Anony
I agree. I just need a new navy blazer too.
Res Ipsa
Gorgeous color and length. This would also look good with tweed or subtly patterned pants.

Treadjack on leather care –
After several years, my black leather coat developed a white “film” around the collar, which I am assuming was from the lotion/SPF I use on my neck. That leather coat no longer fits, so I have just replaced it with a beautiful Cole Haan leather coat. How do I avoid ending up with the same “film” on the collar?
Thank you!
surrounded by lawyers
Did you clean the old one every once in a while with leather lotion? If not, I’d start with that. It should prevent build-up of anything icky. (It’s pretty cheap, available at most shoe or leather stores.)
Eponine
Clean it periodically (about 4 times per year) with a gentle leather cleaner, ideally the one sold by Cole Haan because if it somehow messes up your leather they’ll fix it for you. After cleaning, spray with a leather protector (again, ideally the one sold by Cole Haan). In between cleanings, when you notice a film or stain developing, just wipe it with a damp, soft rag.
Anon
Are you sure it’s a film and not the color wearing away? I don’t know what to do about the latter — maybe take it to a leather repair shop and see what they can do.
Louise
If the color is wearing away, a good cobbler can re-dye it. Or, check with Cole Haan as suggested above to get their recommendation.
You might also consider buying a couple of silk scarves to wear with the coat to protect the neckline. I keep a scarf tucked in the pocket of several of my jackets because I hate anything even the slightest bit rough or itchy on my neck and silk softens everything up nicely.
SS
Thank you all, online Cole Haan had leather cleaner and protector (only $4.50 each) and I will buy those. I just wish they had them in the store I normally visit.

does anyone have this already? is it too boxy? too long?
TAH
I have it. It’s not boxy on me at all (I wear an XL). It’s also not as long on me as it appears in the picture; it hits me at the top of the hip area.

Love this and the colors available are great. If your order is over $125 use 25off as promotion code and they take $25 off your order. I love a bargain.

Has anyone seen this in person and know how thick this is? I’m a little leery of the material, which I could see being a clingy, thin mess.
dm58
Yes, can anyone speak to the fit, material, quality?
I adore this and want to purchase it SO badly . . . is it bad to purchase in all nine colours? Nah, I seriously only want 6 of the 9 colours . . . that isn’t bad, right???
dm58
warning – the item is marked final sale! Without trying it on, I cannot order.
deep sigh.
LawyrChk
I own a very similar shirt from Talbots that is short-sleeved. Quality is excellent. Material is fairly thin but not sheer; for me, ordering a size down from my usual size fit perfectly (XS instead of S like I’d order at BR or AT). The yellow is beautiful.
Jeanne
I’m not a fan of rayon/nylon sweaters. Even if they look good when they’re new, they tend to look ratty very quickly. Plus, I don’t find them to be particularly comfortable.
MJ
I have this sweater in Turtleneck. I liked the material so much that I bought four of them (on sale) a few weeks ago. It is a little clingy, but I found it to be true to size–I am a 12 and got a large and they fit great. No, I wouldn’t wear it with lacy undergarments, but otherwise fine.
I like the material too. It’s thin but warm, great for winter.
Eponine
I’m a little suspicious of an item that is on final sale and is available in every size and color. It makes me suspect that people didn’t really like the product and it didn’t sell well.
Anonymous
This.
Curious
What is the point of these types of replies? I honestly don’t understand.
surrounded by lawyers
It just means “I agree” or “I would have said the same thing.”
sf
Thanks for asking that! I’ve been wondering for weeks!
Anony
I’m pretty sure part of it is that this item is from before their new marketing plan so a lot of items got pulled early to make way for the new items.
Chicago S
The XS and S are only in a few colors like the green.
Eponine
Has anyone else noticed that this model works for a ton of different stores? I always notice her on BR, Talbots, I think AT too.
Legally Brunette
Yes, I see her on BR’s site all the time. Good eye!
divaliscious11
Good thing…she’s working!
Lawgirl
Cute, but neckline doesn’t work for me…
LA Lawyer
interesting, I think the neckline is fabulous and very flattering!
MelD
This sweater looks a little bit too long to be flattering except with a skinny pant/jean. It looks like it would hit right at the widest part of the hip.
ERP
This sweater is fine. Nothing to rave about. It makes me want to put something out there that I’ve been thinking about:
1. I wish that Bargain Fridays and Splurge Mondays were switched around. Most people get paid on Fridays and it would be a great time to splurge…Whereas Mondays you are getting back into the grind and it seems to me like a bargain suggestion is more appropriate/timely.
2. I also wish that the bargain suggestion would be more creative. For instance, do not just post a t-shirt (e.g. from AT Loft) or a simple sweater that doesn’t cost that much. Are those really bargains? But suggest a great professional dress or suit or shoes that just went on sale and is a REAL bargain. I feel like a “bargain” is when you feel like you are getting away with something…”Did the sales girl really mean to mark this down to $XX.00?” That would be more fun that simple sweaters and t-shirts!
I love Corporette. Not complaints, just suggestions.
Kaye
I suspect that real bargains are much harder to find :)
AIMS
I think everyone’s idea of a bargain differs, too. For example, I purchased a gorgeous, timeless wool/cashmere dress today from Brooks Brothers just now marked down to $126, from $300 (on sale for %149, less an extra 15% off) and I think I got an awesome bargain but I am sure some people would say otherwise.
But I do agree that bargain Friday should be a little more creative than either a) a cheap something from Target or Old Navy or b) a really boring basic that’s marked down a bit somewhere mid range. Both of those are fine every now & then, but it seems to be the constant, which is a bit dull. On the contrary, Splurge Monday is often about really unique pieces, whereas I think to a lot of people a splurge is much more worth the investment when it’s a more classic, timeless something (e.g., perfect camel blazer).
Anyway, also not complaining, just throwing my thoughts out there. I know it’s hard to find bargains that are available in a variety of sizes!
And, as a PSA — Brooks Brothers has 15% off everything all weekend, 25 % if you pay with BB card. I bought a few things — lots of great button downs, etc., available!
Anonymous
How is the sizing on that dress?
AIMS
Dunno, just ordered it. The reviews say true to size. Available in 2,4, 12, 14, 16.

