Suit of the Week

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

We’re loving the fit, comfort, and summer breath-ability for this week’s suit, from Brooks Brothers. We wish it came in black as well as the powder blue, but we still think the powder blue is a classic, wearable color for a casual day at the office leading into an outdoorsy summer event. We’d wear a white tee-shirt or blouse beneath it, accessorize with good jewelry, and wear businesslike leather pumps and a structured bag. The jacket (Supima® Cotton Oxford Cropped Jacket) is $248, and the pants (Supima® Cotton Oxford Pants) are $148.

Wednesday’s TPS Report: ECCO’s Gisborne T-Strap Pump

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

ECCO’s Gisborne T-Strap PumpWe’re familiar with ECCO as a comfort brand, but we were not aware that their more “fashionable” line had actually gotten, well, fashionable.  We love the vintage and classy look of these T-straps — as much as we love the walkable heel height, the closed toe, and the pleated leather.  Gorgeous!  Available at Endless.com for $150.   ECCO Women’s Gisborne T-Strap Pump

Splurge Tuesday’s TPS Report: Bamford’s Wool-Blend Paneled Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Bamford’s Wool-Blend Paneled DressWe love, love, love navy and black when worn together in a planned way, and today’s suggested splurge is no exception. We love the paneled layers of navy silk and black wool, as well as the gentle slope of the round neck, and the eminently ladylike short sleeves and knee-length skirt. We’d wear it with pearls or another 18″-22″ necklace, and perhaps a brooch as well. Available at Net-a-Porter for $2,295. Bamford Wool-blend paneled dress

Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Banana Republic’s Short-Sleeve Seamless V-Neck

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Banana Republic’s Short-Sleeve Seamless V-NeckGood basics are hard to find — so when they go on sale, it’s even better. Through May 25, Banana Republic is having an online-only Memorial Day sale, marking down lots of simple tees and camisoles, all available in white, black, brown, and navy. Our favorite is this short-sleeve seamless tee, pictured here in “true indigo” — we’d wear it beneath a suit, or with trousers and a blazer, or perhaps a pencil skirt and a cardigan. Was $30, now $20. Women: Short-sleeve seamless v-neck tee – True indigo

Thursday’s TPS Report: White House|Black Market’s Colorblocked Day Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

27Sigh… we are seriously loving this dress from White House|Black Market. The silhouette reminds us of much more expensive dresses — David Meister and Black Halo on one end, Rouland Mouret on another — yet it’s somehow much more ladylike and less sexy than any of those designers. Gorgeous, gorgeous. And it’s marked from $148 to $79 — sold, American. Colorblocked Day Dress