Hope it works out!!!
jcb
Personally, I like the current set-up of Splurge Mondays (need something exciting on Monday) and Bargain Fridays (tired out by the end of the week). And, I like that the splurges are unique pieces – don’t need any help finding a splurgey pair of classic black pumps. I’d much rather find a great signature piece. To each her own, I guess.
S
Agree. And I like that the bargain Fridays are actually bargain items i.e. often below $30 or so. They are things that I can buy without a second thought.
Parisienne
I wonder what the proportions of rayon to nylon are in this seamless sweater? The more rayon, the more comfort.
Preggo Angie
Quick styling question: I’m pregnant, and have a few dresses that I rotate in for work. Now that the weather is chillier, I would like to wear tights with the dresses. Here’s my question – I have a brown dress, with cream and black accents. Can I get away with wearing brown tights with it, even if the browns are different colors? I can’t find a pair of tights that matches the shade perfectly. I don’t think black tights would work, as the black accent is up at the top of the dress. I realize pregnant women have a little more leeway, but I still want to *try* to look put together.
Thanks!
ERP
Preggo, I haven’t seen the dress but based upon your description, I would definitely put black tights with it. There is a hint of black in your dress and that is enough. I would also pair it with black shoes and black accessories (e.g. earings / purse / coat / cardigan / hair clip. not necessarily all at once of course!). The fact that your brown tights do not match the brown in the dress further supports my black tights recommendation. Congrats on your baby!!
Preggo Angie
Thanks – I was afraid of a symphony of mismatched browns on the lower half of my body. I think if I pair the dress with a black sweater it will all pull together.
jcb
I think different browns can be fine too, so long as it looks intentional. I actually prefer to have browns that “go” rather than browns that are too matchy. A lighter shade of brown in a similar hue could look nice.
Kaye
Agreed – I would definitely not match the browns. Now a “contrasting” brown – one that doesn’t look like any on the dress, but perhaps is darker or ligher – might look good, but it depends and needs to be seen first.
Cubicle Chic
What a delicious green! I hadn’t heard of seemless sweaters before, but it looks pretty and comfortable. Worth trying.

Just want to congratulate everyone on the last business day of the billable year (for many firmst, at least)!

What does this mean?

If you don’t know, thank your lucky stars.

:)
Lucky stars aside, can you still clue me in so I’m not ignorant?
Eponine
Most firms have a requirement that you bill around 2000 hours per year. The year begins and ends on a fixed date, generally corresponding to the firm’s fiscal year rather than the calendar year. For many firms, the year is November 1 – October 31.
cbackson
It’s not for us, sigh. December 31.

me too. but it’s still coming soon! almost there…

March 31 here. Only a little more than halfway through…

Ours was September 30. But it WAS a great feeling (if you made hours, that is).

Today is our last business day of the billable year (1800 requirement). The year isn’t over yet though… not until Monday morning! Bill it or bust ladies!

Threadjack alert:
Do you any of you ladies have recommendations for affordable shampoo and conditioner for long, thick, dry, and somewhat frizzy hair? I have been using a combination of Kerastase shampoo and Bumble & Bumble conditioner for ages (i.e., I don’t remember what I used to use before this), which leaves my hair very soft but is outrageously expensive. I can no longer justify the outlay and am looking for good alternatives. Any suggestions?
Anonymous
I like the Garnier Fructis ones for frizzy/unmanageable hair.
Eponine
Seconded. I just switched to Garnier Fructis’ Triple Moisture and I love it.
JAS
I always liked the John Frieda brilliant brunette stuff. Can’t speak for the blonde or red, but they probably would be good too. Kept my hair very soft and shiny and smooth. Even that’s a little out of my range right now nfortunately, but the herbal essences “long term relationship” stuff works pretty well.
I also use a pantene deep conditioning mask once a week; it comes in a plastic jar from the drugstore.
Also – not shampoo, but I’ve noticed that if I take vitamin E regularly, my hair is much smoother and shinier.
AIMS
I really like Pantene.
Havent had much luck w/John Frieda b/c I have thick hair & I think it works best on thinner strands, but Pantene is always a something that’s worked for me.
Tres Seme Vitamin E conditioner has also done a great job.
Kaye
I have long, average thickness, a bit frizzy hair. I’ve been using Pantene for years. Shampoo + conditioner or Shampoo + their deep conditioning treatment which works really well (at least did the last time I tried, it’s probably been 2 years – lately I’ve just stuck with the conditioner). Also, when I hair gets really long their detangling spray really helps.
argie
I don’t know about shampoo, but I love the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask as a couple times a week conditioner. Iit comes in a 6 oz. jar and runs about $10-$12 bucks. And you can find it at Target.
It solved my static problem with my long (mid-back) hair about 4 winters ago.

I have also had good results with the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Conditioner — no static, looks like I have straightened my hair, basically fixes everything.

I have had good experience with the Suave Professional lines. I use the Matrix rip-off (orange bottle) and love it. My hair is long, thick and kind of frizzy but not particularly dry, FWIW.
anon
I buy matrix from ULTA for around $19/bottle (for ~36 oz.) and it’s great for curly hair (I think I get the moisturizing conditioner for dry or damaged hair).
naijamodel
I have long dredlocks and I use the Suave Humectant conditioner. It really is almost as good as Nexxus Humectress – which is about $12 more for the equivalent size.
My hair is really dry and curly.
Anon131
Thanks all for the recs! I have a list of possibilities to test out.
Anonymous Poser
My hair is frizzy and dry: I just got it cut short so I won’t have to spend so much time dealing with it. :-)
That said, I’ve read that sulfates, which are in most shampoos, are very drying for your hair. Trader Joe’s has a non-sulfate shampoo that works well so far for me, and Loreal just came out with a non-sulfate line (EverStrong) of shampoos w/ “matching” conditioners.
Mella
Visit lush.com, click through the navigations to see if there’s a shop near you, and if there is, try the Karma Komba shampoo bar. Yes, it’s about ten bucks a bar but for me a bar lasts about nine months (I don’t wash my hair every day. It’s thick and wavy/curly/potentially frizzy that I air dry and flatiron once a week).
If you don’t have a Lush by you or it’s too expensive, I second the Neutrogena Triple Moisture. Karma Komba is the only thing that wholly detangles my hair in the shower while I’m using it though.
Lyssa
I’m really happy with Tres Seme (sp?). Big containers for about 3.50 at Wal-Mart, a lot of different types for different hair types.
Parisienne
I think all browns go together and harmonize. You can always mix your browns. Think nature and earth tones – nothing clashes.

I’d break it up with a nude stocking if you’re wearing a skirt. Otherwise I end up looking like a chocolate mess.

I could really use some advice!! I just recently started my first job out of law school as a fellow at a nonprofit. (which basically means that my salary is paid by my law school to fund a project that I created at this nonprofit firm). The job is short term, 1-1.5 years at most (they have pretty much made it clear that they cannot afford to hire me on after my funding is gone). My issue is that I am really struggling to balance my family and work life. I live pretty far away from my office (around 1.5 hours each way) and I get home so late that I barely can throw together a quick dinner and eat with my daughter and husband before I have to put her to bed. This really long commute and difficult schedule has left me very depressed about missing out so much on her life. I no longer help her with her homework, take her to sports, walk her home from school, or spend time cooking dinner while she tells me about her day at school. The other day I took half a day off because I couldn’t stand my depression anymore. That one afternoon with my daughter made the whole week feel so much more manageable. I feel like if I just had one or two more evenings a week home at a decent hour I could manage much better.
My question is this, would it be unwise or unreasonable for me to ask my boss if I could come in an hour earlier M-Th and use those extra 4 hours to leave 2 hours earlier on wed and Friday so that I can get home at a regular hour? I work with 5 female attorneys, most of whom are mothers with grown kids so I am not worried about seeming too “feminine” and they all seem sympathetic about my long commute. I am not technically an “hourly” employee so I don’t know if I can switch around hours but then again, I am also not a regular salaried employee because I am only here on a temporary project. If this seems like a bad idea does anyone else have any ideas on how to handle this? (besides “suck it up?” :))
Liz
The color IS gorgeous, but I wish the neckline were a little lower.
TAH
I’m wearing this sweater (in the green) right now. I love it! It really is that green in person.
